***Incoming Transmission***
The day has come, the new Mark IV version of the Grand Admirals Baton is finished! This time I made it even more elaborate and closer to it's historical "ancestors" with it being covered in velvet lining crowned with A LOT of ornaments. Of course there are not so many symbols used by the Galactic Empire as there were for the Monarchys of old Europe which used e.g. Crowns, Eagles, Crosses, Anchors, etc... on their batons. But luckily we have a design of the Symbol of the 7th Fleet which was very convenient as I do also portray Grand Admiral Thrawn, the commanding officer of said Fleet. So I decided to alternate between the Imperial Cog in gold and a slightly smaller version of the 7th Fleet symbol in black around the middle staff. I placed the same symbols on the end pieces, this time in white colour.
The top and bottom are each equiped with a silver inscription on a golden band, saying "Imperial Grand Admiral" on the top and my ID Number and Name on the bottom.
As all new Batons this one is also 38cm long which is quite a decent size.
Final steps are now to make a new box and to take a few pictures in uniform
I hope you enjoyed the insight into my crafting hobby
Long live the Empire!

The work has continued and for the first time I also used a velvet fabric for the baton, as it was used on many of it's historic examples:
Glueing the velvet on was easier than I expected, but still a challenge. However in the end I was very pleased with the result of my first try and the fabric feels really nice around the wooden core.
After that I started to glue the imperial cog and 7th Fleet emblem to the fabric:
The ornaments were all lasercut by a friend from germany and hand painted by me, it took me a few hours on the picture you can see the backside where the seams of the fabric meet, as well as the seams of the inscription bands at the top and bottom. It does not align 100% but I'm still very satisfied, as this was also my first try and well you only get one try
Last but not least, I visited the Museum of Militar History in Vienna last weekend and saw some historical batons on display, which was very cool to see like the "original" ones that inspired me many years ago:
They are both from the period of the Austrian Empire before 1918
So far so good, thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed, the work will go on
For the Empire!

As I had a lot of fun making the Batons for Bob and Christopher I finally decided to re-make my own baton. Two weeks ago at Vienna ComicCon I did wear my Grand Admiral Uniform again since a very long time and I thought it would have been really cool to have my Baton with me, as I saw some fantastic trooping pics of Christopher with his Baton on Facebook.
The new Baton will now also be of larger size, almost 40cm, compared to the old one with not even 30cm size.
I already painted A LOT of ornaments (thankfully now Lasercut, so amazing, saves me a ton of time) and the end pieces:
They will be covered with a golden circle lasercut from cardboard to hide the screws and the hole, with the Imperial Cog on top.
Now I'm waiting for some more lasercut parts so I can continue
For the Empire!

No matter who spot it first, thanks for your contributions!
Let's get to the holster part(we're almost done). Not much of the detail we can add for now.
Holster
- Black in color and constructed from leather or leather like material.
- When possible the holster is made from same material as the belt.
- Holster has one belt loop, made of the same material as the holster.
- The holster is long enough to extend past the hem of the tunic.
You can use my picture of the holster for the CRL if one is needed.

That's correct. Nice reference, but absent confirmation, it's only good for fun while cosplaying for Halloween or a Con, not the CRL.
If someone manufactured (3D printed?) that top bit and slapped it on top of a Healthways Plainsman base and kept it holstered, however... that does match onscreen reference. FWIW.
That's what I did the past two weeks, as we can only see the handle in "Ahsoka".

I'm getting to the pants section soon. I don't know how to describe that either. Maybe someone who's farmiliar with tailoring terms could help?
8 hours ago, Theblueguy808 said:Honestly it just looks like the trousers are twisted inward. My trousers do that sometimes and I gotta try to twist them back.
To me it looks very much like the outer seam of the pants that got twisted inward just like @Theblueguy808 said. It would make absolutely no sense to make a seam there or tailor the pants like this.
In my opinion they are just like any other breeches we've seen.

Should we have adjustment holes as the optional requirement? Not sure if that is mentioned in any other CRLs.
I think if they are added to the CRL they should be optional, the Tarkin CRL doesn't have them either and I think he had them in Ep. IV.
4 hours ago, Riva said:Very good question indeed, as we can only see the handle maybe just refer to that and the Healthways Plainsman design. Maybe we get some bts footage or additional material to work with or to update the CRL later.

You've got a point. I did find it there, maybe we can re-use it.
- Optional: Up to two (2) hooks may be added through the sides of the tunic to hold belt in place. Hooks must be black.
7 hours ago, Detaleader said:I don't think two hooks are accurate. I can spot 3 alone on that screenshot in the OP, and that's without a back view.
4 hooks at least, if not 6 if there are also 2 two on the backside. But I didn't yet have time to re-watch "Ahsoka" and find out.
Optional sounds good, as it says the same for Dedra Meero, which I didn't know until now

What do you think of the belt hook? Should they be mentioned in the belt section or the tunic section?
Perhaps add it to the Belt Section, like "Belt is secured with 6 belt hooks" or so just my 2 cents
Making it a basic requirement or L1 requirement could be discussed.

The belt looks quite standardized. So I copy it from Tarkin's CRL.
Belt - The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material.
- Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width, up to 3" (76.2 mm) is acceptable.
- There are no loops on the belt.
-
A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle.
- The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the buckle.
- The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material.
- The buckle size is approximately 2 ⅛" (66.7 mm) high and 4 ⅛" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
-
Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center.
- Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): - Belt is made of leather.
- Snap is worn to the left of the wearer.
- Buckle has a slight horizontal curve.
The belt does also have a groove on the edge like Krennic

Anyone worry about getting the paints onto the collar?

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI use the same trick, simply using the modified collar of an old dress shirt, works like a charm

Hallo zusammen,
Stefan

Little update from the Imperial Baton workshop
I just recently made a new Grand Admiral Baton as a commission for Christopher @Amadeus98
I also made two batons for Bob @buckrogersbarker two years ago, but I never showed them to you, so here we go, I'm sure Bob doesn't mind:
They are slighty larger than the first version, they are 36cm long and have just one octagonal end piece, I call them the Mark II Version.
The latest version again got a few updates, compared to my prototype from already six (!!) years ago, I can't believe it's that long.
The Mark III Baton is now 38cm long (still not as gigantic as its historical ancestors, but large enough to make an impression). It got two octagonal end pieces again, like the prototype, the imperial cogs are now lasercut which saved me at least five hours worktime (the laser needs 15 sec for one cog, by hand it takes 15 min) and I loved it! The materials are again beechwood and acrylic paint.
This time I also made a cardboard box with a blue velvet lining which turned out really nice in my opinion
I'm thinking about updating my personal Baton too and crafting myself a new one. There are already a few ideas in my head for a future Mark IV version
But until then - long live the Empire!

but the regular adhesive on the back doesn't do the job. be careful with superglue.Well if you have two strips for your southern neighbours (aka Austria) it would be great

Hello there,
great you are aiming for the L3 approval!
There are no regulations regarding the lining, you can use whatever fabric you like, for example these are some of my tunics:
Good luck with your uniform!
