  1. I haven't been able to work on this at all since the my last post. I was hoping to get some further input from someone who's done it already, but I haven't had any luck with that...

Also, I've lost a significant amount of weight over the last year, and I haven't really wanted to work on a costume that isn't even gonna fit me anymore, but I don't want to ditch all the work I've put into it either...

So, that's where I am with the project: Still looking for input, and unsure how to continue.

  2. I just bought a uniform from CosplaySky, and I plan on comparing my altered pattern against it, and making modifications, since I know others have been approved with that costume. The zipper on the CosplaySky uniform is absolutely garbage, and I don't like how it or the pockets are set up, but it'll be useful to make sure the shoulder seams and darts, etc. are in the right places.

  3. I know others have attempted this before, but as I dug through the forums, I just got more and more confused. So, I bought the McCall's M4745 pattern, and with some help from my seamstress sister, I started documenting some easily reproducible steps to convert that pattern into a screen-accurate officer tunic. And, since I'm a software engineer, I put it all on GitHub Pages, with nice animated diagrams showing exactly what to do.

    Here are the tunic instructions:

I also dug through the CRLs, and put this page together: http://lellimecnar.com/costuming/imperial-officer/reference I'd like to make sure it's as accurate as possible, so I welcome feedback on that as well.

Once I get the pattern right, I'm going to put the actual instructions for sewing the thing here: http://lellimecnar.com/costuming/imperial-officer

I've never actually done this before, and I haven't done much sewing, so I started by making it in muslin. It looks accurate to me, but I think I'm ready to share it with the community here, and get some feedback from those who know what they're doing.

This is all very much a work in progress, but I'm hoping for some feedback before I start cutting any actual fabric... And hopefully it will be helpful to the next guy who comes along looking to get started.

  4. I found this "Army Green" twill at Joann's that looks closer than anything else I've seen: http://www.joann.com/sew-classic-bottomweights-solid-classic-twill/8572778.html It's not gabardine, but the gabardine they had looked more like corduroy, felt too thin, and it didn't come in this army green color anyway. It has a great texture, which doesn't really show at all in the blurry picture on the website. I bought white, black, and army green, and I plan on making all three uniforms.

Requesting an advisor to help me get started with any of the officer uniforms. I have black, white, and olive material already, and I'm dying to get started. Maybe Krennic first?

(I intend to make printable patterns to share with the community, if you can help with that too)

  6. I bought the McCalls 4745 pattern last year for my "Old Luke" tunic, and I was hoping to use it for an Imperial Officer uniform, but as I read through these forums, I'm finding that there is a lot more modification required than I'm comfortable with... I have a sister who's a seamstress, but she lives in another state, and is always super busy. I can ask her questions and stuff, but she can't help much.

Bottom line: I can follow clear instructions, but modifying a pattern is way out of my comfort zone.

That being said, I am very interested in participating in this effort to create a repository of approved patterns, though I'm not sure how much help I can provide... I have Photoshop/Illustrator skills. I was thinking of bringing some of these pictures into photoshop, scaling them accurately, and tracing them into a pdf that anyone can take into a printing office, and have printed out. I've been looking for something like that for a while now...

    Thoughts?
