As they confirmed most characters to be alive at least until the end of ROTJ, that gives them quite the possibilities.

I really, really want to see Sabine's adventures post-finale.

    Spoiler-ish? maybe?

If we don't see their adventures on the hunt for Ezra in another animated series, Sabine or you-know-who would be a great second POV character for a Thrawn book, as Pryce was to the first one.

A lot of mixed feelings from me. I've been a big fan of the series, admittedly haven't followed it from the beginning. Came in a little late. XD But.. yeah it felt a little bit "...oh, okay" for me.
Excited to see what the future holds though, now that this is tied up reasonably neatly.

We now have the 29 years to fill after the Battle of Jakku and before the Battle of Starkiller Base.

I still don't see why we can't use legitimate technical sewing terms for a specific thing, with perhaps elaboration in laymans terms for what said thing looks like. So that a GML or person who doesn't want to google the term can get the right effect/know what they're looking for, while those who know what they're doing or -do- want to google the right term and find 1000's of walkthroughs on youtube or wikihow etc, can do so?

"code cylinder pocket has a faintly visible seam just below the opening (cylinder pockets are one-sided piped pockets)" Best of both worlds. Literally no skin off anyone's nose. NOT too much information. People who want the technical term can have it. GML's who just want to know what X should look like, get their visual description.

That's a thought too, but I assume there's hassle involve in changing detachment.

I'm definitely down for 'Officer Cadet" as the helmetless version and something like "Trooper Cadet" for the helmeted one. We have the reference to support helmetless cadets as an option; how we implement doesn't matter as much to me as that we just do.

I've been lurking your research thread (which is fantastic btw), and I'm glad to see this put up for consideration. I have some familiarity with the Russian source costumes from university and historical costuming adventures, and I think you've translated both source materials into a CRL very well.

    ^Also a very good option.

I am all for keeping the current CRL is that is everyone's preference, and pretty much copy-pasted that into a new 'generic' without the helmet, or maybe 'Officer cadet' as all those pictured for the comic are in the academy for officer program. Either works, but considering the large amount of evidence, one of those options must be put forward.

Optional hats sounds good! I'm loving the Thrawn comic and cadets without hats is prolific, rather than just a one off here and there.
And lets face it, a very large majority of cadet costumers are prooooobably going to pick up a helmet at some point in their cadet careers so they can have a more complete costume or more versatility (the option of a full face helmet when you cant be bothered with doing your hair/having a bad skin day?? I'm jealous!)
Making this thing optional makes for a really cool costume and makes it far more accessible for those who cant afford a lid -right now-.

There's a lot of futzy comic lines everywhere so ymmv

On the helmet; we see now that its not a common thing, its a specialty thing, so regardless of the appearance of the jacket, why would it remain mandatory? As Bobby said below you, as it exists now its basically just a hindrance towards making the costume, there's pretty much just one maker for those. Its clearly now canon that they are not worn in the majority of instances, and not having it would mean many more members would have interest in creating the costume.

^I still say a hat and a huge honking helmet are two entirely different things  Its more like field armor; we know officers can have it, but they don't just wear it around all the time and we definitely don't ask that people have it for approval.

Tbh, I doubt that Rebels had a canon reason for putting helmets on people, and it was most likely budget. They re-use officer models all the time and the hats are low so they don't have to animate eyes. This way they didn't have to create and animate background heads.

For Rebels it was most likely the easiest way to animate on a budget, they only needed a male and female model and could slap the same texture on top of it, which was then not necessary for any of the print media^

I read the comic and the cadets never wore a helmet. We could discuss wether it's something only army recruits wear, or it's special to a certain academy e.g. Coruscant without and Lothal with helmet. But in the end we have different sources with different results. I don't see any reason to give Rebels a preference and dump the Thrawn comic, especially when the optional helmet would allow both versions.

I don’t know how you can have more requirements for level 1 than for the higher levels.  Officer hats and stormtrooper helmets are part of their ensembles.  The evidence provided here shows that these helmets are not.  They are first students after all.

It is a generic cadet uniform of which there are many cadets seen in the new publication. The helmet is not always with them.  It never appears in the Thrawn comic and it is sometimes omitted in the other children’s books.

To make it required for level 1 is to require something that the very characters in the sources are not required.

Given all of this new reference to show that it is not standard daily wear as the hats are: why?

There are face characters included in reference (Thrawn and Vanto), but the vast majority are generic cadets or given a name briefly. Cadet without a helmet would be emulating a generic, standard issue cadet - which as shown in this entire imperial academy, does not include a helmet. These are specifically officer cadets I am referencing, who do not wear helmets as a matter of course. Anywhere in this new canon source presented above.

This is not comparable to FISD and Clones; it would be comparable if these were specifically a stormtrooper regiment shown without helmets for an extended period of time.

    I definitely agree.

With the new references seen here, we can see that the helmets are worn significantly less than they appear in Rebels. They don't actually appear at all in the comic, so it would make sense to move them to an optional accessory for the Cadet CRL as a whole.

    Imperial Cadet CRL

Currently, this CRL mandates the helmet be worn for basic approval. I suggest this be moved to optional accessories.

We've kind of long assumed that cadets don't wear that nonsense 24/7, but thanks to Thrawn #1 we see a variety of cadets in different situations, with full front/back/side ref, and no helmet to be seen. I've included a few caps (spoiler warning for this issue!) and the rest are on the linked IMGUR album, showing both Thrawn and Eli as well as generic background cadets in mess hall, quarters, class, public space, and in front of superior officers without helmet and from all angles. In all cases where the characters are drawn large enough/art is detailed enough, the seam lines and details of the uniform precisely match the Rebels reference used for the CRL, and the CRL itself. So, definitely not a costume variant, just a helmetless option.

This is what I think too. It would be nice to see a new costume like this for Flagship, given his clothing and affiliation, but just being "Thrawn", and a soft costume, I could totally see him come here too. But, whichever, it would be a fun costume to see.

It's an interesting question. The character itself is an officer, so it wouldn't be erroneous to welcome him here. As a wildling he'd also fit to the Denizens as someone living at the edge of civilised space. Even the new Underworld Detachment would be possible as he's definitely a villain. But no matter where, I'm looking forward to see that WIP thread happen!

Someone in my Garrison really wants to do "wild man Thrawn" and get that approved.
Question is... what detachment would a long haired, blue skinned, man in tattered clothes go into.

The single blue rank tile for Eli is super interesting, I agree that I think it's for Cadet but I'm curious to see what they use for Ensign! I was originally going to do a crewman and switch to officer after reading Thrawn because I liked Eli so much tbh, so I'd like to match his Ensign rank bar.

I am also very pleased they left Thrawn in his green uniform, it clashes just as badly as I imagined when I read the book lol.

Also, re: Armada, the Chimaera expansion is absolutely gorgeous, they put a lot of effort into the details.

I'm very happy to see they did the colours right.  After all, Yularen's joke about how good Thrawn would look in white if he joined the ISB would be lost if he wore it from the beginning.

Reading the comic right now, it's just as good as the book was, but with pictures!
I'm hoping there's more images of Lt. Thrawn so I can try and make that CRL happen

Got my comic yesterday for my tablet as it's hard to get the real ones in Germany in time. Looks realy great.
I'll also need to get my Chimera. I have two complete fleets for Armada, both imperial and Rebels, just because of the detailed models. Haven't played one game with them yet.
