DirectorEdward got a reaction from ImperialAgentSim in Andor Non Saga Updates
    Hi all!
    ISB
A few observations from ISB uniforms in Andor, episode 7. Some of these things are easier to see from actively watching the show rather than in stills due to camera focus and the refresh rate of pixels on the screen. In any case:
-The material of the tunics is definitely an Ivory/Cream/Off-White cavalry twill.
-All of their boots have top straps that buckle on the outer side of each boot, identical to Director Krennic. I know Crow Props make similar boots and I imagine any cobbler worth his salt can add them. See pictures here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/pPf4YKn

-They all have belt hooks, similar to Wehrmacht tunics: https://postimg.cc/34txj5kc

-The assumption since the release of Rogue One is that the push buttons on non-saga rank plaques are larger than OT push buttons; however, upon closer inspection, I think it’s the plaque itself that’s smaller, leaving less room for space between the buttons. This accounts for how much visible space their is between the center seam under the tunic collar and the rank plaques. The only other explanation is that all of the actors are unusually large, which does not appear to be the case. Colonel Yularen has a six button rank plaque, but there’s 1 to 1 1/2 inches between the center seam and his rank plaque and between the code cylinder pocket and the rank plaque. https://postimg.cc/HJSqBptX

-The tunics fasten with an flat metal bit that slides into a bracket. This is similar to tuxedo and bespoke suit trouser fasteners. I’m not sure of the proper name, but it isn’t a snap button. https://postimg.cc/K3TCGthD

-The tunic collars fasten with 2 large, silver hook & eye fasteners and there is no privacy collar. If the collars are 2 inches high, each hook is approximately 1/3 of an inch in height. https://postimg.cc/kBrkjYW1

-Assuming Inspector General Bozeden Jeems was a Captain (3 red, 1 blue), then it appears that ISB ranks Major and up wear silver shoulder boards.

-So far, new cannon material has shown us the following ISB ranks in live action / behind the scenes: attendant/lieutenant (2 blue); supervisor/senior lieutenant (3 blue); Captain/IG (3 red, 1 blue); Major (5 blue); and Colonel (3 red, 3 blue).

-Although the comics have ISB flag officers, I think a very good case can be made that they are portraying Yularen as the head of ISB. We know he was an Admiral in the Republic, and it doesn’t make sense that he’d take a demotion. 14 years into the Empire, he’s a colonel and he speaks directly to Palpatine. It would be unusual for an ordinary O-6 to talk directly to the Executive if there are other more senior ranks in between. As such, I think ISB’s rank structure does not mirror the ordinary Imperial Military. This keeps with ideas presented in “Thrawn,” where Yularen tells Thrawn that an ISB Colonel has more pull with Coruscant than their relative ranks suggest. We also know that Supervisor Blevin orders around Captain Vanis Tigo (the “Prefect”) in episode 4. This is similar to the comparative authority of SS/SD officers compared to their WWII Army counterparts. In fact, SS/SD Officers often held separate ranks within the reserve Army.
-Gloves appear to be optional, like trench coats.
-Every ISB Officer appears to have their belt snap button on the wearer’s left side.
-The ISB tunics appear to have semi-stiff interfacing inside the front panel.

I'll add an unnoticed detail. Supervisor Lagret wears four blue buttons. In the Dillan-Crossman tabel of ranks in the ISS section, this denotes captain. And now the question. The insignia of the army and ISS in the tabel of ranks are different. The Jeems had an army insignia (RRRB), the officers in Andor had only blue ones, as did the ISS, with the exception of Colonel Yularen. How can these be put together? Maybe the individual divisions of the ISB differ in their ranks? Those in the line of investigations and security - like those of the ISS insignia, those in the line of the army - army insignia, etc.?

I would like for the ONLY difference for the components of this costume is that the tunic is cream colored... other than that, I would want it to be the same as the security services word for word.

I'll post as many references as I can this weekend.

I would not mind seeing the version three and a straight pants version stand along as a non saga ISB to be in line with our security services and military uniforms.  it would complete the set of the available uniforms for the new Disney era costumes.

    Hey Edward,

Thanks so much for your insightful post! It seems like you've done quite a bit of research into developing this costuming project and it's truly appreciated.
I have taken the request to the LMO discussion with the second LMO for the IOC @shadan and the wonderful IOC Detachment Leaders @buckrogersbarker & @kman and their invaluable CRL lead @Hoda to discuss the different views with everyone. It's then upto the Detachment Command to decide if they want to submit a poll request to the LMO team.

I would like to suggest sharing some of the references you've collected in your studies to help us visualize this request.

If there's anything else we can do to assist, please let us know

This is exactly what I’m hoping for. A CRL for a non-saga ISB Officer that can be worn in a variety of configurations (with or without code cylinders/jodhpurs/boots/gloves) and with a variety of plausible ranks.

I had it in my head that we were going to wait till Andor to do “non saga/saga” like we did with the Line Officers.
But trooping last weekend, I had a lot of fun promoting myself from inspector general, to colonel, to director and using that to play off the kids that noticed.
It got me thinking, “why do we need an on screen rank for ISB?” The answer is we don’t based on being consistent with black and green tunics.
If someone wants to be a L3 ANH ISB with no codies and funky tunic, let them.  Let’s do a non saga ISB CRL.
Can we isolate V1 and V2 to “ANH ISB” and break out V3 into its own “non saga ISB” CRL?

ALL the ranks should be permissible for any uniform, especially when there is long standing examples of various ranks throughout the years.  This is the Imperial officer corps, not the Original Trilogy club.

That said, what would you say to the ISB being split like we have with the security services and the staff.

We preserve the past with the OT uniforms and allow the configurability with ISB much like we did with the non saga CRLs.

We have done it with green and black... how about we do it with the ISB?

Edward "DirectorEdward" ReBrook (60086), requesting an advisor in the Fairfax, Virginia, USA area for help with my Director Krennic. I'm trying to find Rogue One styles rank plaques (larger tiles, less visible metal edge, slightly darker). My Krennic is 95% perfect, but good is the enemy of great. I've gone through Magnoli twice now, and their uniforms offer customized sizing, quality fabrics, and more accurate colors than the almighty Avonos would ever admit. I actually think it's better made than the on-screen version. Also, their turn around time is weeks, not Eons. My only gripe is that the code cylinder pockets appear too low, preventing the Krennic shoulder cape from bisecting where the code cylinders meet the pockets. Lastly, is there a trick to getting my Jondpers to flat out on the sides? An insert perhaps. Thoughts?
