Are there any people planning on doing the imperial Officer Cadet from the Thrawn comic in the near future? If there are some, then it would be best for them to compile a CRL while creating their costume. We cannot publish a new CRL before we have photos of the costume anyway.

I'm planning on making cadet Eli Vanto for Awesomecon next month, and I know a few others are interested in it as well. Definitely something we can start working on!!

I cant remember, and I might be wrong, but perhaps @rattleandburn or @Tentayena may be taking commissions on Rebels Thrawn uniform? Be warned, I could be completely wrong there though.

That would definitely be @rattleandburn lmao
She made my First Order LT. though, and her quality is absolutely stunning~

As a fellow chiss costumer, however, I'm IN LOVE with those contacts though!!
Do they impair your vision at all?

  3. I absolutely loved it

I think it helped that if, a year ago, I was asked what I wanted from TLJ, what I said lined up pretty dang close to what actually happened. I loved the extra screen time to some of my favs, the references I got for costumes I want to build, and just more development for both sides of the war in general.  Some of the parallels that they threw in were spot on, and I was in tears multiple times on the first night.

The humor was a bit jarring at first, ( I asked my partner several times if a joke had just happened because I couldn't believe I had heard that) but I really did enjoy the jokes.

My literal only complaint was how long it was, because I kept almost falling asleep. But I think that's what happens when you're chronically ill and try to stay up past 11pm lol

  4. Okay, I'm actually home now, and can say MORE WORDS
    With PICTURES

Rank consists of one black band sewn down to the sleeve with “Tarkin” (for Major) or “Kaplan” (for Colonel) in aurebesh stitched on it. The edges are piped. Both piping and embroidery are white.

First thing I'm seeing, we have reference images showing that the edges of the rank bands are actually embroidered. I have not looked closely at the Major or the Colonel, but the General and Lt. were both embroidered. I'm of the opinion that piping should be allowed for L1, and embroidery for L2

For example, we have this image of the General rank bands, which indicate they aren't as solid as you would see with piping, and the seam lines are pretty obvious

Which would look like this close up
(this is from someone's costume, not the film, just using it demonstrate the stitch lines!)

There is a seam the entire circumference of the sleeves, it´s hidden on the left side by the rank insignia

I'm still looking specifically on the teal uniforms, but I do know that both the General and the Lt. both have this seam directly underneath the rank bands
EDIT: of course right after i hit submit, i actually see the cuff seam on the picture. It does appear to be under the rank band, like the rest of them!

    First Order is Extra.

But yes!! This is such a good start, I'm so happy to see more work being done on these guys~~

I am personally not as fond of allowing equestrian for FO L1, but it is by no means something I am hung on that makes me lose sleep.

I have to say I'm in agreement there. The FO officers have plenty of good references for the boots and the seams, zippers, sole, and toe differ wildly from the equestrian boots that are clearable for OT officers.

Imperial Boots currently offers a good option for them, I know Gio has been approached about FO officer boots and gave a fairly similar price, and I've been a part of a discussion of doing a custom run of boots for tiny humans with tiny feet.

When we were working on the FO Lieutenant crl, it was actually something we discussed and that's why it wasn't in the draft that was sent along!!

  6. I don’t truthfully see the need for a ‘safe’ version of the epaulettes. It would be like saying that officer belts are also dangerous for children because they are metal and have sharper edges. General common sense seems to dictate that they would be dulled so you wouldn’t cut your hand open and bleed all over the white uniform

Like Vanya suggested up there, there are tons of different ways to make these.

For crl purposes, maybe we don’t have a level 2 certification? The legends Thrawn doesn’t, which allows for both softer and more realistic versions of the epaulettes

I also raised a question to Mark as in shading is being used to hollow out and make his gaunt look. Some of us have a natural look of long face, high cheekbones and  hollow face. Would we still need to use shading which would create a very unnatural look? We are trying to make him human while not still cartoon with shading he will look cartoon with us.

Personal opinion, but I still say yes

Thrawn /isn't/ human. Certain aspects of the chiss species, as depicted by Rebels (the curved browbone lines and very sharp cheekbones, in this case) need to be present in the makeup. And when you put on the blue, it has a tendency to subdue a lot of the face's natural contuors. It's very much like how you add highlights and such after putting on foundation

If your face shape has these features, I would say less contour would be needed. But it isn't something that I believe should be optional. Especially with that forehead of his, lol

  8. The thing is, I think MOST of us were waiting for a crl draft or an updated WIP

I know I was. I was approved so late in the game and didn’t start really lurking here until late may. Dragging up old things that never seemed to reach a consensus didn’t seem smart, and every other CRL thread I’ve lurked on has posted a revised version before going live

Regardless, the points above are worth discussing, especially with the references provided to improve the crl itself.
