    Hi guys

Possibly the most off topic of all off topic threads! But I noticed that there were 501st generic facebook profile frames, and Rebel Legion ones and stuff. So I looked into it and there wasn't an IOC frame! aaaaand then I made one.

Should be able to find and apply it by searching ioc or imperial officer corp in the frame application bit!

I can only agree, the easier a CRL can be read, the better it can fulfill it´s purpose. So regarding the staff officer CRL i Support the idea of splitting it up in two.

So, here is my thought.  To tweak the semantics (not requirements) of the code cylinder text just a hair for clarity, and to update the image to show a great representation of each of the 4 allowed styles.

Costumers have a far better idea of what to aim for / make, and GML's have a better idea of how to judge.  Both being visual creatures

Higher accuracy / looking-good-stuffs are then promoted, without actually being restrictive.

There are a large number of components within Star Wars costuming which are going to require a costumer seeking out someone with a specific skill set, getting put on waiting lists, and shelling out a large amount of money to get "that exact piece they need". If a chalk holder is a really good stand-in, looking the part for not a lot of money, and is able to be brought up to scratch with some modifications that any novice to making stuff can do themselves, I'm for keeping it in. I think everyone who has upgraded to real or replica has done so happily and with no regrets that they spent the $3 or so on their chalk holders initially?

I think at this point we're arguing the toss as somewhere in here it was confirmed they'd be staying in for the foreseeable? But yeah.

Not necessarily too picky.  Those sorts of things are handled (a lot of the times) in L2/L3 higher accuracy detailing.  Which, ultimately, is one of the reasons behind why one might want to make a particular source reference its own CRL series.

Which is pretty much what you're saying, I think.

I think because of the differences it's worth to make at least a section with "451-Style Specific Requirements" like it was added for the R1 ISB Officer requirements.
A whole new CRL? Not sure, because only the tunic is different. If yes, then also a separate CRL for the R1 ISB, because to me it's theoretical the same sort of difference.

    Just my humble opinion.

As one that has been studying to pursue an Imperator level ANH Staff officer (I'm mildly OCD.....which sorta sucks for costuming), it makes a lot more sense to have the CRLs separated or at the VERY least have the two pieces listed as "options"/variants.  Thanks to the help of a few, I hope to have a start on requesting submissions for Executor and Imperator levels in very short order once the ball gets rolling.  I'm thinking I definitely want to start with the ANH staff officer...because of the challenges that it presents.

One needs to unserstand it's history if he wishes to reproduce them. And most of the details have been saved throughout the ANH-reanimating-process. So I think we should be aware of all the details we can capture. Won't hurt anyway

    Anywho.

Can the chalk cylinders be made to look good ?  Yes.

Then the applicant should be worked with and guided to how to make the things look good.  GML's passing horrible looking chalkholders isn't the fault of the standard, per se`.  Should the language used be looked at to help tighten the gap on what is a "bad" chalkholder and what isn't?  Maybe, and worth consideration.

From my point of view its a cost/time thing, I have lost count of the amount of times I have recommended to new recruits replica cylinders and push button bars for them to go with chalk holders/plexi, then when they see what the rest of us are wearing want to get the same which takes more time and money (Yes ive seen the above thread but opinions differ) however saying that there was talk before of removing chalk holders completely but because as James has said there are not enough places to buy the compromise was to allow for modified chalk holders which to me until more availability was fair.

I want to address something I keep seeing brought up - "it's more expensive to upgrade later" - And?

We allow Pleather boots that have zippers.  The cost difference between those and real English Riding boots that are fit to your calves is several hundred dollars USD - I imagine it's even more in some other places.  Yet no one is suggesting we eliminate all boots other than real English Riding Boots because it's "more expensive to upgrade later."

While I appreciate that many people want to go for L2/L3, everyone ELSE must appreciate that there is a good portion of the 501st that simply wants a costume - in our case for officers, the most common one I hear is "something I can sit in."

IMHO, the rule at L1 should be "at 15-20 feet can the average person tell the difference?" - with the Chalk holders, if done correctly per the CRL, no, they cannot.  So what exactly is the big deal?

Just my personal opinion, but chalk holders seem to do the job. They're a quick, cheap, easy to obtain fix for a faffy part of certain costumes.
And this is coming from me! I'm normally a big stickler for accuracy! So long as the cylinders are -present- and you've made an effort to match the tops (painted blue for Krennic etc) and the clip (brass or silver etc) then I don't see the issue?

This is pushbuttons required for basic all over again, when plexiglass works completely fine and they are far more widely manufactured. And even then, the list of trusted makers of plexi-plaques is still a short one.

I feel that stuff like this is absolutely what the level 2 and 3 req's are for. All components and design elements of a costume should be present at level one, with a "good enough" bar set for quality. Level 2 you can start requiring screen used -or- exact replicas. Level 3 for the crazies who want to fork out £30+ each for actual dosis, if they can even find them.

Lets not make this any harder than it really needs to be? This is an expensive hobby at the best of times.

    Again, just my opinion.

Rambling is fine!  I ramble a lot!

To address  the Rebels thing ... Right now, all we've had people try to replicate are Rebels' face characters specifically, so they tend to get a new CRL anyway. We could attempt to create a "generic Rebels" whatever, but my first thought is: I personally feel it would be an exercise in frustration.  Like, it seems every single Imperial Officer character has at least one thing different from the others.  No, I've not studied them all in detail to determine for sure.  And I really don't want to talk about the olive that isn't olive-grey but is a weird painful olive-brown that Tarkin wears   I am open to discussion and thought on that, however, should someone actually produce a proposed "Rebels Generic Whatever".  We've got on for Rebels Staff pending resubmission, so my pondering on it may get stepped up soon.

That being said, there are enough differences in Rebels officer appearances to warrant separate CRL's in my mind, and it has nothing to do with the seams and their placement.  Not sure where that nugget came from, but from an LMO perspective, the Rebels' center back seam really is meaningless.  And we don't require it for L1. even when present on the source, cause some don't have it.   It's nice to have the CRL Model with one if it is present on the source, but even that isn't required.  On the flip side, back princess seams, while most definitely not present in the source material, are perfectly ok if present.  For L1.  I would like to repeat myself more on that account as I have heard murmurings otherwise, which are not true.

The differences that *do* stand out to me are:  the Reb rankbar has noticeably rounded corners, the belt has a distinctly different Imperial Disk on the buckle on the buckle and hat, and there is a distinct collar and hat insignia.

Certainly, one could say that all those differences could be addressed in L2/3 ... and just add in the Rebels specific rankbars, and disks as optional accessories maybe?  I am less comfortable with that.  Another LMO might have a different opinion, and take things in a different direction, if I am not around next year, but that one is mine

I don't think you have much to worry about there.  If you look at my answer more carefully, I state that there was a breakdown of communication at that time, but I felt that it has been resolved since then.  As in, yes, something was broken communication wise.  It's been fixed well before now though.  That isn't to say that communication cannot always be improved!  It can.  A rolling "IMPENDING CHANGES RAWR" thread might be beneficial, although I kind of have that now with my ongoing worklist thread that I keep posted here.  Worth consideration, at any rate.

That particular forum has seen no action since April that was not already discussed / reflected in any of the detachment wide forums already.  Outside of a couple grammar correction requests.  And a BoStaff accessory addition request for the Kallus guy.

The work process flow that should be happening as in regards to CRL's I have already outlined elsewhere:  But it generally goes like this:

Detachment dreams it up, beats it up, comes to Consensus > Detachment Leader and XO  submit to LMO > LMO writes and/or edits, makes final arbitration, publishes.

Some Dets don't work exactly like that.  An LMO can insert themselves anywhere in that process to speed things up, if necessary.  I, personally, am completionist to a fault.  My tendency is to continually push to get things done and handled so I can go on to the next thing.  I also am far more hands on with the IOC than I am the other Dets I am assigned. But, admittedly, IOC has far more going on.   Sometimes this can be considered "too fast" and things may seem to happen too quickly.  Not everyone is able to get on the forums like myself or others can.   This is something for me to work on.

May i point towards the Imperial Bridge Crew CRL, I think that one has a nice overview of different combinations for the higher levels.

    Summary of L2 requirements:
All movie versions may or may not have belt boxes. ANH: No gloves or compad, has no code cylinders, no headset. ESB: Same as ANH, but with 3 code cylinders and may wear a headset. ROTJ: Has gauntlets and compad, but no code cylinders or headset.
Under the current CRL a costumer could go all the way and wear a headset, gloves, compad, belt boxes and code cylinders at the same time without conflicting the CRL for basic approval. Only at the higher level is a configuration decision required/mentioned.

This may not be the solution for all the crls but those where we have a large variety in combinations but not so extreme to warrant a dedicated CRL. This could be adapted to encompass background ''face'' characters for level 3 requirements together with blaster, code cylinder and belt boxes configurations.

This could also be seperated into Movies/Animated Series/EU.
