  1. I received my final piece for my Imperial Bridge Crew uniform yesterday, and quickly submitted my photos to GML for approval.  A local elementary school had put out a request for characters to appear this week for their "Star Wars Focus on Nutrition" week.  I went there yesterday in my TK, and since it's such a small school I literally posed for a picture with each student individually.  I thought today I might change things up so I brought my IBC uniform in addition to my TK just in case the approval came through.  As I pulled into the parking lot I received the email from my GML, so I grabbed my sling bag with my IBC and left the TK case in the car.  Truthfully I was a little worried how I would do considering I'm typically a bit shy, don't like to be in the spotlight, and I was the only one trooping (hard to find people that can do it in the middle of the work day).  Thankfully as soon as I got suited up and saw the kids reaction the worry went away.  Soon I was walking all around the small cafeteria talking to the students, sitting down at the tables, posing for pictures, and of course discussing the Star Wars movies with them.  The head of their lunch program had printed out these "Words of Wisdom from Yoda", and I talked about those with the kids too, asking if they knew what they meant, or how they could make them relate to their lives.  It was great to be able to interact with them like I did.

There's something about being able to kneel down and get face to face with a kid and see interact with them that's just so amazing.  You don't get that kind of freedom in the TK, or really any costume that has a mask because a lot of the kids are intimidated.  I will always love my TK, and will still default to it, but I've definitely found a new passion with trooping in my IOC costume.
