I am currently on vacation, so it will take me some time to get around to looking at this submission. In the meantime, it would be most helpeful if you could post the pictures in the first post instead of linking to a Google drive link. I use an image hosting site called Imgur. To post a picture, you can then click Insert other media in the lower right corner, then click Insert image from URL. If you then copy the Image address from Imgur and paste it there, you can then post the images.

I have made my belt from a Philo Props buckle! It's one of the only things I could do myself in my build! 

I was talking to PhiloProps on Etsy about my build and he said he was doing complete belts!

In some ways I envy our friends in armor, though. It's really hard not smiling at kids doing cute things.

Adding on to what Jaunty said. You could try to analyze the politics in Star Wars, but that shouldn't mean you need to personify it accurately. After all we are bad guys doing good. Emphasis on the good not the bad. If anything, our character should be a parody of the real empire. All in good fun. It's nice seeing a star wars debate where fans aren't at eachother's throats. Lol

I actually found the reason for this a while back. I was looking through some old Star Wars RPG books, and in it were prefixes for all the different types of troopers. And listed for Officers was ID. What did it stand for? No idea. But I'm pretty sure that this was the inception of the title 

Thanks very much!  Yeah, I have had to get inventive and really into character.  Without any "obviously" Star Wars characters (TKs, Vader, Kylo, etc), my costume can seem a bit... goosesteppy.  Consequently, I try to be pretty forward as identifying as being part of the Galactic Empire.  Plus, I think those are pretty sensible reasons for an officer to be on his own somewhere. 

Officially for the 501st, no. However, for regular cosplay that you just want to wear... Sure. But you'd never be able to wear it at 501st events

 I have a Line Officer uniform, and now I want to make a Grand Admiral. The problem is that I’m not that crazy about the rebels style belt and rank bar, but I don’t want to change the rebels style epaulets from metal to the EU Thrawn style.
Can some kind of mix and match be done with the uniforms?

with licensed material, I am hoping to see more animated designs brought into the real world.  Forcing people to do a stylized cartoon version isn't idea (unless you want to do it).  Our faces are not cartoons.

I thought it meant Imperial Detachment or Imperial Designation or something like that. 

I've got a Staff Officer build, but I'm the only 501st member within 200 km (120 miles) of here, so quite often it's just me and a handler who's working on his first costume.  If I do find myself with no other troopers around, I've found three fun roles to play, depending on my audience and my mood.
 
First is my "Advance Reconnaissance" duty... This one's especially fun when I'm caught having a bite to eat, or watching the local seaplanes or some such "touristy" thing.  I'll simply explain that I'm performing a routine inspection and evaluation on this system, before the Emperor commits troops to the task.  I'll follow that up with something to get people engaged, such as "You haven't seen any... Rebels... have you?" or "This <gesture at food> is wonderful, and very filling.  This will definitely keep our troops well fed.  Can I place an order for 150,000?  To go?"

Second is my "Recruiting Duties"... if someone expresses an interest in costuming in general, and the 501st in specific, I'll switch over to "Really?  I'm actually here to bolster our ranks in this system!  Do you have any experience operating AT-STs?  No?  How about Z-74 Speeder Bikes?  Can you program a Gonk droid?  Have you ever considered becoming a Stormtrooper?"

Finally, especially if there's kids who are a bit wary or concerned, I approach within about 3 metres of them or so, and (in that "little kid whispering but not really" voice), confess that I've gotten lost from my squad, and ask if the child if they or their parents have seen any stormtroopers.  I did this to one kid, and his older sister immediately pointed down the street and said she'd seen Darth Vader "over there".  Knowing there was no Vader around, I tried to look worried, looking for Vader, and I overheard her tell her brother "He's a bad guy!  We're Rebels, like Jyn and K2!  Shhh!"

Hope that helps give some ideas for if you're caught without your squad.

Some of the best advice I was ever given for costuming overly serious/slightly intimidating characters.
"Head up, shoulders back, walk like you've just been sent to kill Captain America."

It worked very well for Kylo, but I found it carried over pretty nicely for officers as well (if not better. Apparently I have a somewhat intense face if I make an attempt)

The other piece of advice I can give is develop your officer's character! If you know who they are, what their likes and dislikes are, and how they behave, you'll have a way easier time and people get really into it. My First Order officer is really freaked out by Kylo. I've had small children try to fight him for me. It's adorable and they love it.

Can one explain the origin of the prefix "ID" for the imperial Officers? I wonder where that came from or if that has a special meaning.
