Thanks for the review, I know a lot of things happened during that time.

As far as the boots go, I've got big feet (size 13 or 14 US) and finding something that looked correct and that fit me was difficult!

My helmet padding has since been rectified and the big pad in the back is now in the front.

My stirrups are stretching as I severely underestimated the elasticity of my material when I sewed them on.  I'll shorten them and retake photos once my photographer is back into town.

Pants need stirrups and the modesty tab needs a dome/snap to do up as I cant do the hooks and eyes up myself.

I have to use a mirror to do my hooks, I can't do them consistently.

Honestly, almost everything you wear with boots needs stirrups, no matter if it's officer pants or a TIE pilot coverall.  I've got some old boot bands that I use to keep my legs tight, but stirrups are easier to wear and likely more comfortable.

REALLY? Synthetic tibanna gas appeared in Legends?! Do you know which book that was?

I wish I remembered.  I own probably 50 books, but I remember reading about it.  I remember it too specifically to have just made it up.

There's a reddit post with a similar goal (maybe yours, who knows) looking for fresh ideas for an imperial scientist for a fan fiction.  The list is pretty comprehensive.

One thing not on the list there was the cloaking device for star destroyers combined with the "Battle Analysis Computer" or BAC to try and predict ship movements outside of a cloaking field (where the starship cannot see) by allowing the computer to study the movements of ships prior to the engaging of a cloaking device or if they enter the cloaking field (therefore being visible to the ships sensors/crew.)

I know the post above stated that it can't have been done.  But in the book (I can't recall which, it's one of the ones at the start of the Yuuzhan Vong War) Admiral Pelleon decides during the test that the computer can't collect enough data and that during a test involving the empire's own fighters (Preybirds which were flying pre-determined patterns) the BAC, controlling the ships turbolasers managed to hit one ship out of 8 outside of the cloaking field during several minutes of firing low power "painting" bolts.  At this point in the book, Admiral Pelleon, on the bridge of the Chimaera, decides that continuing to fight the New Republic is pointless due to the failure of their last good idea and decides that it's time for the Empire to surrender.

Determining a way for a starship to accurately hit targets outside of a cloaking field again sounds like something a military scientist would be doing.

  4. @ABomb Agreed.  The pad that's in there keeps getting pushed down and flattening (it's about 1.5" thick.) I guess I need a more rigid/thicker foam in front or less in the back.  Maybe the foam in the back is too rigid?  It's the same foam, but attached differently.

You see it in the detention block scene on ANH too.  Really obvious.

Definitely noticed and on my "to-do" list.  When (if) I submit for imperator, it'll be rectified.

I just bought my 9 year old an ISB Agent from eBay.  About $65 from China, and custom measurements.

    It's pretty decent.  I'd recommend.

Good for Galactic Academy.  Material is a little off, and collar has no modesty panel, but it looks good otherwise.

Do you have a link or anything about that?  My almost 10 year is jealous that daddy gets to go do all this cool stuff dressed up. :)

  7. I did a "star wars" themed Saturday festival at a school on a Saturday morning.  This was an all day festival and at night, they were going to play the OT movies with a projector on the side of a building for one of those "watch a movie on the grass" things.

Well, Saturday morning was the farmers market at the school on the playground.  I was there in my Biker Scout and I was playing hopscotch with a couple of kids.  Some other kids run through the gate of the playground "Mom, I want to go play with Commander Cody."  Another kid called me a "clone."  I could accept it as a "good enough" title, except there were clones there already. ;)

My friend and I used to do the statue gig at the bus station at San Diego State on Halloween.  The buses and taxis would drop people off there and we would both be standing motionless as TK's.  We would let people come really close and pose for selfies or group pics with us and when they took the picture, I would say "I blinked, can we do that again?"  My buddy had the really good voice amp with the static pop when he talked, so he would be like "Let me see your identification"  Most of these people were intoxicated, so some of their reactions were priceless.  We were there probably 3-4 hours.  People has taken up seats around the area so they could watch us scare people for hours.  San Diego Police apparently got called (some of those drunk people were running and SCREAMING) and came over to see what we were doing, but the officers that came out ended up posing for pictures with us.

We both had lipstick prints all over our armor by the end of the night.  On the front of my TK helmet, some pink got into a scuff and it didn't come off for years.

I would consider the ranks, themselves, equivalent.

However, one individual can outrank another individual of the same rank, if he has more time-in-grade, or time-in-service, or holds a higher appointed position.

Definitely.  In the current military, it's "position over rank" I.e. a first sergeant of a company (enlisted) is technically above a platoon leader (typically a lieutenant, a commissioned officer.)  I know the ranks are loosely based on real world applications, but there's some justification to that.  The time in service is definitely a thing too, I've been part of some discussions of seniority where we were trying to figure out what month someone had joined as it made a difference.

I see Grand General as like the equivalent of General of the Armies; a rank more or less set up when you need a person to supremely take ownership of military force and distribute commands for efforts on multiple fronts.

I always considered the "grand" versions to be the equivalent of 5 star (General of the Army/Fleet Admiral.)  But you're right, it could be taken either way.

So I think that means Thrawn salutes Tagge?

Not indoors, not without a cover and not in the field.  Only when no one is watching, I guess? ;)

The matrix isn't all inclusive of all costume types, it merely shows the black jumpsuit costumes plus staff officer & warrant officer variants for comparison. It would have been way too wide had I included all the variations of navy trooper and gunner!

Oh for sure.  I know there's a limit to how big you can make it.  Just one more column for dress troopers! :D

  10. @khazara

Sadly, the chart is incorrect in regards to Navy Troopers.  There's a difference between the jumpsuited trooper and the "dress" variants and the chart addresses none of those differences.  Even the dress variants have differences between each film (and that's what you see in R1, I know you skipped that film, but there's dress ones in the OT.)

With the ANH vs the ESB/ROTJ tunics oftentimes referred too interchangeably, it at least points out that they are not the same.  For our purposes though, you can use an ANH rank on an ESB/ROTJ tunic and be emulating an "on screen officer."

In terms of strict accuracy, yes.  Back in the real world, "Staff Officer (Black Uniform)" also goes for ANH.

    Holsters on the left side

That picture is a second before the one I posted and shows it a little more clearly.  A great shot of the red glove lining too.  As he's stumbling in the photo I posted, you can see the holster sticking out.

Reviewing other films (Honestly for ESB, just doing "show me all scenes with Admiral Piett" gives you 90% of all scenes with INT's in them.) Not a left handed holster in the bunch.

In ROTJ, most INT's were of the tech variety and didn't wear holsters or carry weapons at all.

Great photos of the detention block, that's pretty clear.  None of the reference images I found listed that so clearly.

Cool!  Thanks for the info/clarification guys!  For some reason people think I'm the expert on this stuff at armor parties :D  So the quick summary ignoring nuance would be:

    Warrant Officer: ROTJ*
    ANH Staff: ANH

    Staff Officer (Black Uniform): R1/SOLO

You're pretty knowledgeable, so I can see why they would think that! :)

Is it just R1 that they used the bigger pushbutton ranks or did they do it in Solo too?  Technically, even the OT rank bars wouldn't be correct replicating a R1 officer since their rank tiles were sized differently.  Maybe that's that nuance stuff you talked about ignoring? ;)

Additionally, from not only the EU, but also R1 and Solo, the standard "Imperial" style tunic in black has been re-canonized, although the ones seen in R1/Solo have a bit more flare in the skirt.

Complete with their own little nuances of accessories and appropriate wear.  R1 is where we first see rank bars, code cylinders and a different sidearm on fleet trooper "officers." (Version 4)

In fact, in the Star Wars Costumes book, the Officer article both states and shows a black uniform that exactly matches the Line Officer uniform, so maybe there were some in the movies.

I read some illustrated reference guide (A LONG time ago) and I remember reading the same thing, the style is the same just the color was different.  Maybe the same book you're talking about?

If it is from film being flipped then it should be possible to tell by looking at the tunic and whether the fastening comes up over the right shoulder or the left?  Are there any screenshots of holsters being worn on the left side?

Good thinking, it didn't even occur to me that the other non-symmetrical items would be backwards and thus more readily apparently that the film had been flipped.

As part of the CRL, surely someone has a screenshot of an IFT with a holster on their left.
