Stare at these boxes long enough and the difference is quite clear.

Many of the costumes have gone on tour and been photographed extensively.

Go ahead and watch the movie again and see if you can capture evidence to the contrary.  I've done so... carefully... and not seen a single one that looked like it could be resin.  The proof is there on screen.  Please feel free to try again yourself... there aren't actually that many scenes with officers, and only a handful of officers even wear belt boxes.  They're just not there, on screen.  I just watched it again tonight, in 4K UHD, on a calibrated 85" screen, specifically looking for belt boxes the whole time, to be sure.

Now, to your point: Is there any way to SWEAR there isn't a single out-of-focus background character wearing a resin one?  Of course not.  And it's pretty darned hard to prove a negative, without talking directly to everyone in the prop department.  But I'm pretty sure are you not going to be able to show us a screen shot showing positive evidence of resin boxes in Rogue One.  If you have some from some other source, by all means please share it with us.

*Everything* we've gleaned to date has indicated metal for Rogue One, and I've seen nothing to the contrary, including in deleted scenes and material not released to the public.  On the other hand, the new resin ones can be seen pretty readily, in some subsequent features.

But here's the main question, after all that:  What would it matter, if you found some evidence that one random out of focus background character used a resin belt box?  We've made it pretty clear that the plan is to allow both...  We're not making a separate character CRL just for a belt box difference.  We're just trying to figure out the best way to state it in the CRL.

    I love my vacuformed compads!

It's always a balancing act between screen accuracy and having something look better than screen accurate... the on-screen ones never got the kind of close scrutiny that we get when we troop.  The crisp detail you can get from the resin compads can look awfully nice, for instance.

Still, I've mostly switched to vacuformed ones, for my own costumes, just because I'm an accuracy nut that way.

ID6187 reacted to Chargrilled in Navy Trooper Dress CRL Update
    Hello all!

Jeff advised to stick a thread up regarding a proposed change to the Imperial Navy Trooper: Dress Uniform CRL so as to get some eyeballs on it.

Currently, the CRL only lists holsters for Version One (ANH) and Version Two (ESB):

My proposal is to add another holster entry below "Holster, Versions One and Two" and above "DH-17 blaster", which would look like the following:

    Image (example):

    Holster, Version Four
Made of black leather or leather-like material.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Holster is made of leather. Holster is worn on the right-hand side of the belt. Holster is affixed via a single solid loop over the belt. No buttons/snaps/rivets/screws are used. Joining edges are stitched only. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
Holster is made from a single piece of continuous leather. Holsters made from 2 or more joined pieces are not acceptable. The outer surface of the holster is smooth black with a subdued shine. The inside of the holster is a raw black leather texture.

Image credit to @ID6187. I just removed the background in Photoshop and rotated it to match the CRL style.
Myself and BJ both (among others I believe) have Philo's holsters and they're dead on to the reference images:

ID6187 reacted to Steven in Staff Officer (black) CRL Update to R1 specifications
    Hello to you all!

We now have the ANH Staff Officer CRL since a few weeks and we are all very happy about it. So I think it is time to update the current "old" Staff Officer CRL to a "Rogue One Staff Officer" CRL, because in my eyes there is enough evidence and reference for it to make this into something we all have seen on screen.

I took the original Staff Officer CRL, added the new parts and removed parts that are not needed for the R1 Version. Changes are marked with green and sometimes I also added a personal note, only for the understaning why I did the things the way I did them. I will provide visual reference for every change made.

Rogue One Staff Officer/ Security Branch Officer (Rogue One/SOLO)
    Imperial Hat, black
    For 501st approval:
    · Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and
    tunic if applicable.
¨ Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
    · Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4" (101.6 mm) tall.
Front and rear "flaps" overlap on the sides and are about 4" (101.6
    mm) high.
    · Front bill extends 3" down, decorated with 6 or 7 concentric stitches.
    · Imperial Code Disk is positioned in the center of the front vertical flap.
·Code Disk has no notch detail on the outermost disk.

For level two certification (if applicable):
code disk exactly matches screen used prop.
These two pics clearly show that the disk has no notch detail:

For level three certification (if applicable):
    · Code disk exactly matches screen-used prop.
Well somehow it looks like there is nothing to be L3 now, if you have any suggestions for specific L2 and L3 requirements please let us know.

    Tunic, Black
    For 501st approval:
    · Fabric should be a medium weight suiting material exactly matching
the pants and hat. Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
·Tunic is double-breasted with a left over right closure on the tapered
    yoke.
Left over right closure can be seen here:

    · Yoke comes up across the shoulder to the top shoulder seam.
·The standing collar has square corners and is about 1.25" (31.8 mm)
tall and closes snugly and includes a modesty panel behind closure.
Collar edges are closed with two eye hooks.
    · There are code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket
from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole.
    · Sleeves are long, and without decoration, cuffs or buttons, containing 2
seams, one along the bottom and one along the back.
    · Tunic should be constructed with no top-stitching (stitches visible on
    the exterior surface of fabric)
    · Hook and eye fasteners on the uniform should not be visible.

For level two certification (if applicable):
    · There is a dart of about 3,5" (90mm) in the top center of the yoke.
The dart is clearly longer than only 2".

Additionally there is a seam running the entire circumference of the
tunic, dividing it along a line hidden by the uniform belt.
    · The back of the tunic has princess seams that run vertically and turns
outward to intersect the arm-hole seam at the vertical center.
Princess Seams can be seen here, not the best quality, but you can see them:

For level three certification (if applicable):
    · Tunic must be secured on the right side by snaps or buttons, not Velcro.
·There is no topstitching visible anywhere.
    ·A lining is sewn in..
I restructured the wording of this and made every requirement an own point as it is in the other CRLs.

    Rank Bar
    For 501st approval:
    · See the Imperial Rank Bar page for more information.
Here I would add a link to the official IOC Rank Bar Guide
    · Worn on the left side of the tunic over the heart.
·Rank consists of two metal bars; each bar is approximately 1.25 inches
    in height.
    · Rank consists of colored plastic tiles mounted on a metal bar.
    · Rank tiles have an approximate 1/8 inch depth.
·Rank tile dimensions are appropriate and proportional to the sizing of
the bar to allow for equidistant and even spacing from each other and
    the border of the bar.
    · Rank bar exactly matches the color pattern used in the film.
I used the wording of the Krennic CRL for this. If someone has the correct measurements or an idea how we should determine the size please let us know.

For level two certification (if applicable):
    · Double row rank bars are not accurate.

For level three certification (if applicable):
·Belt box, code cylinder, and rank badge configuration is consistent with
    film canon officers.
    · Rank consists of colored plastic push buttons mounted on a metal bar.

    Code Cylinders
Here you can see different Code Cylinder variations:

From left to right: 2 Dosimeter Style with silver clip, 1 Rod Style, 1 Dosimeter Style with silver clip, no Code Cylinders.
I'm not sure about the Officer on the right, I think he plugged his Code Cylinders in the console in front of him:

They look like two Rod Style Code Cylinders to me, with the typicall top.

    For 501st approval:
¨ Between 1 to 2 per costume may be worn.
Basic Style: silver "chalk holder" tube with short clip and blue colored top. Not sure if we should still allow the chalk holder version. - any ideas?
¨ Rod style: machined aluminum rod with flaring disc detail at top
¨ Dosimeter style: True Dosimeter with correct clip and blue top.

For level two certification (if applicable):
    · If Dosimeter-Style Code Cylinders are used only real or replica dosimeters are used.
    · Dosimeters have a silver, non-brass clip.
     · If only one is worn, it is on the left side.

For level three certification (if applicable):
·Belt box, code cylinder, and rank badge configuration is consistent with
    film canon officers.

    Belt
    For 501st approval:
    · The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like
    material.
    · Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width, up to 3" (76.2 mm) is acceptable.
    · There are no loops on the belt.
    · A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from
    the buckle.
¨ The belt is worn with the snap to the left side of the wearer. I thought I make this L1, but we can also leave it for L2.
    · The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal
    looking material.
    · The buckle size is approximately 2 5/8" (66.7 mm) high and 4 1/8"
(104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
    · Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center.
¨ Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for
information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.

For level two certification (if applicable):
    · Belt is made of leather.
    · Snap is worn to the left of the wearer. As said above.
    · Buckle has a slight horizontal curve.

For level three certification (if applicable):
    · Belt has a groove 1/4“ (5mm) from the top and bottom edge along the lenght of the belt.
I took this wording from the Krennic CRL. Could also be added to L2.
If you look very closely and zoom in you can see the shade of the grooves:

    Jodhpur Trousers, black
    For 501st approval:
    · Fabric is a medium weight suiting material exactly matching the tunic
    and hat.
¨ Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
    · Flared riding breeches are canon.
    · Breeches must be worn with boots.
    · Pockets are acceptable, although they are not visible with the tunic
    on.

    Officer Boots
Option I - English Riding Boots
    For 501st approval:
    · Knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or
    leather-like material.
                         ¨ Rubber is not acceptable.
¨ PVC or synthetic material is allowed as long as it gives the appearance of leather.
    · There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration (this does not apply for the L3 adjustment strap)
    · Boots have conservative heels.
    · If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.
¨ Not visible from the front, side or back.
    · The top of the boots may be flat or Spanish Style, but not Cowboy or
Super Hero (pointed at the front) style.

For level two certification (if applicable):
    · Boots do not have a zipper.

For level three certification (if applicable):
    · Boots are made of leather.
                         ¨ Not vinyl or PVC.
    · Exact replicas of English riding (dress) boots or Equestrian boots.
    · Boots must have the top adjustment strap, on the outside of the boot and slightly set to the rear.

Option II - First Order Style Boots
For 501st approval: Knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or leather-like material, with moderate to high-gloss shine. There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration. Boot seams closely match screen-used boots. Soles are flat. If zippers are present, they are on the inner part of the boot shaft only.
For level two certification (if applicable): Boots have a zipper on the inner shaft. Seams and design match screen-used boots.

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below.

     Belt Boxes, Rogue One-Style
    For 501st approval:

    Added Rogue One specific measurements.
    · Two boxes are worn vertically, one on either side of the belt.

There are Officers with and without Belt Boxes, so they are an optional item. (Please ignore the red circel, I simply re-used the Code Disk Pic.)

Depends on the exchange rate.  Right now for two of his it's around $65 USD.  When I bought my first two it was close to $85 with the exchange rate.  The fact the dollar stopped tanking (for now) vs. other currencies is helpful, but with all the comments coming from DC, it's possible we would see something like $100 for two in the near future.

Love Philo and his dosimeters, but it would be helpful if we got someone on this side of the pond making them too.

Philo is one of the few consistent suppliers for replica dosimeter style code cylinders, and they are very good. Might seem expensive, but they arent bad, actually. Time to time, Strongbow sells them too, but he only sells a few when he finds surplus dosimeters.

So I contacted our good friends over at EAO directly and I learned a few things:

    1) The 01 series is NOT being discontinued (as some have speculated), however
    2) They are NOT considered standard stock anymore, so availability will continue to dwindle.
    3) There will be a time in the very near future that they all have lead times standard.
    4) The suppliers we have Identified are more or less it. There are a few smaller companies, but they will have further limited stocks.
    5) You can order direct from EAO, but the minimum order is $250.

    Just throwing it out there.

Were you also interested in a blaster? You would be talking about an MSP5 then. I've built all metal, Denix based versions and plastic airsoft versions with 3D printed parts. While I'm always partial to the heft and feel of metal, trooping with one can become really tiresome after awhile,as gravity wants to wreak havoc with pulling my belt down  lol.

You can pick up a cheap springer airsoft broomhandle mouser on ebay, but make sure it's 1:1 scale (12.5 " long I believe). Shapeways sells a really good 3D printed parts kit  to assemble yourself. https://www.shapeways.com/product/V4LNTD824/merr-sonn-power-5-v2-0-kit?optionId=42945530&li=ostatus

You'll need a good BROWN leather holster as well. Our very own Geohazzard makes them but I'm not sure what his status is currently. Best of luck!
