  1. Some additions or modifications depending on the level of detail you are going for:

    • The front yoke has a slight point at center front, is flush against the costumer and has a seam down the front center which is top stitched on either side.
    • The back yoke is flat, not pointed like the front yoke, and also lays flush against the costumer's back.
    • The edge of the poncho has approximately 1 inch seam hem around all edges, which are top stitched at the edge of the hem facing as well as very close to the outside edge of the poncho.
    • There is a seam at the center back of the cape part of the poncho, which is top stitched on both sides.
    • The collar is approximately 3 inches tall at the front and is top stitched with lines approximately every ¼ - 3/8 inch.
    • The front of the poncho has a piece panel attached to the yoke but separate from the sides. <-- the technical term is plastron, but not sure if you want to use more specialized terms or keep it as basic as possible.
    • This panel extends down to just past the crotch area and is tucked in to the costumer's belt. The bottom edge of the panel is flat, not pointed. (or is it very slightly curved? i can't remember)
    • This panel has three lines of top stitching running parallel to the edge on both sides.

Alternately, instead of describing the location of alllll this dang top stitching, include something like:

    • Extensive top stitching is present throughout the poncho and closely matches references.

...this way a GML can just compare their applicant to the pictures.

  2. Hi Eduardo!  The double princess seams and extra darts you mention are indeed present on some tunics but they are not required for higher levels.  These are additional details that are present on a tunic from the LFL archives, which you can see in this thread from 2012:

Some of the "extra" details seen on screen that are not a CRL requirement at any level are:

    1. Double princess seams on the back of the tunic (seen on many OT green uniforms including the one pictured above, but not on Disney-era uniforms)
    2. Pairs of small darts on the back of the tunic skirt, near the outer princess seams (seen on the tunic pictured above, but too small to really be visible on screen)
    3. No side seam on the tunic below the waist seam (seen on the tunic above, Tarkin, other OT officers, but not on Disney-era uniforms)
    4. No princess seam on the front right side of the tunic where it snaps closed (seen on the tunic above as well as on OT officers)
    5. Darts above the waist seam on the side front panels of the tunic (seen on Rogue One and other Disney-era uniforms, but not on OT tunics)

For basic approval as well as Level 2/3 judging, only the written requirements on the CRL need to be met. You are of course welcome to include any or all of the extra details if you want. :-D They are completely optional and do not affect L1/L2/L3 clearance at all.

  3. Myfabrics is a good site (I've used them for Emperor robe fabric) and the color of the fabric you linked looks good.  My only concern with it would be since it's 100% cotton, it's going to wrinkle pretty easily, so care and upkeep of the uniform may get annoying.

I haven't used the fabric Joey posted either, but the color looks legit.  The listing says wool blend, which probably means wool/polyester, which means it should be decently wrinkle resistant.

  4. I've seen other CRLs with Pantone numbers specified.  (Hell, I've been involved in updating CRLs where the detachment specifically wanted to include Pantone numbers.)  If we are going to get that specific, we need to strongly emphasize that Pantone colors are to be used only as a recommendation in order to help convey a rough idea of the color we are looking for and are not a requirement in any shape or form.

Textile swatches are meant to be physically color matched in person, which will only happen if you have a GML who has spent their own money to buy a Pantone swatch, has cared for it according to Pantone recommendations so it is an accurate representation of the color, and is using the swatch to compare to an applicant's costume they are physically inspecting in person. (How often has that ever happened?)

The most likely scenario is that a GML is examining a photo of a color swatch with a photo of an applicant's costume, which introduces variables such as camera quality and white balance in the applicant photos, how the swatch and the applicant photos display on the GML's monitor (which is likely not color calibrated), the GML's unique perception of color, etc. For example, the swatch above on my uncalibrated monitor looks like a warm cream that's darker than Yularen's uniform in ANH, and isn't even close to the cool very pale grey of how I perceive Dedra's uniform on screen. I personally would not approve the screen worn costume if I was a GML who was told to only approve costumes that match the swatch above.

Anyone who's ever been to a paint store and torn their hair out trying to choose a shade of white knows how annoying this is going to be. :lol:

  5. For example, the ISB CRL states the following for the tunic:

    Quote

Princess seams are optional for Version One and Two tunics.

This tunic is somewhat infamous for being difficult to fit on any body that isn't a tube, since the lack of front princess seams makes it difficult to fit on a body with breasts or a trim waist, etc.  IIRC the originals didn't have back princess seams either because they were quickly made for a couple of background extras. We've made an allowance in our standards to account for the fact that bodies other than trim cylinder body types may want to wear this tunic, and fitting seams help make a tunic fit less like a sack on diverse body types.  Why not do the same here?

  6. I agree with the tailor's assessment.  Making a tunic fitted to look like the reference images without having any back seams (either using princess seams, center back seam, or just darts) is challenging, unless the body wearing the tunic is shaped like a cylinder.  You can take a little waist fullness out of the side seams to narrow the waist, but that will only go so far.  Without seams or darts you're still going to have fullness in the back and it will look blousey, like a tucked in dress shirt, which is definitely not what these uniforms look like.

While I'm definitely for making the costume look as accurate to the source material as possible, it can be a challenge with animated characters that don't have to exist in reality and are often drawn more simply for whatever reason. In this case it may be necessary to allow princess seams in the CRL...not to require their use, or prevent them from being used, but to leave it open to the individual similar to how some of our other officer CRLs don't require or prohibit them (at least not for L1).  Perhaps some language in the CRL specifying that "princess seams may be used on the back to allow for a proper fit"?

Going back how far?  I wouldn't mind certificates for some of my earlier clearances, before the certificates were started.  I don't know if we have signatures for everyone, though.  I have all the other certificates saved, so I'm good there. :)

Done x4!  The certificate template looks like it has only 2020 and 2021 signatures in it so I made your certificates with the current year's template.

Hi!  Our information is actually pulled directly from the Legion's records.  We can't edit that, because the form is filled in directly with information from the database.  So you'll need to update your information on the main Legion forums in order for this to change.  Sorry!

We can change whatever we want in the form. ;)  That's how I made the generic certificate I posted on Facebook last night.  I pulled the spelling of her name from her Imperator application, since it didn't match what was in the Legion database (which is how she wants it spelled on the certificate instead...my bad). I can update it no problem.

  9. To anyone who has achieved Executor or Imperator status and did NOT receive a certificate when their application was approved:

If you would like a certificate, please post the link to your application thread here.  I will then generate a certificate and post it in your application thread.

This also applies if anyone has a certificate with incorrect info on it (misspelled name, wrong award level, etc.).  If you would like a corrected certificate, please post your application thread link here and note what is incorrect on your certificate.

A caveat: the one limitation with the certificate template is I can only generate certificates with the names and signatures of the current administration (that's Bob as CO, Kalani as XO, and me as DO) on it.  So, if you were approved by a previous administration I will not be able to put their names and signatures on any certificate I generate for you.  Everything else about your application (TKID, name, award level, date) will be correct though.

Update!  Tristan has enabled the previous years' administration on the certificate form, so I will be able to generate certificates with the name of the DO who actually processed your application! (Assuming, of course, that your application is from last year.   If it's older than that or I can't find the name of your approver in the certificate template, I'll just generate a certificate with the current year's staff on it.)

And if you want a certificate but haven't yet applied...get to applying!!

  10. I guess I should note one minor caveat to the "film canon config" thing: there are some CRLs, such as the Line Officer, that do specify "Belt box, code cylinder, and rank badge combination is consistent with a film canon officer."  This is noted in the "Belt Boxes Original Trilogy" criteria (which is an optional accessory) since the L2 requirements list some additional specifics (ANH officers have belt boxes, ESB/ROTJ do not).  So even though I have no plans to judge *all* L3 applications to that "film canon officer" standard, if it's written into a CRL, and in this specific case if you state you're doing an OT officer config, I'll be judging to that standard.

From my perspective, this will hopefully be another thing for the CRL team to look at and tighten up/standardize in the coming year. :)

  11. Hi Timothy, were you able to get your pics uploaded to an external host so you can link them here?  Some folks have suggested imgur, or you can use Dropbox or any other free hosting site out there.  We'll need front/back/both sides/action shot photos of you in costume, as well as detail shots of all your parts per the thread linked above.  Thanks!

  12. Sorry for the delay on this!   I went ahead and judged your existing costume up to L3 on the Staff Officer (Non Saga) CRL.  The good news is most of your costume already conforms to the L1 requirements.  There are a couple L1 requirements that need to be met, as well as some optional L2/L3 options if you want to go that route.  Detailed list is below.  Let me know if you have any questions!

    Imperial Hat, Black

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Code disk is positioned in the center of the front flap, the code disk has no notch.
--> Your existing disk has a notch which is fine for L1 approval (L1 doesn't mention anything about notch vs. no notch).  No notch is only required for L2.  Easiest thing would be to have one of each and secure them with pins to the hat, then just swap when you need to.

    Tunic, Black

    No concerns.

    Rank Bar

    Basic approval:

Rank tile dimensions are approximately ½" (12.7 mm) width x ¾" (19 mm) height x 1⁄8" (3.2 mm) deep. - This is the OT/Mandalorian size.
--> I think this bar has OT size buttons so you are good to go there, but would be helpful to confirm.  The R1/Solo buttons are larger.

Rank tiles are translucent, rectangular, positioned side by side in a vertical orientation, and evenly spaced.
--> It's tough to tell from the photos if these buttons are translucent or not.  EAO (the manufacturer of the buttons that so many people use) makes translucent buttons (with the white insert) as well as opaque buttons so it could be either one.

    Code Cylinders

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Cylinders to have a silver, non-brass, clip.
--> Your code cylinders have brass clips. They are fine for L1 approval but need to be silver for L2.

    Gloves

    Basic approval:

Black, wrist length gloves constructed of a non-textured leather or leather-like material.
--> Need to replace gauntlets with wrist length gloves.

    Belt

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

Belt has a groove at the top and bottom edge along the length of the belt.
--> Belt needs edge grooves for L2 but is fine for L1.

    Jodhpur Trousers, black

Pockets are acceptable, although they are not visible with the tunic on.
--> No pockets visible, but back darts are visible.  Darts either need to be taken out (made smaller, not taken entirely out) so they are not visible below the bottom of the tunic, or pants pulled up and/or tunic pulled down so they are not visible.

    Officer Boots

    No concerns.

    Optional Accessories

    Belt boxes

    Dimensions are approximately  2" (50,8mm) wide by 3" (76.2 mm) tall by 1" x  (25,4mm) thick
--> Your boxes appear to be the larger OT size.  Need to be the smaller R1/Solo size.

Optional accessories not present / not judged: Rain Poncho, Trenchcoat, Holster, Blaster.
