  1. Oh man, so I had to do a pretty big deep dive to try and figure out what I used for the CRL a zillion years ago, but i was actually successful!!

The fabric I used was originally from the now defunct fabric.com, and was Kaufman Bi Stretch Gabardine in "charcoal"
The manufacturer seems to still be around, and the fabric is listed on their website, but i didn't see a way to order it.
    https://www.robertkaufman.com/fabrics/bistretch_gabardine/B065-1071/

I found one site that was selling it, but i've personally never ordered from them before so I cannot vouch for them, and one person selling some yardage on etsy. There is also someone selling 55 yards of it on ebay for $350 if you know a lot of people who also want first order uniforms lol

I can't say with 100% certainty that this is the same fabric, but it looks EXTREMELY close from the pictures and the screenshots from my really old build thread

I will also throw out there that the fabric is pretty lightweight, so it will need some decent interfacing if this is what you go with.
    Good luck!!

  2. Hiya!
Individual paint shades are going to be up to your GML, but in my personal opinion you could use the 587 as a base, and then B5 for contour and shading! Blending them together would also be an option to get the 587 a bit darker, but I'll be honest I haven't worked with aquacolor before so I'm not sure how feasible that is.

If you can get ahold of it, EBA's Endura is my go to for Thrawn/Chiss in general. It's liquid, so you can mix colors together to get your desired shade, and then you can contour with a matte blue powder. It's also alcohol based, so after it's sealed, it's not going ANYWHERE, which is a bonus with that white collar.

  3. The CRL team discussed this a while back, since I also have a fondness for Vanto.

The uniform from the later issues of the comic didn't have enough differences to warrant a new crl, however the earlier issues depicted him in a green tunic with an ISB style closure at the top and no seams in the back. This could likely be a new CRL, however it would likely be a generic as well, since several officers are seen wearing that style of uniform in the comics.

Finding another human being to take a photo for us on Friday won't be hard to do, with most of the detachments still doing their stuff on Friday I'm sure someone reliable will be there with a camera that can snap photos and get them back to us.

I know a few people, I can reach out if needed!!

  5. In my opinion, if we have clear and consistent references, the CRL should reflect this. The rank bar being flipped wasn't a one time, one issue thing, it appeared as blue over red across several issues and assorted licensed material.

For this reason, I highly doubt it was a coloring error.

Additionally, it harms literally no one to add a line allowing for members portraying Ysanne to wear their rank bar in either direction, as is shown in the comics.

But overall, by ignoring certain references, it just shows to outsiders that some references are more valid than others, and this is something I am not okay with.

The CRL team has been discussing it though, I can assure you guys of that. We've had to agree to disagree on a few points lol. I'm hoping we'll have an answer and the reasoning soon!!

Once  I get my Governor Pryce patch. I plan on finishing my Pryce coat. Just need to find a rank patch for her. Anyone know where I can get one?

Jacket is in Grey as we Pryce girls call our selves the Grey Ladies. Working on a Grey Lady patch next.

I recall someone selling rank patches here a while back, but I'd have to look for them

If anything, it should be pretty easy to commission a custom one! I know Etsy has a good handful of people that do custom patches

  7. I'm pointedly ignoring Things I Should Be Doing right now to try and make a new vest.
Officer themed, as my other is mostly Kylo, and I barely wear him now.

I've got a small handful of things picked out so far, but there's still a lot of space left.

    Show me yours!!
    I need inspiration!!
(Also if you have patches and want to trade, I also have patches and want to trade)

  8. Hey there!
I wanted to toss in another contender that I know several Thrawn/Alien costumers like to use.

    Alcohol activated face paint!

This can be either airbrushed or sponged on, depending on your skill level, and it's liquid, so colors can be mixed if the available color isn't satisfactory. I usually will add a teeny bit of dark blue to their lighter blue as a base, then tint it darker for the base shading before I contour with powder.

It's honestly incredible how well it stays on. You need their special remover to get it off your face, and I've even gone swimming in it before and it doesn't budge.

I usually get mine from European Body Art, and they also offer a water based option as well

I have the same problem on my new cosplaysky / skycostume Line Officer tunic.  Mine doesn't appear to be as big of a problem as it appears in this thread, but for costume requirements, how tight does the collar really need to be?

The CRL just states that it needs to fit 'snugly', so my general assumption is pretty flush against your neck. You should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar.

But really, this would be something that would be up to the discretion of your gml

I just took it seven different tailors two of them said that it was possible. Out of the two one of them said that I would be very expensive and it would require a lot of work and the dismantling the tunic. The other said they would charge $45  but Idk how well of a job that would be. Mean while the other 5 said it was impossible or that they wanted to add a seam in the back. Also most of them werent giving me any prices except one. Is that normal for them to do? I contacted cosplay sky through amazon under the item was damage or defective and they said that all their collars are fixed and That a tailor could fix it. Granted I Amazon doesn’t give u the option to make custom measurements, but I bought my ISB tunic from there and had no problems at all the collar was just right.  I’m sorry but I’m not going to send way more money to get something fixed when there should have never been a problem. I’m going to ask a coworker if they could fix it. If not I’m returning both uniforms.

Basically how it would need to be fixed is by taking the collar off and resizing the neck hole, which is very hard to do without adding that additional seam that they're talking about. But a good hunk of the tunic would need to be dismantled to do so. The lining would need to be removed, and depending on how the tailor wants to go forward, some of the panels would be replaced.or that seam would be added.

As for pricing, some do and some don't. If a tailor has a flat rate, they may give a price, but most tailors I've met do charge by the hour and may provide their rates that way.

This was through Amazon there was no custom measurements, should I just email cosplaysky directly and ask them what their measurements are?

You definitely can, but the majority of people I know who had issues and were able to get it remade had theirs made with custom measurements. Never hurts to try though!

A tailor may be able to fix it, but it may end up being more cost effective to reorder. I know my own shop rates aren't cheap, but it really does depend on who's in your area!!

  12. As a general statement, it's very much up to your Garrison. Some are way more picky about these things than others.

For example, mine lets me take Line Officer Thrawn to troops. Other garrisons wouldn't do that, since there's no CRL for him as of yet.

If you're talking about creating a CRL for this costume, it would unfortunately be something that would require visual references to be able to get started (typically front, back, and side). These can come from any approved sources.

    I hope this helps!!

Sloan's tunic looked grey to me in the Kanan comic. Her armada card is grey too. The only other color I've seen her depicted in is a white uniform like thrawn, but I think that was fanart.

I went ahead and pulled her Armada card art as well, and while I personally think it leans more towards black, I can see where there may be some debate on that. Tbh, as an artist, portraying something AS black is one of the most difficult things in the known universe.

And I think I know the art you're talking about, the propaganda-esque poster? That's the one that my brain immediately goes to, and it was a poster that Del Rey made when Aftermath was coming out. It's great, I have it framed!!

I must admit that I'm waaaaaaaay behind on my comic reading, so I defer to your knowledge in the matter - But isn't she wearing grey in this panel?  In her other appearances in the book/series is she shown wearing a different color?  I see that and assume the colorist was going for fieldgrau rather than black.

I would have to go back and have a second look, but I always very much interpreted it as a black uniform. Especially since in any other depiction of Sloane, she's been in black until she was promoted to Grand Admiral.

There's been other art of her in the black uniform as well, which is depicted on her wiki page, but I could not for the life of me tell you if it was fanart or not. But I have never seen and official art of her in the field grey

If Rebels is the only known instance of a black staff officer wearing a double row rank bar, perhaps the next update should add such a restriction to the black staff officer CRL (regular and 451).  If a CRL for a Rebels Staff Officer is ever drafted, it could be allowed there.  But I'm of the opinion that since there is no such reference for the film version of the costume, we should hold Staff Officers to single bar ranks, even for basic.

The thing is, Rebels isn't the only version of the double stacked rank bars appearing. There are TONS of instances of them appearing on black uniformed officers, even within the new canon. While the majority of them are comics, they're still within the realm of canon, and I personally have objections to banning the double stacked bar outright when there are depictions of them.

For example, Rae Sloane in the Kanan comic is shown as a Vice Admiral, with no other obvious differences from a normal staff officer uniform, and would likely fall under the current CRL for anyone trying to portray her. And with the only difference being the rank bar itself, it's unlikely an entirely new, face character crl would be created just for her.

So! For whatever reason my camera did NOT want to show the differences between the joanns fabric and the cosplaysky fabric

As a general statement, the cosplaysky fabric will photograph in a range from what to see there to a more bright green. The joanns ranges from what you see to a darker grey depending on lighting. The Anovos is a bit darker than all of them. I don't have the German fabric, but i would say it would probably fit between the Joann's fabric and the Anovos.

Additionally, the cosplaysky does not have a distinctive weave to it, as it's entirely a polyester fabric, which the others are less synthetic. The other fabrics also have more of a weight to them, so a cosplaysky won't be able to have as crisp of a seam when you press it. It can be done with some work, but the heavier fabrics will lay flatter, esp since they'd be interfaced as well.

Overall though, for the price of the cosplaysky, it's great.
But if you decide to upgrade down the line, I 100% reccomend grabbing some fabric and commissioning a tailor. Then you'll get a perfectly fitted suit made for you!

thanks for the responses cps seems to be the best bang for the buck considering the hat issue, as far as anovos i would pull the trigger rite now if the hat wasn't a issue i really dont want to pay a extra 200 for pants. with all that i have a bit of thinking to do again thank you if anyone has some photos of their cps uniform feel free to post that will help me out a bit more thank you.

For what little money you spend CPS isn't bad. And you can always upgrade later if you fall head over heels in love with the costume itself.

But if you haven't been told before, literally BOMBARD them with extra measurements. The custom sized option is an absolute must, and email them a more detailed list after you order. What they ask for will not be enough.

Additionally, if you would like, i have Anovos, CosplaySky, and the Weird Joann's Field grey fabric that i can get photos of if you still need them
