  1. Hey everyone,

I've been off these forums lately because, well, I had a date with Ms. COVID. It's been a rough hospital stay but I'm out and about, and as soon as I can stand(Laying in bed for weeks did nothing for my already bad knee) I'm submitting my photos for approval. I wanted to apologize to @AmadorHimselfand the others who were looking forward to more trivia; I never had time to write them up and then this happened. But I am alive, I am well, and I'm ready to be a bad guy, doing good.

    Glory to the Empire,

    Phillip

  2. This one isn't star-wars related at all, but I think it's a good story. I did theater for a decade before I decided I needed a steady paycheck, and as a result I had a lot of costumes over the years. One of my last shows was a comedy, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and I had to be in a wheelchair for almost the entire thing, which was three hours long. I decided to take the wheelchair out to Disneyland once while in costume to get accustomed to it for an all day event. Unfortunately, this also happened to be Dapper Day.

Let me tell you, if you find yourself at Disneyland on Dapper Day, I implore you to RUN. The park is SWAMPED and it is impossible to navigate on two legs, let alone four wheels. Disney gave us two cast members to help keep the massive crowds far enough away that I wouldn't get crushed, but as a result, the Dappers thought I was a Disney Character/Executive, and kept asking for photos. There was "Mr. Iger," "Mr. Disney," "Mr. Iwerks," and funnily enough, "Mr. Lasseter." The poor cast members didn't know what to do.

The moral of the story here: If you need to get accustomed to a certain costume, might be best not to be anywhere near tourism and special days.

  3. Hey guys!

Coming back from a funeral, I felt a little upset, so to make myself feel better, I did what any self-respecting star wars fan does: watch other star wars fans dress up as their favorite characters in parades. I went to eat dinner, and found suddenly I'm watching videos from an official 501st youtube channel!

This lead me to a single question...

WHY THE BIBBITY BOBBITY ISN'T THIS POSTED ANYWHERE?!

I've included a link at the end of this for those who also are unaware of this. I'm watching the Spec Ops and Pathfinders detachments go through their costumes and CRLs, I see Kylo Ren reading a star wars story, and what hurts the most is that most of these videos have less than 100 views!

This is a wonderful resource that we should make plainly available here on the IOC, and I really hope to see some IOC videos get published as well!

Not to throw shade at any detachment, but the biggest reason I went Officer and not Death Trooper was because I couldn't actually find the SpecOps forums... I asked and no one would help me with my link issues...

So, who else thinks that the youtube channel should be posted SOMEWHERE here? What kind of videos can members(Cause I still got some time before I submit) begin dreaming up? Do you need music for them(Please say yes)? And where is the video about how IOC is the best detachment?

    Thanks guys!

Note: Any indignation or ingratitude expressed above is purely for comedic purposes and is not in any way reflective of actual resentment held by the speaker. Except for the IOC being the best. That's objective fact.

  4. Based on some very brief research on this forum, I came to the conclusion that in terms of jacket, pants, and belt, the only way to get ahold of them is finding a seamstress to do them custom. This is, however, based on posts from 2015-2016.

For boots, there were a few sets of jackboots that were approved for some costumes, however I couldn't find links to their sellers.

The helmet, however, is a different story. While I don't know much about their reputation or their current availability, Fiernock Base Designs(Link at the end) do make a cadet helmet, both in kit and prefinished variations. You may wish to get into contact with them on their facebook page.

    Hope this helps!

  5. I'm supposed to get my uniform from them in about twenty minutes(Local mailman has an OCD problem with timing, I caught him once when he was running three minutes late and he couldn't stop apologizing. Poor guy). I hear their stuff is fantastic, I was just curious if there were any other vendors.

  6. Hey y'all!

I'm looking to purchase the gloves for ESB and ROTJ line officers, but since the IOC Costume Resource List is terribly outdated, I'm not sure who the current vendors are. Could someone reply with reputable sources for these fine leather products? Thank you!

Also I promise, Amador, I haven't forgotten the weekly trivia. Bills were a lot higher than I expected them to be this week and had to pull some extra shifts to cover costs. I'll get it out this friday, I promise.

  7. Scores and Answers

Congratulations to our two participants this week! Fantastic answers, and I had a blast reading through them. However, it is now time for the answers to our questions. After those will be the scores.

    Crewmember Level

    1. Which of the Following Officers did not canonically die?

    d) General Veers

    8. What is the highest military rank a clone is seen serving as?

    a) Captain

    Grand Admiral Level

    Free Response Questions

    9. Which Clone Battalion Commanding Officer is the ONLY one seen in the entire TCW series wearing a Republic Officers Uniform?

This one was intended to be tough. The ONLY Clone Battalion Commanding Officer we see in a standard officer uniform is Commander Wolfe, in the Malevolence arc. While we see other clones in officer or off-duty uniforms, none of them are confirmed as battalion commanders.

Also, yes, I realized I misspelled "Battalion" in the original thread.

    10. What rank was the officer arresting Luke Skywalker wearing in ROTJ?

Commander is the answer for this one. While the Empire is notorious for being inconsistent in their ranking system, here it is confirmed by Lord Vader canonically.

    And the winner is...

AmadorHimself! Congratulations on a score of 9/10!

Glory530 came second, with a score of 7/10.

Thank you, both of you, for participating in the opening week's trivia! Stay tuned for the next release later today(Possibly tomorrow cause I got called into work early).

  8. I absolutely cannot wait to see the finished product. This uniform is just awesome in every way, and WILL be my second build once I get my Line Officer set and ready all the way to L3.

I'm curious, though: How did you achieve the ribbing in the belt?

  9. Just gonna bump this since we're halfway through the week, and I've only got one response! Come on everyone, don't be scared. I admit Question Nine is intimidating but this is not as dangerous as failing in front of Lord Vader. I promise you, no force-choked officers will line the floor of the Executor if you miss a question.

I'll release the scores Thursday night, because that's my night off this week(If anyone has been wondering why a Californian has been replying to everything at 4 am in the morning, it's cause I work 4 pm - 1:30-3 am most nights).

  10. Howdy y'all! Some of you saw my interest thread a few days ago, and now I'm releasing my first week's worth of questions. Every release, I'll include the theme of the questions and any notes needed to understand them, as well as winners of the last release. But without further ado, here's the actual trivia!

    Week One - Canon Officers

We're gonna start relatively easy, focusing on officers that are within the official(That means Disney) Canon. Yes, the new Thrawn Series is considered canon for the purposes of this trivia. I tried to keep it movie-related, but I did include one or two from the books just to make it interesting. There are three levels of trivia:

Crewmember: Easier questions designed to be answered by anyone who has an introductory/semi-knowledge of Star Wars and it's officer corps. This is ALWAYS relative to the theme of the trivia; I can only make topics about Ozzel so easy before having to go into comics, which not everyone will have read.

Officer: Designed to be somewhat challenging, but doable with a little thought. Will require some more in-depth knowledge of Star Wars to get 100%.

Grand Admiral: Only for people who do nothing but study the art and culture of Star Wars. Prepare for obscure references and one-off lines.

Before we get into this, a quick note about how these are put together: I come up with about four dozen questions I could ask, and then remove the ones that don't fit the theme, rules, or just aren't interesting. If you think a question is poor, say so at the bottom of your response. I'll review it, and get back to you.

    How to Play

Very easy: Answer each question below in a reply to this thread. Include the question number and FULL answer(Names are better than letters). I'll release scores as a reply to the thread at the end of every week.

Now, before I get force-choked for taking too long, here we go!

If you think these questions were great, terrible, not in line with imperial doctrine, let me know after your responses! If you have ideas for questions in the future, shoot me a message with the question and answer. I'll not only get back to you, but if I like it(Or if the Emperor commands it) I'll include it in future trivia releases!

  11. Alright. So, all things considered, I am going to purchase a set of Hessens. I'm getting a Size 13, because my feet run wide, but not so wide as I should need customs. If they do turn out to be too small, I know of a local school that could use some new boots for their theater program. 501st is charity work, right?

I am fortunate enough to be splitting my monthly costs four ways, so I have enough left over to afford a second set if need be after a week. But given the size I saw from kman, and the knowledge shared by Nathan, I should be able to fit in the size 13 without too much trouble.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it, and I will be sure to let you all know how they turn out, so we can further examine the quality of Hessens, and other boot manufacturers.

  12. Hey there everyone!

I've always wanted to be a part of this community, and now that I can, I want to help make it lively. So, I wanted to introduce a new forum "game" to try and achieve that.

To be quick with the question, would anyone be interested in an organized weekly trivia? The topics would range from Canon Officers to Legend Battles,  501st History to Costuming Techniques, and so much more. Anyone could answer during the week and at the end, the top scorers would be revealed for bragging rights. Who knows, if this picks up perhaps there could even be prizes later on down the line.

I'm curious what y'all think about this. Let me know in the replies!

  13. So it sounds like I should be able to fit in a size 12 Hessen, or look for cheaper boots out there in my size. I do understand and sympathize with Nathan's customer service issue with Hessen. I'm a food-service industry assistant manager; my job is to assist customers who did not get what they paid for. My favorite is those who refuse to wear masks, the other day we had someone come in who wouldn't wear a mask, and when I told him to leave, he finally relented... by grabbing a nearby trash bag from one of my co-workers and holding it against his face.

In general, companies are simply trying to get you out the door. The longer you spend standing around in the lobby complaining, the less time they can spend making money. My manager mentor said it best: "I don't change a ladies tire because I'm nice; I change it so she stops taking up space in my parking lot." In this case, Hessen is trying to keep you from taking up space in their parking lot, but instead of changing the tire, they're calling their insurance to see if they'll pay for the tow truck. I hope that analogy makes some kind of sense. The big thing to know about customer service is, they will only let you go so far up the chain before they stop making better offers. Usually, getting to my level(Entry-Level Management) is where it stops. If I offer you a partial refund, that's cause I got told by upper management that's what we're gonna offer for issue X. If you haven't asked to speak to supervisors/bigger fish, try that and ask what they're willing to do. If they tell you the same as before, then they won't offer anything better. I don't mean to add to your frustrations. I'm offering my perspective because I have some knowledge of how this system works.

I do have a question, Kman: Would you mind doing a width measurement of the size 12's? That's the biggest concern for me now, is the width. I run a little wide usually, but I want to be sure.

  14. I thought I should reply here cause I have a bit of a sappy story. Bear with me.

I just turned 18 in January of this year, and my graduation... sucked. I thought my make-up present to myself would be joining up with the 501st, who I've held the highest respect for ever since I was four.

In 2006, I attended a football party with my dad, and the way I like to tell it is "I ate the cookies." Twelve hours later I'm rushed to the emergency room, put on an IV and left alone in a dark hospital room with no one else around me. My blood had turned to sludge, and the I was losing so much fluids somehow that they had to change the IV every thirty minutes. My father was also ill, in the room next door. But as I laid there, in the morning, I heard this voice, sounding like it was coming from a trash compactor. First I heard my dad go crazy. Then in came the first bucket-head I ever saw. Behind him, an officer stood, and even though he came in a-trooping, there was a genuine care in his eyes I can't forget.

They came by the bed, and sat there, and asked me what my favorite star wars movie was(I couldn't answer since I hadn't watched them yet). The trooper chuckled, and asked the nurse at the door if they had a copy of A New Hope. They wheeled in a TV cart with a VHS and popped in Star Wars, and watched the first hour with me. I remember pointing at Vader and going "Scary!" The officer said, "Yeah, he scares me too." Now, I figure that's an Episode V reference, but even so, makes me chuckle.

I never met them again. I don't even know their names. But to this day, I remember their kindness. Where I work now, we have a saying: "We Stand for Something Good." It's our mission statement, and I believe wholeheartedly. I believe this organization also Stands for Something Good, because I've been impacted by it directly. They not only brought me into Star Wars, where I've now chatted with Billy Dee Williams, performed with John Williams, and met Anthony Daniels(Phew, not another Williams), but also made me believe that just a simple kindness, like bringing in a cart with a movie, can help someone who didn't understand what was going on or why the doctors always looked so grave.

Thank you for helping me then. Thank you for letting me a part of this now.

  15. Hello!

I'm looking into purchasing the Hessen riding boots, but I know their sizing is notoriously bad. I'm a size 11 for most shoes, and was considering a size twelve. Does anyone have any knowledge of their boots, and how the sizing is nowadays? I know they run small, but that's about it. How small usually? How thin are they?
