 Ep III Officer Progress
I decided to finally start sewing this and try to have it done before Comic-con in San Diego last week. Big mistake. I need to re-do the tunic as it needs a lot more tailoring, but I did manage to FINALLY get the hat into a shape that looks correct: This is a very rough prototype but I'm going to take it apart and use the pieces to draft a pattern.

Hey CmdrGrey,
Nice start, looks like you're heading in the right direction! Though there are lots of corrections still to do. What fabric will you work in? Wool gabardine? Cotton twill? Will you add the biased tape to the "flaps"? Any pictures of the jacket? Keep up the good work.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
The fabric I'm using is a poly-blend gabardine finish suiting fabric. The color, as shown in the cap images, is almost spot on.
I'm still undecided on the bias tape around the edges. It was hard to tell from the "Dressing a Galaxy" pictures. Right now the biggest challenge was the actual creation of the cap pattern because that back seam was driving several of us nuts. Once I got a good hi-def image of the back of the cap, I had the problem solved. And what is ironic is that I used my Endor soft helmet pattern to get the back part correct.
For the tunic I actually appliqued the front, curved plaquet to get the thickness correct, but I need to re-do it as the bottom curve isn't quite rounded enough.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
Other than making this uniform for event appearances, you might want to check with the Rebel Legion regarding construction if it were ever to be used for membership application. They have adopted a costume standard based on the animated series that requires the "S" shape on the front to actually be a seamed edge rather than a piping over a normal full front panel. It certainly complicates the construction and makes the half length left covering panel lay oddly over the full right side underneath panel. In fact, now that Clones are officially part of the RL, are we even suppose to have them listed as part of the I.O.C. forum? Well, good luck. You shouldn't have any trouble whichever manner you build this kit as long as it is just for general use.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
I've been working on this since Ep 3 came out 2005. I just haven't gotten to actually making the prototype until this year. Most of it was research and trying to figure out that S-curve. I never got this done in time for Comic-Con, but hopefully next year. Now I can completely re-do the front plaquet.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
Last night at the Star Wars in Concert event I was able to get my nose practically on this costume as it was on display. Much closer than when I was a FIDM. The front S-curve plaquet is appliqued on, NOT seamed. So I was correct in my prototype. I'll be sure to take detailed pictures when I re-do my prototype. I'm always happy when I guess something correctly. I was even able to take a close look at the Plo Koon outfit and my reverse engineering from photos was almost an exact match.

Hey CmdrGrey,
Did you get pictures of any of this? Nothing beats a good picture for "reverse engineering"! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
....yesterday afternoon I decided to dig out this project & try again. I worked out an approximate paper pattern for what I thought the center of the hat should be, then I sewed it together & took it apart a bunch of times until it finally made this shape. This morning I sewed the side pieces and the visor onto the hat. Right now it is not lined, but this is finally starting to sort of look like what it is supposed to look like.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
Pictures can be found in this thread: http://www.imperialofficer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=95I've been fortunate to get nose-to-nose with this costume at the Star Wars in Concert series. That helped a lot with the different seams on this puppy. Your hat is looking good, Kathy. I have no hat-making skills so I'm hoping you will create the definitive pattern. I just finished prototype #2, but the sides need to be higher; I'll fix it after San Diego Comic-con this week. After 5 years of research I FINALLY finished my first attempt. I'm wearing it for the 501st photo on Saturday. Pants Tunic (still needs hemming/fasteners) Unfortunately the curved plaquet doesn't show well in the picture.

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
I'm glad to see the renewed interest in the prequel officer. Looks like TKvanB has an excellent construction of the cap! Keep up the good work troopers!

 Re: Ep III Officer Progress
I wore it to the 501st photo at San Diego Comic-con. To anyone's knowledge this is the first one done in the Legion. And no wonder, it was a pain to work on; but now that the hard part is done, people can make changes/upgrades and improve on the original effort. I'll be submitting it after I do version #3 of the hat.
