Post Re: Uniform Mods for women
Yep :) That one does look good, waist seam, that front line will be straight thus easily adapted to a fold in the fabric to make the overlap and the seams go to the shoulders :) Excellent find :)

Post Re: Uniform Mods for women
hi everyone!!!
just want to put in here the patterns i'm using, cause i noticed i had to make very few mods with these 2.

i noticed there are 2 different kind of princess seam that can run in the back. i tried to find the thread with the picture of one of them that i saw around here, but i couldn't find it! sorry.
but i noticed that the seam can come out of the shoulders and run down the back [this would be exactly the same kind of seam that runs in front. ]
and then there the other one, that comes of the arm hole, and whould match one of the sleeves seam!

as far as i understood both of them are accepted! please correct me if i'm mistaken.

so... with these 2 patterns you have both options
one is butterick 4929

and the other one is vogue 7978

i'm very new to the sewing world but i think both vogue and butterick patterns are actually the same company, which is pretty cool cause i was able to mix and mach the patterns with no problem at all.

the vogue pattern has the perfect princess seam for the front of the jacket, and very easy to add the pockets on the side front, and ziper on the front. need just very few mods [the front comes with a few extra inches for the buttons, but very easyto reduce that just enough for the ziper.]
and if you place the front on the fold [on the fabric] you get it perfectly to make the "bib" flap.

this pattern also has the sleeve with 2 seams as the costume calls for.

the butterick pattern has the perfect back princess seam. exactly like the picture i've seen around here, and the civil war pattern that you guys use.

matching the back of one pattern to the front of the other was very easy. you will just have to adjust the length...
and believe it or not the sleeves seem to fit perfectly too.
i havent sewed the sleeves on my mock up yet but i pinned them last night and and was able to match one of the seams to the princess seam on the back.
i'm a bit afraid of the sleeves hahahahaha
but i'l work on them tonight!

anyways... just wanted to put this on this topic too because... like... =] i'm 5'2" 11Olbs!!!! and ithink working with the civil war pattern [for men] would really have been more trouble to make it my size then anything else. hahaha
so i hope this helps the women officers to be out there!

I tried to find a picture for you to no avail. I thought I had one. I think we will have to wait on someone like Kyle.

The Butterick pattern looks good, the collar looks like it's already the right height, and it includes the waistline seam.

I think you're on to a winning combination there :)

this looks promising as well. Especially for someone who has NO formal sewing training what so ever. Drafting out seam lines and adding things are a steep learning curve for me. Either I make it up completely from scratch or I follow a pattern.

Great thread, wish I'd discovered it while I was working on mine. I went with the McCall's M5526 my husband found for me, and made alterations as needed (I'm a little newer to using patterns, my Asajj was just measured and designed as I went).

I was approved a few days ago as a Standard Black Imperial Officer. Excited to see others progress as it comes. :)

Edited for spelling

aside from the collar what alterations to this pattern did you need to do. I ask since chances are this will be the pattern I use for my uniform when I eventually get to it. The husband is up first and I'll use the civil war costume for that.

And do you have pictures of your officer outfit? I'd love to see what you did.

I'm guessing that last part was directed at me, if not, my bad. I made the collar a little to big at first, moved it down, and am pretty happy with it. I just wanted to make sure that it met cleanly in the middle. My husband sewed in a modesty panel and some hook and eye catches to keep it securely latched.

I have a bunch of pictures, this one was my favorite:

We're finishing up a holster and a Merr Sonn 5 blaster and will probably take some more once I have those.

I will be working on a female officer with a friend of mine very soon. Thank you so much for the valuable information on fitting the tunic for women. My friend is VERY busty and curvy, (I am less so) so these suggestions will be invaluable when it comes to fitting the top for her.
