There's only one OT "Staff Officer", the ANH 451-style one.   Pretty rare costume that was erroneously coupled together in the past with any black tunic officer.

My goal is for the only thing to show up when people Google or search any 501st forum is a post clearly stating not to support this individual. It is potentially damaging to the IOC and Legion in general when members leave reviews citing their membership and support, and members should be strongly deterred to avoid the perception that the Legion in any way approves of or is affiliated with this vendor. That game was made before any blue capped cylinders on screen ever had a silver clip.  I'd say allow both.  Game polygon for code cylinders is all sorts of whack anyways.

This has been talked about for 6 or so years, but we are finally pulling the trigger.
 
We are going to no longer allow Cosplaysky for Level 3 approval levels of olive colored OT uniforms.
The big reason is the shade of "olive" is way wrong. We will still black and white tunics since those colors are good.

Again, this is just a L3 restriction. They are still good for basic approval. This lets us have high standards, but not make us gate keepers. 
 
Like the FISD, we would put this in a Special Notes section at the top of the page and also mention it in the tunic/jodhpurs L3 sections of the CRLs.

God I thought I was the only one who notice. I agree with you. It looks like his code cylinder is a simple cylinder without any groove, so that the brass clip is free-floated and not in a consistant position.

But I won't put it into the draft CRL since there's no solid evidence, just speculation. And I wish that our CRL promote re-usability across similar characters instead of specification to one single character. After all, no two leaves are exactly the same in the world.

Just in time too, I have two troops this weekend with RL and I'm thinking about swapping one out to be my first 501st troop! 

We have been granted permission to start with this costume by the LMO office, however, they want the Star Wars galaxy references to be used for the build.  @soodohej this may require a major overhaul of what you have made.  I will see if we can get several of the LMOs to be involved here on out.

After making the post, somebody on the RPF sent me this picture. It nicely shows them side by side. 

Different than the honeyspoon?  Do you have a better picture/closure up?  I can't really see a difference.

That there are now MULTIPLE sources for this, I think we can roll with it.  I will put together the  request to the LMO office and see what they say.

These are screencaps from the old Star Wars Galaxies game.  Some notes before them:
The game NEVER showed Officers with rank badges or code cylinders.  Some servers later unofficially modded them to have those.  This was an old game though so there were limitations at the time.
ALL officers wore the same sorta-gray-sorta-not uniform.  They were obviously meant to imitate the on screen color but a feldgrau wasn't really possible at the time.
The "Death troopers" from their expansion all have wildly different appearances, and they created zombified versions of Scouts, AT-AT drivers, and all the main player species in the game.
 

 

 

 

 

 
 
Personal opinion: we should use these sorts of references as a thematic idea, but going exactly (IE: the belt had 2 holes!, damage at the pants just above both knees!) is really not a good idea for emulating the spirit of the costume.  These are low pixel low tech creations from a bygone era of games.

You look fantastic! ClothEars has been making great quality costumes for years and I'm glad to see more officers in them! Congratulations on your approval

I'd add on the list of safe alternatives, some red eyeliner along the lash line.  You might even use a very red eyeshadow just on your eyelids.  Then close your eyes for photographs.

It creates a VERY sinister appearance, and is quite unsettling, with no risk to your eyesight. 

 

IF you have seen a medical professional who has evaluated your eyes, and you're approved BY THEM for contact lenses, a red iris-changing lens sold by a reputable company and medically approved could be worn.
 
DO NOT wear Sclera lenses.  They can damage your eyes to the point of loss, and quickly at that, if improperly fitting or bad reaction to them.  It's not worth the risk.
 
My advice; photoshop your eyes in pictures in costume.  Everyone in person will know you're Thrawn, and you don't risk your safety.

Agreed on the sclera - having the red eyes is a nice touch, but not super necessary.
I am a long time contact lens wearer (20 years now) and have always found them comfortable, but I did try out coloured contacts for a time and they take a little getting used to as they slightly obscure your vision. Imagine having a cloudy ring around the edge of your vision and you can get a feel for how they are. I personally found them more trouble than they are worth, but if you want to give them a go, head in to your local optometrist and they will be able to help.
 
Also as Alay says, I cannot stress enough about not just buying some off the internet. Shows and TV have access to the very best, and are almost always custom for the actors. Even then, there are many cases of the actors talking about how grim their experiences are sometimes and they're only wearing them for a short time. In your case, as I imagine you'll be looking to spend significant time in costume throughout a day, comfort is of paramount importance with things as precious as your eyes.
 
On another note, have you gotten together the rest of your Thrawn outfit? Would love to see what you've got so far!
