  1. That's got to be a first? Both Legions declining a costume as neither see them as suitable? Weird!

Surely a 'face' version in the form of Elia Kane should be allowed on the 501st side of things? Precedent has been set for face characters wearing generic uniforms in the past- FO Hask for example?
I'd say the Rogue 1 Ground Crew also fits in a similar grey area as it is very much so associated with Jyn Erso, Gloves and boots notwithstanding.

  2. I can't speak to the quality of their Officer gear, but in regards to WhimsyCosplay I'd err on side of caution and stay away.
Last year we had a potential recruit interested in joining up with a Bo Katan. She'd gone ahead and bought everything before touching base with us. Her soft goods were from Whimsy. The pics on their site looked pretty darn good,..but looked NOTHING like the flightsuit she actually received. None of the stitching detail was correct- most was missing! Leather strips were missing too, overall fit was poor.
And of course, me being the GML I ended up the bad guy having to tell her the hard truths....

  3. There's also a Deathstar Gunner variation with ribbed leather jacket worn under the chest "pauldron".

And without trying to throw the cat amongst the pigeons,..would BHG have a stake in this costume too seeing as it is Mandalorean armour? Helmet, chest plate, vambraces and knee pads are all Mando styled.....

  4. I adored the '03 version. Yes..very stylised and over the top but it knew it and just rolled with it. Thst was part of the appeal to me. It had some great set-pieces and introduced some great concepts-like Kenobi in armour :D and didn't suffer from the same lows as the '08 series sometimes did. Episodes like Padme and the poisoned school milk, and 3PO buying a mango for example!

  5. This has always been a wee bit of a bug bear of mine. As per the rules..non-members cannot buy branded clothes..but to become a member one needs to clear a cossie. But most recruits, before and during their first build like to crew/spot/wrangle to get to know folks, the set up,the mission. So they can't buy a shirt to wear while doing so. It's an understandable rule..but a frustrating one.
In the past I've gifted or loaned a shirt or two to new recruits or their partner to wear while helping,as have a few other gsrrison mates- nobody has ever had an issue with it so don't worry about it.
    And have fun!

  6. Although there will likely be a fair amount of disagreement on this forum due to the open face nature of the cossies, I think a big part of why folks prefer the Imperials over the Rebels(at least in costuming terms) is down to the anonymity given due to the armour and helmets.

I will be the first to admit my open face costumes see fewer outings than the lidded ones because of this. Being "hidden" by a full face helmet is a great way to boost ones confidence and forget ones inhibitions.

I have the utmost respect for Officers,Jedi, Xwingers etc for being confident enough to be 'on show' in public..and for the great job they do being more approachable to an excited but timid kid and coaxing them to come closer..but I just love being a faceless minion..somewhat intimidating and mysterious.

But as to the main question...it's just simple...bad guys are always gonna be cooler than the goodies 90% of the time in fiction. Be it movies, comics, games etc...they always have the cooler outfits..the best gadgets...the fancier toys than the heroes. Except for when it comes to Batman!

  7. Yeah..odd placement for sure. I'd have thought given it's similarities and shared components to have seen it placed either in IOC or ACD. The important thing is it went somewhere I guess.

  8. By that logic..this costume should therefore go to FISD? The character shares the same function and role as a Stormtrooper-ie basic frontline infantry grunt cannon fodder.

The point is..and this was raised during the Shoretrooper issue( and will be raised over and over again) the Detachment system as it currently is structured is flawed...and there are many, many cossies who could or should perhaps be rehomed. Some have even argued for the amalgamation of some Dets.

But that is a topic for another forum..for folks waay above our paygrades to iron out.

  9. So then..that raises the question of "What's the point?" Why be in Det X if you are just gonna end up on Det Y for info?

I don't disagree that character function is relevant to det affliation..I just see Cossie construction as the more appropriate way to define it.

  10. I disagree. Who better to advise and guide new recruits in their builds than the folks who know the base costume inside and out?
If job role alone dictates which detachment a character goes to...hypothetically speaking should the Solo spinoff introduce us to a new kind of, I dunno, bodyguard who wears full TK armour, but with a red cape and a Forcepike...you'd insist Sovereign Protectors home the cossie, despite as a detachment having no real experience with TK armour build techniques, vendors, assembley? Especially compared with the wealth of knowledge on FISD? Just because it's job role is akin to the Royal Guard?

  11. Therein lies the "problem" with the Detachment affliation process as it currently is...does the characters job role trump costume build itself? The same issue applies to the Inferno Squad...it's a modded TIE..so logically JRS would be its home due to the experience they have with constructing that cossie...but if they can be described as Spec Ops..then that Det can make a legitimate claim...despite not having the experience of building the lid..chestbox...etc.

This dude is basically made from shared pieces like a Snowie dome, Snowie chest, TIE boots, Officer belt and so on. One could argue for it to belong to any number of Dets on cossie build alone...

  12. Re: Han's salute. Luke used a similar motion earlier on at the Sarlaac as a signal to R2..and Sabine has been seen in a few PR shots for Rebels also using a similar action..so I can see an arguement being made for it to be the in universe equivilent of a salute.

But what about the guy in ANH who signals to Luke(as TK421). He gives what I would consider a 'salute'..though admittedly more as an acknowledgment than a proper salute.

  13. That's precisely why those measurements should not be on the CRL..or at the very least should have a caveat that they are to be proportionate to the build of the costumer. Putting a measurement in black and white will only cause issues imo. Folk will read it must be xxxinches..build it to xxxinches..and end up looking like they are wearing their dad's shirt.
Verbiage on the CRL needs to be carefully considered.

  14. The groups identify themselves as "good" and "bad" in a rather black & white way, which is why I was saying that the Tuskens are never seen as being remotely good so they really shouldn't be seen in the RL. I know people who are in both groups with the same costume, and they always tell me to join the RL as a raider... and I feel it's just wrong! :)

Explain Rex then...he hardly qualifies as a "bad guy" under any criteria, yet is proudly counted as a 501st character.

Regards to Tuskens..jawas..etc...they are accepted by both groups because they are basically neutral factions.
