This has been a great discussion. How do you fellows feel about accents? Of course I'm aware that that many of the officers in ANH have North American accents, but there's always going to be an appeal to matching the clipped dialect of Peter Cushing or Julian Glover or Kenneth Colley. Would you have patience with a poor yankee officer trying his best to speak The King's English?

In m opinion you can use any accent you want. Sometimes it's an american one. Sometimes it's an English one. Eli vanto has a kinda southern twang in his accent according to the thrawn audiobook. So say just go with what you're most comfortable with. Lol

Politics in media is a fun topic. First of all, I'd like to address that all of the political entities in the Star Wars universe leave something to be desired. The Republic was permissive of horrifically exploitative corporations and backroom cliques. Even at its best, it was hardly better than a forum for planetary oligarchs and monarchs. Recently there has been some wonderful deconstruction of the Jedi, concerning their shades of autocracy and theocracy. There have been some fascinating youtube videos in the past couple of years which emphasize the problematic elements of the Jedi ethos, especially how Jedi stoicism carries several hallmarks toxic masculinity, how Yoda and Kenobi are both deceitful and manipulative in the films scripts, and how Jedi indoctrination pushes both Anakin and Luke toward emotional repression, rather than opening an avenue toward emotional support.

Now, how does the Empire shake out politically? It's just plain fascism. Yes, you can feel sympathy for the humanity of some of the characters swept up in it, such as Ciena Ree, Rae Sloane and Eli Vanto, but the political institution itself is thoroughly dystopian. You're better off not making apologies for it. The shortfalls of the Republic, the Jedi, or the Rebellion don't excuse it.

You do not have to be any sort of fascist apologist to play-act a bad guy from Star Wars. I'm a faaaaar lefty. I have membership card from the IWW in my pocket. I buddy around with Marxists and Anarcho-Syndicalists. You're not obliged to internalize the ideology of a costume you wear. Especially if it's a costume that you primarily wear at charity events for kids.

Adding on to what Jaunty said. You could try to analyze the politics in Star Wars, but that shouldn't mean you need to personify it accurately. After all we are bad guys doing good. Emphasis on the good not the bad. If anything, our character should be a parody of the real empire. All in good fun. It's nice seeing a star wars debate where fans aren't at eachother's throats. Lol

  4. This whole thread has been very enlightening and made me think of how I present myself as an officer. I've always been a professional and carry myself like an officer and I just be like me. Most of the time I just can't help but smile because of how much fun I'm having. Being an officer, I've always tried to be in essence a back-up handler. I'm always looking out for the armored troopers though keeping them safe. I will keep all this in mind at my future troops.

  5. Ya all the crew shirts I've seen on the merch stores are branded of course. But we're talking about unbranded crew shirts for purchase by friends, family, and recruits. I know any Star Wars shirt usually will do for this case but I'm just throwing around ideas.

But we have a black poncho for black officers, krennic has a white tunic with a white poncho and in our CRL there is a green poncho for the green officers. So it is kind of fair to have the white poncho as an optional for officers with a white tunic?

The problem is that it's not seen on screen. All of the CRLs are based on what is seen in canon. It doesn't stop you from making the poncho. But until it's seen on screen, it will be difficult to include it in the CRL for ISB officers I believe.

With the possibility of a separate R1 ISB CRL, can we add the poncho as an optional accessory?

The rain poncho is an optional accessory to the none-R1 line officer and for the standard black officers. Since the white poncho does appear on screen, it would be a wonderful accessory for the other ISB officer next to Krennic.

I would like to see that too. But I would understand if it doesn't happen because the only ISB officer we see use the poncho is Krennic.

  8. In my opinion, as someone who doesn't understand the technical terms, I would rather learn them so I could forward them to a professional who will be making the costume. Tailor or Seamstress or not, if you're gonna make the costume yourself or have a professional do it you gotta know the correct terms. Adding pictures to the details on the CRLs would help alot with understanding the technical terms.

I haven't yet played Battlefront, but dug up some old convos about those pinholes in other officer badges from the movies.  It is amazing that they picked out that tiny little detail and made sure to put it in the game, yet changed so many other things about the uniform and bars!

    It boggles the mind... lol

Without the knurled bezel, it means yours are the most accurate, Jeff!

Also the rankbar looks like it's floating or has something between it and the tunic.

Oh ya! I just noticed that. The shadow doesn't meet the edge of the rank bar.

Do you think it's best to say "notch", or perhaps "slightly rounded"? Some people might interpret "notch" as a small chunk out of it. Maybe also include the tiny pin-holes mentioned, in L3.   Looking great so far!

Perhaps the rank bar part of Versio's CRL should be the same as Admiral Ozzel's with the appropriate sizing and tile colors for Versio.

Edit: Scratch that. I incorrectly assumed Admiral Ozzel had his own CRL.

This has always been a wee bit of a bug bear of mine. As per the rules..non-members cannot buy branded clothes..but to become a member one needs to clear a cossie. But most recruits, before and during their first build like to crew/spot/wrangle to get to know folks, the set up,the mission. So they can't buy a shirt to wear while doing so. It's an understandable rule..but a frustrating one.
In the past I've gifted or loaned a shirt or two to new recruits or their partner to wear while helping,as have a few other gsrrison mates- nobody has ever had an issue with it so don't worry about it.
    And have fun!

Perhaps if there was, a legion support shirt without the legion symbols or 501st on it that's open to recruits? Like if it just said "Legion Support" or something along those lines. Could those be open for purchase to non 501st members or recruits?

  13. I think I've found the problem with the clasp of the code cylinders. They've somehow used the retension spring as a clasp. Also the whole clasp itself sits higher up on the code cylinder as well as the spring is higher up on the thumb tab

Edit: I've highlighted the parts of the two code cylinders for comparison:

Blue - is the retention spring

Yellow - is the thumb tab

Red - the clasp band that attach to the cylinder
