When I was in the Navy (and certainly in the ‘70s) E4 and above were allowed to have beards. That ended in ‘84.

Different militaries have different rules, so too different galaxies.

You're correct, my mistake. I forgot I wasn't going with an OT TIE anymore, but continuing with my 181st, which uses the older style. Ignore the newbie. -facepalm-

I updated my post to alleviate further confusion.

I should have specified "in the Air Force". I know the Navy is a different ball game all together.

In the Navy the Ops Officer is a very specific title (there is an Operations Department) and fairly high up the food chain. They run the actual “operations” of ships movement, communications, information, navigation. Pilots, gunners, etc. are completely different animals. Ops owns the bridge unless the skipper is there.

Standing at attention (arms behind your back) works, the Imperial point as shown above is also a good one.

Datapads are good, if hard to come by.  If you have the headset, holding it to your ear as if you're listening is a good option, too.

Absent extra props, a raised fist or pointed finger often does the job.

It's permitted, and yes, there are a few people who have endeavored to cover every possible variant, which really ups their Level 2/3 counts.  (not that those mean much, other than some bragging rights... which I am all for LOL)  For people who just want to troop, it's kinda pointless.  Once you're approved, you can troop it.  Anything else, to them, is just spending more money.  For people who are more into the costuming and accuracy aspect, it's a lot of fun!  (if expensive)

Many costumes have 3+ variants, depending on swapping certain accessories.  ANH, ESB, ROTJ, at least, and sometimes Solo/R1.  (although sometimes, the base costume is different enough to warrant an entirely different base, particularly for those latter two and when you invite extra scrutiny)

As noted, the expectations climb with each re-submission, so ALL the little details, including those which aren't necessarily called out in the CRL, are going to be looked at much more closely.

The one caveat to all that is to not slam our judges with a ton of variants all at once.  I believe there is a sticky message somewhere in the Promotion forums that requests submissions to be kept to one per week.  (Not referring to an L2 submission proceeding to an L3, but rather, avoid submitting 3+ L2 variants all at once, etc.)

On page 123 of Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide you can see that Ensign Yort Cavwol (top left corner), Lieutenant Danbit Brun (top right corner) and 2nd Lieutenant Frobb (above the MSE-6 Droid) all wear black flight suits. Crewman Todes Halvax (top center) wears a grey flight suit.

The text on page 122 states: "Similarly, service technicians are low down the imperial hierarchy and are routinely ignored by those in command. Grey-uniformed technicians deal with the most menial of duties, while those in black overalls are higher in station. Navy troopers, gunners and ground crew are military roles that may not see combat, but play a vital role in day-to-day operations. The Death Star project has great need of such personnel. The Service and Technical Sectors of the battle station's personnel number in the hundreds of thousands."

I read somewhere recently that the Black flight suited Bridge Crew are officers of some sort, and that the Grey suits are enlisted.
Maybe that's how Glynn Dillon explained it?  If I find the reference, I'll try to share it.

Consider them "enlisted." You'll note that the CRLs list "Officers' and "Crew." Just like on a ship you will have officers barking orders and the crew following them.

Biggest issue is there is no centralized place where all of this info is collected, and it's a lot of work to collect info on each thing needs to be listed, and how much detail to include with each entry.  And there's maintaining it on an ongoing basis.

It seems like a small thing, and everyone likes it in theory, but each step forward I take, I discover other things that complicate it.

    Attention IOC!

Are you bored of having the same old Officer photos? Well perk up and feel good about your images with the new warning label that all Officers should be kept a safe distance from all Sith Lords. Try it now and let your friends know that you are a special and not to be choked. Enjoy!
