Prior to Yavin there were Grand Moff and Grand Admiral ranks, although Moff is more Political than Military it seems.
We know that Thrawn is MIA and, with the destruction of the Death Star, Tarkin is KIA.  There also is the possibility that most of the rest of the Joint Chiefs were still aboard the Station, save for Tagge.
Thereby, Tagge would in theory be the highest ranking officer of the Military.  So, to me, it doesn't seem a stretch for The Emperor to create a new "Grand-grade" rank to reflect his Army status as opposed to granting him the rank of Grand Admiral or the title Grand Moff.
Just a thought of course

From the moment they reintroduced Ruhk, I was on pins and needles.  Thrawn was one of my favourite characters from the moment he came on the scene in Heir to the Empire, and I'm not really ashamed to admit that I cried when he was brought back in the season 3 trailer.
 
I remember talking about the possibility of his reintroduction with a couple of my co-workers in the weeks before Celebration London, and was beyond elated with the way he was revealed in the trailer.
 
I'm very interested to see what the future brings us for his character and can't wait for Alliances to come out this summer.

This is a great resource.  I've been a Scoutmaster with my troop for just about a year now and we're always looking for new ideas to keep the boys interested and excited for camp outs and activities.  Being a reenactor as well, it helps when the kids encounter something different from the norm.

Just finished issue #2, and honestly I don't know how I feel about it.  Granted my mind is in a thousand directions the last few days after starting a new job, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as the first issue.  I'll read them back to back as soon as time allows though.
 
Something that did stick out though, is Vanto is now officially a commissioned Ensign, yet wore no rank plaque.  Perhaps the one he wore in issue 1 was, in addition to the grey uniform, an indication of his status as a senior cadet?

That pun was almost physically painful.  I LOVED IT!!!!!

Perhaps there will be something in Solo that will really help us out in terms of the everyday Imperial military.
Off hand I vaguely remember a few references to salutes in the Canon books, but couldn't begin to say when and where (and very far be it on what pages).

I recall the left hand being utilized in an acknowledgement, if not a salute, by the officer who attempted to raise TK-421 on the comm onboard the Death Star.
There was also a salute/acknowledgement from a scout trooper in RotJ as I recall ("... take her back to base").
 
Does anyone recall the use of salutes in R1 at all?

We have the second issue coming into the local Comic/Game Shop this week.

Fantastic to FINALLY see some Navy Troopers in the show!!!

There may remain a question of power though, as it appears the reactor was destined (at least damaged).  There may well be emergency countermeasures that could have been triggered, given a number of the bridge stations seemed to be in operation.
Another possibility is the nature of the hyperspace lanes themselves.  It could be within the realm of possibility that there is a form of atmosphere while in hyperspace transit.  That is, of course, pure supposition on my part.
I do wonder how they survive, but I am beyond ecstatic that they did.
 
Who knows, maybe we'll see Ezra, Vanto and the Grand Admiral come to the rescue of the Resistance in Episode IX...

Once more Disney will rule the Galaxy, and we shall have peace.

For me, one of the best parts was the acknowledgement from Dave in Rebels Recon that certain characters are indeed alive.
