Right you are.  I meant could a zipper up the back be also added to it. As an either or.  Certainly not both.

I've no horse in the race, but if someone were to find a nice pair of leather boots that look the part except for a well hidden zipper on the back...
Again sorry for high jacking this thread.  And maybe this discussion was had.  Just putting it (back?) out there.

You can usually do well searching eBay or if you live in an area that has a Military Collectors Show you could find something there.  It is unfortunate about the zipper restrictions because you could find a nice equestrian pair to fit the bill...with so many examples that do have the zipper on the back...well hidden of course.  Happy hunting.

I don't think the powers that be will be changing the CRL anytime soon when it comes to zippers on boots.

"If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft. Not visible from the front, side or back."

No zippers on any of the Imperial boots in the OT but I do believe that I caught what may have been zippers in Rogue One...I will need to take a closer look.

Have you ever actually compared the price of adding a zipper in the back vs. the side, or are you just speculating?  Genuinely curious... I can't imagine why there would be much, if any, price difference.

Zipper on the inside is going to be far less noticeable than on the back.  There's a reason why the majority of zippered boots sold have the zipper on the inside.

I have used a couple of cobblers locally for various projects...I needed an inside zipper added to a pair of boots for my Star Trek uniform and it was stated to me by both cobblers that it would be much easier and less distress on the boot (design) to install the zipper up the back of the boot.  About 60% more in costs to have the zipper installed on the inside of the boot.  Of course, it was Star Trek and it needed to be on the inside.  When an invisiable zipper is installed on the back of the boot it is just that...nearly invisiable.  Plus...you actually need to be behind the person wearing the boots to even have a chance of noticing a zipper...whereas, boots with the zipper on the inside your profile coverage is much greater especially when you are walking.

  4. What is not approvable?  Oh, I think that you must be referring to the lose gap in the collar (?). Yes.  A wardrobe malfunction. ;)  I think that the military refers to that as a "gig" line.  An imaginary vertical line that disects the center of the body...the uniform dress.

    To expand upon JakePiett's thoughts;

Is there evidence in the form of a screen grab, showing an officer wearing riding boots with a zipper of any kind?

I can't imagine that something like that would have gone unnoticed for this long, but you never know.  I've never seen any while watching, but I've also never went frame by frame looking.

I will have to say that in all likely hood 100% of the officer boots seen on screen are military boots with no zippers.  The only reason why I bring attention to this is because there are wonderful examples of equestrian boots with the zipper up the back so for someone to seek out a cobbler to install a zipper to the inside of the boot is money out the window.  Mind you, the appearance of the zipper on the back of the boot is barely visible...if at all.  That said, with both options not screen accurate and given the choice...IMO, a zipper up the back of the boot is the better choice.  Just saying.

Zipper cannot be on the back, per the CRL:

" If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.

    • Not visible from the front, side or back. "

To be sure...but what I find is interesting when it comes to CRL's...that it's decided that the zipper must be on the inside of the boot when having a zipper on the inside is NOT screen accurate as is having it going up the back of the boot...so that the hells the difference?

  7. Hello.  I am happy to jump on board here.  Celebration Six was my first "official" outing as the Govenor but I have been out and about for a few years...once I picked up a Museum Replicas uniform.  I have been in the Legion for nearly twenty years now as TK172.  Some may know me as the Stormtrooper who walked the west coast, from Rancho Obi-Wan to Comic Con in 2015.  I just received my ANOVOS uniform so I imagine that Celebration Eight will be my first outing in the new uniform.  I look forward to the time when we can all gather in one place. ;)

  8. I'm not sure what is reflected in URL's as far as the placement of zippers...only that I know that it is not screen accurate to have zippers on the inside of the boots.  Heck, for that matter, it's not screen accurate to have a zipper period.  But if it were my boots I would want the zipper up the back...only because that was the method used on authentic boots...if a zipper was used at all.  Plus it's just more pleasing...to my eyes anyway. ;)

  9. Oh no...I am thrilled with the premier uniform...it's just that (not only with mine) I have noticed with all of the examples that I have seen thus far that the collar is pretty wrinkled up...I guess sagging is a good word to use here.  On screen the collar is quite stiff with an ever so slight looseness to them.  In the end it's really what is in the interest of the costumer and their likes.  It is disappointing as far as the seam considering that it is such a visual distraction now that I am aware of it.  Lol

I'm actually wearing a turtleneck so my neck compresses a bit comfortably for the collar, and also because CosplaySky left a sizable gap underneath the hooks the shows through to the skin below. Otherwise yeah, the only issue I have with the entire uniform is with the boots. Deke did a great job stretching them but I think they're beyond salvagable. I need to either get zippers put in on the inside or sell the boots entirely.

If you are planning on the zipper route...I would have the installed going up the back of the boot.  I have seen this on (some) original vintage Officer boots in addition, it's a much easier fix for the cobbler opposed to adding the zipper to the inside.

  11. Prior to receiving my ANOVOS uniform I had worn a Museum Replicas...same situation there...the collar was not stiff enough.  The solution...open up the vertical seam of the collar in the front (where the right and left meet) and insert a thin gage styrene and then close up the seam.  This worked perfectly so I will do the same here with the ANOVOS uniform.

You know, it actually does look pretty good.  Makes me wonder what the Premier looks like, if the Standard is that good.  Those pants look great already, the cut of the tunic looks very nice, really the only thing that could be changed is the sleeve length.  Otherwise, it's good to go!  Looks and sounds like a purchase well worth it.

The premium is wonderful.  I have not yet had the entire ensemble on...I want to have all of mods done first and they are, a dry clean to take out the wrinkles and creases, make my rank badge and stiffen up the collar just a tad.  I have noticed that there is no horizontal seam on the front panel...odd to me since ANOVOS had claimed that the uniform was designed after Tarkins.  Oh well.
