If you want to do a helmet and be very close to what is doing in the IOC I would recommend an Imperial Gunner.  It is functionally the same as a black uniformed crewman, but with a bib, balaclava and helmet.  If you want, you can get approved as a crewman with a black hat and decide as YOU want if you want to be a crewman or a gunner that day.  It does give you options until you are more comfortable.

Then you can do the deep dive into the other costumes here.

I think I will! I am going to buy all of the parts for the Imperial gunner, starting with the flight suit. than I will buy a Hat and Helmet and which ever gets here first will determine what I submit first. I have time, I turn 18 in September

I would really start with a helmet if you're anxious. Then, even if you're not feeling it, you don't have to play nice. People can't tell when you freak out. Anything with your face open is a lot harder. I'm dying to get something with a bucket done for when I'm just not feeling it. It's hard work being a face.

If I freak out, I can always take a break, my problem is I want to figure out a costume that will help me not freak out. I am thinking I will do a warrant Officer or Imperial Navy Trooper. I think this is best because I get a feeling of confidence in military uniforms. I also tend to freak out more the hotter I get.

there is an old saying "The clothes make the man".  Get one of these uniforms, put on the boots, don the cap, and you might find some of the anxiety will pass.

I know many people that do not like crowds that are transformed when they are in costume.  It may be costuming in general or the character they are dressed up as, but I have seen this more often than not.

I have heard that from the person who I went to my first event as NCS with. I was in Civil Air Patrol for a long time and have always felt more confident in uniform

Hello I too did not like to be in the publics eye, I started with a Stormtrooper and then an officer (which I only wore once) after a few more costumes and lots more time with the public I find I am more comfortable with a non helmet costume now and really enjoyed my last convention this weekend as an officer.

Have you looked through the 501st database of costumes? http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRLbyname

Yes, I have and I was drawn to the ISB by the look and the cost (cheaper than a Stormtrooper) And I love the Imperial Navy Trooper, I just worry that I'm going to freak out and shut down like I always do, Because I can be a jerk when that happens and I don't want to reflect badly on this great organization

  5. Hello friends,

I am here today to ask a very important question. What costume should I do? Let me give you some background:

I have major anxiety in crowds. I always have. I was thinking some kind of costume with full helmet covering my face, as this helps my anxiety. However, I do not want to be part of the Faceless billion (stormtroopers for those who don't know the term) so I was thinking tie pilot, either ANH or 181st. BUT, I LOVE the IOC's helpfulness and costumes in the sense of Military elegance. I would love to do an Imperial Navy Trooper, Imperial Crew, or an ISB Officer.

Please help as my anxiety kicked in with "What if I Don't actually like this costume?","What if its too hot?", etc...
