Excellent reference gathering from these episodes. Great to be able to get such clear screencaps. Beats a cameraphone pointed at a TV.

Excited to get this one together. Made a new rank badge to match the Captain of the Gozanti in S2 of the Mandalorian. It's much wider like how Veers' rank is except in the Captain's configuration. Should have all the parts now. Just need to toss on the new greeblies on my hat and belt and should be ready to suit up in this configuration based on the CRL.

Very happy to see movement on this. I've been working on getting some of the changes that apply to non saga uniforms over classic saga ones.

Truthfully what I've seen above is one thing that keeps me away from this forum. You only added evidence to his end statement there in that incoherent rant. I've been on this forum for quite some time and the animosity presented in these blaster waving contests is pushing people away. Information is presented and if it doesn't line up with expectations it is dismissed and deemed contradicting. Where is the information to actually help build these things correctly or start trying to?

From what's been presented it seems rather simple to relate the officer's on the yacht to Dillon's rank system and our straight pants officers from ANH. We have this lined up for us far easier than we did even from when I started this process in '09. We have a wealth of information and need to take advantage of it.

What buckrogersbarker said makes sense. If he is correct, and it seems to be the case, then a rank bar is just a rank bar. It shows the position someone has in the hierarchy of imperial military. It has nothing to do with a title someone has or what job that person does. Galen Erso seems to be a scientist in the rank of operations major in the Army Operations, whatever that supposed to be, of the Empire during the flashback scene.

There are similar things in the real military. A nurse in the US Army can have the rank of a major and have the position of head nurse. A couple of years ago, I knew a guy, who was a major in the US Air Force. He had a degree in computer science but his occupation in the Air Force was flying a C-130 Hercules.

    alright here we go.

This was the rank structure that was created by Glyn Dillon and David Crossman for Rogue One and the Solo movie.  It is really David Crossman who created this, but he is not on social media and Dillon does speak to it on Twitter and instagram.

Here is a close up of the operations officers ranks.  Erso wore the Operations Major rank in the flashback cocktail sequence on Coruscant.  I think Crossman screwed this up because it is equivalent with naval officers... but I digress.

there are a number of people with these rank bars seen in A New Hope and Rogue One.  Chief Bast is the best known, but also is General Romodi, who in the Rogue One visual guide is a veteran of the Clone Wars and is Tarkin's "Old Battle Horse".  Hardly a scientist.

He is seen in the ANH conference room scene.

And reappears in the Death Star Overbridge seconds before it is destroyed wearing straight pants and Chelsea boots.

Title and Rank being different is not a radical concept.  I am sorry you guys do not understand it, but that doesn't mean that it is not valid.  A person can be a drill instructor and Gunnery sergeant at the same time.  A person can be a science officer and a operations major at the same time.  This is easily grasped by most people.  This isn't contradictory.

https://twitter.com/JonKasdan/status/1000608682307010560 Here is the link to Jon Kasdan's tweet.  We will see Carida eventually and you will see operations officers there.

Kris... you take the air out of the room and end the discussion.  You are confrontational and dismissive.  The only people who perhaps feel they are safe to talk, or permitted to talk, are those appointed or linked to you.  Because of that a lot is missed here or overlooked.  The people participating take their cues from you.  If something should be supported or if it should be attacked, they look to you first.  If it should should be discussed or if it should be ignored, they look to what you say first.

Because of your manner, a number of people that can contribute have walked away.  People with access to information, creators, behinds the scenes stuff.  People who can make things, who are trained tailors, fabric specialists,  people who do this professionally have walked away because of your manner and how you talk to them over even the smallest of things.  Because of that we have in this detachment missed pockets, buttons, snaps, there is almost no discussion on fabric, let alone when a costume has different fabrics meeting one another.  And we proudly say these are the best made costumes anywhere and yet don't want to talk about what they may be missing.  What we have left is a few people skilled and almost no one formally trained.

A Deep aversion to standing armies or why are rank bars different from before Empire Strikes Back and after.

Before the Clone Wars, the Old Republic enjoyed almost 1000 years of relative peace.  The Republic while vast and expansive, was NOT ubiquitous and even well-traveled parts of the galaxy did not accept its currency.  It was only after the Clone Wars that the republic increased more than 25% of its size and territory by acquiring the Outer Rim Territories, Hutt space and what would become the Corporate Sector.  All of these were spoils of war controlled by the Trade Federation, the Techno Union, the Banking Clan and the other conglomerates that made up the Confederacy.

Before the Clone Wars, most military and police protection was performed by local system militias.  The ground and space force of Naboo is an excellent example of this with forces to defend their cities from pirates, but not enough to take on a well-organized military.  The Droid armies of the Trade Federation could be quickly built and this imbalance did much to push the military creation act that kicked of the Clone Wars.

Before the military creation act, the closest thing that the Republic had to a military was the Judicials.  These soldiers represented the Republic senate wherever they went.  Clad in the same blue uniforms that would later be adopted by the Imperial officer corp, much of their roots and traditions can be found in this elite force.  Tarkin, Yularen, and Screed were all Judicials.  Orsen Krennic used Judicial Rangers when he rescued Galen Erso.

The end of the Clone Wars brought the nascent officer corp into its own replacing the Jedi as leaders of the Clone forces.  The Star Destroyers commanded by these officers were of the same shape as the Jedi fighters of the time, drawing comparisons that the new officer corp was the inheritor of the Jedi legacy.  Still, the same trepidation that had made the Military Creation Act difficult to pass at the start of the war prevented the unification of the entire military under direct Coruscant control.

Nominally, the emperor controlled the Galactic forces left over from the Clone Wars directly from Coruscant.  You can recognize these members as wearing double rank bars and often times being referred to as “fleet officers”.  The officers that wore single rank bars reported to the local sector moff and were under the oversight of the sector’s senator.  With 75% of the empire’s sectors being monitored by imperial senators, it is no wonder why Tarkin and Darth Vader were so concerned about word of the Death Star getting out.

The officers that oversaw the construction of the Death Star were sector controlled, not controlled by Coruscant directly.  But as the sector moffs (and Grand Moff) of the out Rim Territories worked directly for the Emperor and none reported to a local senator since most of these territories were occupied worlds, they were able to operate with impunity and secrecy.  Direct connections to Coruscant control happened only through top admiralty: for example Krennic who was a fleet admiral.  The rest worked in silos, many of which never knew for what the final product was to be.  This was the time that the bulk of the Imperial Military was far from the core worlds and hidden in the shadows of the outer rim.

New moffs and admirals were being minted in this time.  Admiral Versio of the ISB is hailed not just for his activities as an intelligence leader, but as the person who brought his home world into the empire.  He was rewarded with a place not in sector politics, but a position in the expanding galactic fleet.  And his world had its military standardized to the Imperial model.

The difference between sector fleets and the galactic fleet has a real world comparison to the armies of the United States.  The National guards are commanded by the governors of their respective states, but do have a place in the hierarchy of the US Army in times of emergency.  They are trained by many of the same schools that their regular army colleagues are trained.  They wear the same uniforms for the most part with minor differences to distinguish them.  Most officer uniforms had specific sector insignia for the collars and hats they wore.

The elimination of the Imperial Senate removed the senators that provided oversight for the sector militaries.  The regional governors took direct control of their territories and their militaries reporting directly to the Emperor much like the regional governors of Rome took to reporting to their emperors.  The illusion of separation was over and the single bar rank system disappeared as did sector insignia.  Everyone wore double rank bars from then on out until the end of the empire five years later.  The Emperor had direct control of his empire then.

You must be quite unfamiliar with video games. You see when you have the model from the game you can pose him in any which way you want the same way the programmers do. I asked for the T pose as it is generally the most useful for these sorts of things. I'm working on getting us a generic officer from in game as well, but work today is a bit more pressing. I'm trying to help here but really feeling quite off put that the validity of these models is a question at all. I wish I had the ability to conjure up models like this out of nowhere. Models like this would be invaluable for reference for doing game style costumes just as we have utilized t posed for clone wars characters.

I thought this conversation warranted a bit more than screengrabs, but rather a dedicated T pose in neutral lighting to help us better understand how Hask plays into the CRL's. Like others have said we haven't established Veers and others as CRL's (Save for Veers in armor which for who knows why isn't under this roof) so I can't say I agree with making Hask his own unique CRL yet. The uniqueness of the character seems marginal as I'm sure his body is identical to other game models save for the face. Regardless he will be useful in helping us develop our First Order developments. Since Dice was attempting to make what we see on screen we should be treating our game models and our film models as directly related otherwise comic references and such will each need their own CRLS to remain consistent across the Board.

Really brings out that charcoal grey. But hey if we make him his own CRL don't worry about keeping your uniform clean or shaving. Yikes!

I just had a friend pull it last night and render it. Not so sure it's a prototype but an interesting spot. My bet is cinematic vs in game models differences.

As for cinematics generally those are prerendered and can be slightly different and more detailed than in game models. It's been some time since I went through that doc but are there not more make officers running about?

In regards to animated we have had the legion build and approve movie versions of animated characters since that is what they represent. Sure we can make it stylized like in clone wars but we know what they are imulating. If we keep along that path Hask and other in game models will have to have their own separate crls because the game looks this way and the real ones look this way. We don't make a game version if kylo with xcoser fabric, we make a TFA or TLG. Point being the game uniforms and the movie uniforms need to coexist in the same crl, otherwise you have a TFA, TLG, and BF2 costume varient. We don't do that for ANH, ESB, and ROTJ so much.

Considering the forum has over 6,000 members, and at minimum 200 active posters, I find your generalizations about "most imperial officers in the legion" to be glib, and frankly untrue.

You consider 1/30 participation a success that doesn’t merit increasing that number?  We only have 1684 active officers in the legion.  Are all the rest crewmen?  We have the wrong name!

In ten years as an officer, I believe you have missed opportunities to connect with active members all over the world by not participating here.

Having traveled the world and met and trooped with people from many different garrisons, that would not be my assessment.

There is a method in place here for hopeful recruits to introduce themselves, find a dearth of information, and get help from active officers in creating the best costumes they can.

Yes….I just don’t think it is currently very effective.  Results may vary.

My question is this: How can that be achieved from a closed Facebook group?

The biggest thing is that the people that don’t come or don’t often frequent the forums would be kept in the loop as it is said.  This is a best practice used by other detachments.  We are not blazing a new trail here.

For those that are on social media, we have a very active open Facebook page, would you continue to see that remains accessible or would you close the group?

I would keep it open.  Those pages are great for public relations and public information that can be shared through it.  But not everything should be shared through a public page.

I’ll give you an example right here. A reminder was sent through a private detachment Facebook group that elections were coming up.  This would have told members that don’t frequent the forums they need to get on there.  Therefore, there are some that discovered that they could not ask questions in this forum or read them or the answers.  There are more than a few people upset about that.  Luckily through the legion forums, they will still be able to vote.

If you operated two Facebook pages and a forum simultaneously, would that not confuse new people more?
No, people do it all the time.  The forums would be the prime means of communication. The Instagram, twitter and facebook pages would be for public consumption and publicity and the private group would be for privileged communication with the membership that are not always on the forums.

Once again, these are best practices adopted  by many organizations and can be handled by us.  No one is losing what they are used to using.

Good call on that third one Jello, I don't know how many times people confuse me for a Nazi *sigh*.
Anyways here's a few things I've picked up on that haven't been listed:
Always stick close to your Vader as it just looks right and you can handle for them.
Insoles are a life-saver, I've walked miles and miles in my boots without grinding my feet to stumps.
Pockets in pants-seems silly but trust me it sucks to be without them.
It is frowned upon by some for a green officers but for I carry a sidearm. People love blasters and it means you can do more then just point menacingly. Especially good when you are limited in troop numbers and can't order TK's to fire for you.
Don't try and boss around another trooper as if you are an officer unless they're cool with it otherwise you may come off as a bit of a jerk to some.
Should always be emphasized but hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Stay in shape (goes for all costumes)
Always maintain good posture and an imposing stance when in public eye. Be proud we're the brains and looks of the Empire!
Align your rank badge and dosimeters ahead of time then put on your jacket and check for straightness in the mirror.
If you have a black uniform wear only a single row rank badge.
Crewmen, don't wear a rank badge take pride in your enlisted status!
Change up your pose every picture or so.
That's all for now but I'm sure I've got more.
