lantern2745 got a reaction from Sean in Welcome to Ask an Advisor
Greetings Imperial Cadets!  If you are reading this, you have begun or will soon begin constructing one (or more) of the many IOC costumes within the 501st Legion.
The IOC Command Staff, and IOC Advisors are here to help you to be successful in this proccess.
To that end, this area will be for you, Cadet, to ask questions specific to your costume build, and have them answered by an Advisor.
Additionally, if you decide you would like to have one on one mentoring by an Advisor, this section will be here for you to make that request.

One question you may already have is, "What's an Advisor?".
An Advisor is a 501st member with an approved IOC costume appointed by IOC Command Staff to assist new members.

If you are more comfortable asking questions in a one to one setting, reply in the "Requesting an Advisor" section HERE using the format at the start of that thread.
Upon seeing your request, an Advisor will volunteer to work closely with you as you progress through your build.
Be aware that it may take a day or two for you to be paired with the right Advisor.

    As a note - When asking a question please do two things;
Make the title to your thread as short, yet detailed as you can.  Don't just title it, "Question" or "Does Anyone Know...".  If it's regarding boots, you could title it, "Will these boots work?" or "How do you care for boots?". Scan the titles of (or preferably read entire) threads that have come before you.  If someone is having or has had the same issue, you may save time (yours, ours, everyone's) by reading before posting.
Thank you for reading, and we look forward to helping you join the Imperial Officer Corps!

lantern2745 got a reaction from Amadeus98 in New To The Legion CRLs
    Hello Officer uniform makers!
We thought it would be good to have a quick primer on how to go about creating a NTTL CRL.

First, decide what you're trying to accomplish.
Is it a completely new, never done in the 501st costume?  That's NTTL. Is it an officer that wears an existing IOC/501st costume, but maybe with a funny hat?  That's probably not NTTL.
For completely New to the Legion costumes, you need to consider a few things.
Is the character a "Bad Guy"?  That's the easiest qualifier, though that isn't a hard set rule.  See Bith Musicians. Is the character portrayed by a human?  For example, IG-88, or IG-11 wouldn't qualify as they were droids without people in them.  And before you ask, Gonk droids and R2 units don't count either.
Once you decide what you're going for, and have a good idea if it will be allowed, you need to think about which Detachment it would fall under.  Take a look through the existing Detachment CRL Lists to see which one will be best suited to helping you in the process.

Then you'll want to make a forums account there, introduce yourself and see if anyone has started on the same path as you.  You'd be surprised to see how many times someone will start their research and then have life get in the way.  Why not use that info (if it's there)?  It also helps to ask the staff what they think.  They might not see your project as a good fit, and will almost always suggest where they think it (and thus you) would be better served.

So now you have your character.  You feel confident it will work.  You have an idea where to post your project.  What next?
References.  Photos from the source.  Behind the scenes. Deleted scenes.  Art books.  Artist sketches.  Trading cards. You name it, you're gonna need it, and it needs to be official.  Fan art doesn't count.
And keep in mind, we aren't just looked at from the front.  You need all angles.  Front, sides, back.
When you think you have enough, keep looking.  You want this air tight, locked down from the get go.

This Legion link is the last word on the issue, because the post you're reading isn't all encompassing.
CRL Guide  Read it.  Know it.  You will be tested.

Scared yet? Don't be.  Creating a NTTL is the hardest, most rewarding thing we do as costumers in the 501st.  Not everyone can do it.  In fact very few do.  But don't be discouraged.  The IOC staff is here to help!  We want you to succeed!!

I can't speak for any LMO administrations having not served on one.
I can speak for previous IOC administrations having been your predecessor, and working with my predecessor and his.
Where has there been resistance to CRLs for women?
The CRL models could certainly be updated to feature a more diverse array of members, but in my time and in my various roles I was never privy to specific CRLs for women or feminine presenting members being denied for that reason alone.
Seeing as you brought it up here, I'd appreciate elaboration on it here.

    Hello IOC.
I was contacted today and LFL have finally come back to us with info on the Sith Eternal.  The back of the tunic is a straight cut, not pleated, and there are two vertical seams on the back all the way down to the bottom edge of the tunic similar to the FOSB.

    Hello everyone.
I’m Shaun and I’ve been fairly active here at the IOC for a while now so I’ve probably interacted with many of you already.
I’ll be Daisy’s 2nd here as reps from the LMO team for this term.
My biggest focus is growing the Legion. More costumes and more people wearing them! More Star Wars is good Star Wars!

Hello everyone, I’m Daisy from the Dutch Garrison and together with Shaun I have been assigned as your LMO team for this term.

    About Me:
My name is Daisy van Rijn, and this is my first term as a 501st  Legion Membership Officer. I’ve been in the Underworld Detachment Command for the three previous terms. I have six approved 501st costumes, four in the Rebel Legion and I have three unfinished 501st costumes that are waiting for the right weather or parts. I have been sewing since I was 19 and love sharing that acquired knowledge with others.

    What is an LMO?
The Legion Membership Team is responsible for reviewing and processing applications for membership, and maintaining and updating member information in the Legion database. The Legion Membership Officers drives costume policies, including acceptable costume types for membership and setting standards for costume submissions, and are the final arbiter of member costume issues and approvals. The Legion Membership Officer supervises and advises Detachments, Garrison Membership Liaisons, and Garrison Web Liaisons on any questions or issues they may have with member’s costumes. Have a question about membership these are the folks to talk to!

There are LMOs you can contact at any time at Legion Officers however Shaun and I are the ones who are assigned to the Imperial Officer Corps this term.

We will be using this thread to finalize the CRL for Imperial Military Officer (Rebels).

Also referred to as "Rebels Line Officer" and "Rebels Style Officer" on the forum, we are going to follow the current naming convention and refer to this as "Imperial Military Officer (Rebels)". This should also give us the flexibility to expand on the CRL if we'd like in the future. We will leverage existing verbiage from other CRLs where possible.

We will use this post as the main listing, and tackle each part one by one. (Green = complete, Yellow = WIP, and Red = yet to be finalized):

Hair and appearance Hat, Olive, Rebels-Style Tunic, Olive Rank Bar Code Cylinders Belt Jodhpur Trousers Officer Boots Gloves (Optional) Belt boxes (Optional) Colored contact lenses (Optional) Holster (Optional) Blaster (Optional)
Also linking here to a few previous threads and useful info - we are consolidating them here, and will continue the conversation / discussion on THIS thread.

------------FINALIZED TEXT GOES BELOW THIS LINE------------
    Description: Imperial Military Officer (Rebels)
    Prefix: ID
    Detachment: Imperial Officer Corps
    Context: Star Wars: Rebels
    TBD
    Special Notes:
    TBD --------------------------------------------
    Hair and appearance
Applicants may style hair, facial hair, alter eye color, or use makeup, to emulate any character that wears this costume, provided the example is from a licensed LFL source. When not emulating a specific character’s appearance, applicants are encouraged, but not required, to adhere to conservative hair stylings and grooming of a military nature.
    Hat, Olive, Rebels-Style
Hat is OPTIONAL but only if a specific referenced licensed character’s typical uniform configuration is copied in full, and does not typically include a hat. Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable. Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4 inches (101.6 mm) tall. Front and rear “flaps” overlap on the sides, with the back flap over the front, and are about 4 inches (101.6 mm) high. Front bill extends 3 inches down; there are no concentric stitches. Imperial Code Disk is positioned in the center of the front vertical "flap.” Code Disk exactly matches Rebels style disk
    Tunic, Olive
Fabric is a medium weight Olive/Field grey colored suiting material matching the trousers (and hat, if present). Tunic is double-breasted with a left over right closure on the tapered yoke. Yoke comes up across the shoulder to the top shoulder seam. The standing collar has square corners, is between 1.25" (31.8 mm) to 2" tall, and closes snugly. The wearer's neck must not be visible between the closed collar edges. A modesty panel behind the collar closure is recommended to help with this, but is not required. Collar edges are closed together in front with two eye hooks. There are code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket, from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole. A central seam runs down the back of the tunic, with no princess seams. Tunic has long sleeves which are without decoration, cuffs or buttons. Tunic is constructed with no top-stitching (stitches visible on the exterior surface of fabric). Fasteners on the uniform should not be visible. Uniform is to be pressed and free of a wrinkled appearance.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Sleeve may contain one seam on the inner arm.
      Rank Bar
Worn on the left side of the tunic over the heart, aligned with the code cylinder pocket. Rank consists of same-sized colored plastic tiles mounted on metal or metal looking bar. Length and height are determined by chosen rank. Each bar is approximately 1" (25.4 mm) height.
Rank bar corners are slightly rounded.
Rank tiles are translucent, rectangular, positioned side by side in a vertical orientation, and evenly spaced. Color, quantity, and combinations of the tiles/bars are determined by rank, and are appropriate to uniform type/color as supported by licensed reference.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
For rank bars with two rows, the rank bar is one strip with four rounded corners NOT two separate bars as with OT rank bars; tiles are opaque. Chosen rank to match a specific officer seen onscreen or other licensed media.
    Code Cylinders
Between 1 to 4 Code Cylinders per costume may be worn.
No more than 2 code cylinders per pocket.
Modified Silver "chalk holder" tube with a short clip and blue top. Dosimeter Style: True Dosimeter with correct clip and Blue top. Clip is silver in color.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Must be Rebels style code cylinder with correct Rebels style clip and blue caps.   Belt
The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material. Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width no more than approximately 3" (76.2 mm) wide. There are no loops on the belt. A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) to the left of the buckle, snap can be raised to a semi conical shape. The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material. Buckle has a raised metal code disk. Code Disk exactly matches Rebels style disk

    Jodhpur Trousers
Fabric is a medium weight suiting material exactly matching the tunic. Trousers are flared riding breeches, with semi-stiff flares to the hip/thigh area. Breeches are worn with boots. Breeches are neatly pressed or ironed without creases. Pockets are acceptable, although must not be visible with the tunic on.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The flares on the jodhpurs mimic the shape of Rebels officer’s flares

Changes approved and wiki has been updated.  I suspect they'll be live shortly.

The clock starts now, on the old style being grandfathered out.  The next administration can make the final call.  (if that's us, I'd say somewhere between 3-6 months, so we'll see)

Meanwhile, both styles are approvable.   (If you're starting now, though, I would definitely not spend money on anything other than the more accurate newer style!)

There really was no guesswork and no messy decisions, there.  I'm not sure why you keep bringing the Solo Navy Trooper back in.  I personally took screenshots FROM THE ACTUAL MOVIE that showed it more than clearly enough, especially in combinations with what we know from other sources, including the actual prop makers from the movie.  They're posted right in the thread.  Why is this one so troublesome for you?
