fil5117 got a reaction from GeneralSneers in British Accent Help?
My British accent is quite good ... though I am English, so that helps a lot
I'm not brilliant at emulating accents but what I do is try and identify the differences in how the people pronounce the different words. Pick a word that's particularly strong sounding e.g. a Northern Irish friend of mine has a strong accent, he pronounces tower as tar so you take the word and try and see what makes it different. Then you can try applying those rules to other words.
I'd say pick an actor you like and try emulate their voice. Don't pick Sean Connery whilst British he's Scottish and they have a strong accent of their own, also avoid Manchester (pop group Oasis), Liverpool (Beatles), London (Blur or Michael Caine) which have strong regional accents. The stereotype British officer is upper class, and educated, as such no matter where they're from they are taught to pronounce their words correctly, without accent - which actually becomes an accent in itself.
I'd suggest watching British war films and listen to the officers, or costume dramas and listen to the rich people, or any of the TV Agatha Christie episodes.
Actors who have good accents Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings), Hugh Grant and Colin Firth (in Love Actually), Rupert Everett (he does plenty of period dramas), Richard Attenborough (Miracle of 34th Street), Patrick McNee (the Avengers)
To be honest I'd find it hard emulating their accents, but you'll get the idea of how you're trying to sound.
My trooper American accent is pretty bad, I just end everything with sir and maam.
Hope this helps.
AVOID THE DICK VAN DIKE ACCENT

fil5117 reacted to tristanuk in RotJ Scanning Crew - Black gloves question
Hi Alberto,
These gloves have the incorrect "pinched" lines. If you wish to have the three lines, the seam shouldn't be shown.
Here is an example of what what i mean.

Is there any reference for the double bar on a staff officer? Other than the Palitoy / Kenner figure? If it's in other media then it, when enough reference, then it should be accepted ... it not then it should be raised again. What's the point of having something we know has no basis in the Star Wars universe?

fil5117 reacted to PArmstr in Warrant Officer / Staff Officer / Bridge Crew gloves
I am going to post the refences in here.
There were two types of gauntlets used in ANH. The first one was the pilot gauntlets that the TIE-fighter-pilots and X-Wing-pilots used. Thes gauntlets flare out a lot and gave seams on the back of their hands.
The second type of gauntlets was used by the navy troopers in dress uniform and the warrant officer. I call does vintage biker gloves. They do not flare out as much as the pilot gauntlet. They do not have any type of stitching or seams on the back of the hand. Instead they have a closure strap on the wrist.
In the ESB scanner and bridge crew did not wear gloves. The line officers had plain short leather gloves that had no seams or stitching on the back of their hand. There were no warrant officers in ESB.
The navy troopers in ESB had gauntlets that had a similar form to ANH but they did not have the closure straps.
In ROTJ the line officer, warrant officers and the IN in dress uniform wore leather gloves that went past the wrist and had stitching on the back of the hand. All gauntlets in ROTJ seem to have been pilot gauntlets. They all flare out a lot.

Here's a picture of mine, loops short so they hug the belt. Silver rivets to secure the loops, molded shape to hug the blaster. Stitching with no rivets.

fil5117 got a reaction from HelenK in Third hand information from John Mollo regarding Officers
I was discussing the officer uniform on another forum - when Peter Briggs a screenplay writer who's currently developing Panzer 88 with Gary Kurtz made this comment:
"I remember that John Mollo told me that his intent with the "Black Officers" was to make them Vader's personal troops…they were Vader's very own "SS". I was surprised at that, as I always assumed they were simply a standard Imperial rank. Likewise, John told me that the white/cream uniformed guy in the Death Star conference was modeled after Goering, and he was meant to be a sort of Air Field Marshall of the Imperial Fleet. John took his job very seriously. I think it showed!"
I couldn't think where to put it, but I thought it was worth sharing, for those who hadn't heard it.

fil5117 reacted to Dader ID7021 in Rogue One ISB Officer CRL discussion
Hi all, I'd like to propose the following CRL. I've been working on a generic Rogue One ISB Officer based on Bozeden Jeems as seen in the visual guide. Since Jeems is wearing the same costume as Krennic does in his Flashback scene I think generic ISB officers could be added to the reference library just like the ANH ISB officer based on Yularens uniform.
CRL Suggestion
Imperial Hat, black
For 501st approval:
Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable. Gabardine style weave is most accurate. Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4" (101.6 mm) tall. Front and rear "flaps" overlap on the sides and are about 4" (101.6 mm) high. Front bill extends 3" down, decorated with 6 or 7 concentric stitches. Imperial Code Disk is positioned in the center of the front vertical flap.
For level two certification (if applicable): Code Disk has a notch detail on the outermost disk.
For level three certification (if applicable): Code disk exactly matches screen-used prop.
Tunic
For 501st approval: White wool or wool-like twill weave. Double-breasted with a left over right closure on the tapered yoke. Yoke wraps across the shoulder to the top shoulder seam. The standing collar has square corners and is 2" (5 cm) tall. Collar closes snugly and includes a modesty panel behind closure. Two code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket located half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole. Wrist length sleeves without decoration, cuffs or buttons.
For level two certification (if applicable): There is a dart of about 2" (50.8 mm) in the top center of the yoke. There is a seam running the entire circumference of the tunic, dividing it along a line hidden by the uniform belt. The back of the tunic has princess seams that run vertically and turn outward to intersect the arm-hole seam at the vertical center.
For level three certification (if applicable): Tunic must be secured on the right side by snaps or buttons, not Velcro. There is no topstitching visible anywhere and it must have a lining sewn in.
Rank Bar
For 501st approval: See the Imperial Rank Bar page for more information. Worn on the left side of the tunic over the heart. Rank consists of colored plastic tiles mounted on metal bar. Each bar is 1.3" (3 cm) height, length is determined by chosen rank Rank tile dimensions are 1/2" (12.7 mm)width x 3/4" (19 mm) height and about 1/8" (3.2 mm). Tiles are mounted with 1/4" (6.4 mm) spaces between them. Rank tiles are translucent.
For level two certification (if applicable): Belt box, code cylinder, and rank badge configuration is consistent with film canon officers.
Code Cylinders
For 501st approval: Two code cylinders are worn on the uniform, one in each cylinder pocket. Dosimeter style: True radiation dosimeters or exact replicas, with correct clip and blue top.
For level two certification (if applicable): Dosimeters have a silver, non-brass, clip
Belt
For 501st approval: The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or leather-like material. It is approximately 2" (50.8mm) tall. The belt is loopless. A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle. The belt is worn with the snap on the left of the wearer. The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal or metal-like material. The buckle size is approximately 2 1/2" (65 mm) high and 4" (100 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners. Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center. Refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.
For level two certification (if applicable): Belt is made of leather. Between 2" (50.8 mm) and 3" (76.2 mm) tall. Buckle has a slight horizontal curve. Belt has a groove 1/4" from the top and bottom edge along the length of the belt.
Jodhpur Trousers, black
For 501st approval: Fabric is a medium weight suiting material, the weave matches the tunic material. Flared riding breeches are canon, with semi-stiff flares to the hip/thigh area. Breeches are worn neatly tucked into tall boots. If pockets are included they are not visible with the tunic on.
For level two certification (if applicable): Flare is more triangular in shape than other officers Pants are made from a wool twill.
Officer Boots
For 501st approval: Knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or leather-like material. Rubber is not acceptable. PVC or synthetic material is allowed as long as it gives the appearance of leather. There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration. Boots have conservative heels. If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft. Not visible from the front, side or back. The top of the boots may be flat or Spanish Style, but not Cowboy or Super Hero (pointed at the front) style.
For level two certification (if applicable): Boots do not have a zipper.
For level three certification (if applicable): Boots are made of leather. Not vinyl or PVC. Exact replicas of English riding (dress) boots or Equestrian boots.
Gloves
For 501st approval: Black, wrist length gloves constructed of a non-textured leather or leather-like material. Gloves have a plain back and no visible adornments
For level two certification (if applicable): Gloves have a button on the palm at the wrist Gloves made of leather Gloves end just past the wrist

Of course, main question is, would my costume be approvable as a generic Rogue One ISB officer?

If You are interested on great comm pads replica - in black or white vacuformed ABS (I have bought 2 black to replace my and my wife old resin comm pads, and they looks great and have the right size and details), I have a friend who makes them.
on the first picture You can see a batch run.
I have asked him a link to share here, if someone is interested.
Here is the link, if interested.

Normally I'd agree with the ease things in slowly approach. When the CRL was written the information was good with the knowledge we had to hand at the time, now we know different. I'd say it's more confusing to ease the change in, just do it. As a GML I'd say use a degree of common sense and be flexible with people who had started costumes before the changes were made.

fil5117 got a reaction from Risvang in Commander Nahdonnis Praji konfig
As the current Deployment Officer, and the person who wrote the ANH costume configuration post. I thought I'd best weigh in here, even though I'm a little late - Deployment Officer duties keep me extremely busy.
When I originally drew up the list of Officer configurations I used a number of additional sources to fill the gaps where the details weren't seen in the film. There were references which showed Praji with gloves, holster and blaster, but not from canon sources. After someone questioned how do we know if he a blaster when we couldn't see it on screen, I changed these details to be optional.
This is where the confusion has arisen, once they were listed as 'mandatory', now they are listed as 'optional'. Basically, at Imperator level we are looking for you to produce as an accurate and authentic costume as you can. We also love people who discover details we have never noticed, and we really like people who put the time in and research the uniform, and understand the subtle nuances.

fil5117 got a reaction from kman in Alternate style code cylinders clarification
The officer in that picture is Alan Flyng, he had a unique code cylinder. Which is different to the others, and is a one off. I know this as fact through speaking to him, and the fact he still has it As a GML I wouldn't allow this it's a non standard Line Officer. At base clearance we're looking for the standard not the exception.

These were the approved code cylinder from a previous CRL pic.
This Bast and Tagge code cylinders are a little narrower and don't have a raised section.
