  1. When I started we approved grey and green, but we came to realise the uniforms we thought we grey actually worked out to be green. We believe the majority of the uniforms are the same colour - but appear different in different lighting conditions. At the moment olive jackets from different suppliers don't match, and look odd, it would look a right mess if you included another colour.

This is the basis of the Han Solo hoth parka conversation. What colour is it? Blue or brown. Due to the lighting conditions and filters they used the jacket appears to be blue. This idea was promoted with the action figures. In reality the parka was actually brown. Screen accuracy versus real life accuracy. On the whole we go with screen accuracy.

Saying that I believe High General Trech Molock has a grey uniform, but this is not the standard olive uniform, and a grey version of the ANH staff officer uniform (The Fahrenheit 451 style version). The collar is not joined at the middle, and the front panel has additional stitching.

  2. Generally in the forum we don't discuss specific characters, we deal with the costumes as a whole. Researching specific characters is more of a personal project. In my role as a Garrison costume mentor I sat down a watched the film on freeze frame a number of times and constructed a list breaking down the uniform configuration for ANH, and posted it here. I'm close to finishing the list for ESB, but there's less variance and my other duties have severely hampered this. I originally thought Malcolm Weaver had 3 red buttons, but after reading some continuity notes taken from the film I believe it's 2. Due to the fact it's so hard to tell, we accept 2 or 3.

  3. I don't have the contact details, but D. Laws, Moncal and Trooper Master produce General Veers armour and helmets. They're well know within the industry, maybe ask if anyone has their contact details in your Garrison.

To me the rank of Grand Moff seems a little high to be wondering around in battle armour. Someone made a comment to me, it's nice to see an old guy wearing senior rank bar - they don't look right on young guys ... thanks. For added accuracy you may want to consider a rank suited to your age, just a thought.

  4. Art,

Unfortunately your boots appear to be jack boots and not riding boots. Whilst they are leather and a nice quality they do not quite match the reference image of the CRL, and should be knee high.

These would need to be remedied before we can continue, other than that your uniform is a good quality, though:

The gloves are not correct, they should be gauntlets with a wide cuff.

You need to ensure the modesty panel of your collar is correctly fastened in the submission pictures.

Your trousers and jacket would need to be ironed.

Yes but what is it's name?

Sadly we don't have any inside info on the film, our sources of references are from the public domain.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't have a name, so few things did in the original films. It was only later that meaning was attached.

  6. From memory the lowest rank you see on film is a Staff Officer with 2/3 red buttons in a line, and a Line Officer with 2 red and 2 blue buttons.

Also a point to consider, if you want to be a little OCD is age and perceived military experience. It would be more in keeping with the film if a younger person had a lower rank and an older person a higher rank. Being 18 and a Grand Moff would be a stretch. But as long as you're within the guidelines do what makes you feel happy, it's your money, your costume and your time.
