  1. I may try my hand at making my own patterns and share what I discover. My plan right now is to use a combination of the McCall 4745 pattern and a more modern tailored suit pattern for the shoulders and sleeves (I am going for a more R1 look on this and from reference images of their uniforms I see a fairly tailored slim silhouette with high shoulder and slim sleeve). Where I may need help and any reference images that you all may have is how the tunic zips and or connects under the yoke and how the code cylinder pockets look up close and inside.

Are there any sources for a lower cost wool twill to use for this? I don't want to go all out until I know this works.

this will be a slow process and if it is a success I will try to share my findings.

Interesting; I've not see that before.  Were you planning to make a Krennic yourself?  I'd need to look closer to compare accuracy to the CRL requirements.  I'm not sure if enough detail is visible in the photos they've provided, though.

I don't plan to make a Krennic, just a generic R1 Officer. But I do plan to try my hand at actually sewing one from scratch and I thought this might save some time in pattern modification.

In my opinion it is not necessary to buy these patterns, as there are a lot of patterns here in the forum that are definitely CRL accurat.

I tried searching but haven't been able to find actual patterns, only partial build threads. Could you point me to some possible patterns? I have the McCall 4745 currently that I may start to modify this weekend, but honestly I will be guessing most my way through it so it would be nice to have a starting point.

    thanks!

I haven't been able to work on this at all since the my last post. I was hoping to get some further input from someone who's done it already, but I haven't had any luck with that...

Also, I've lost a significant amount of weight over the last year, and I haven't really wanted to work on a costume that isn't even gonna fit me anymore, but I don't want to ditch all the work I've put into it either...

So, that's where I am with the project: Still looking for input, and unsure how to continue.

I hope your weight loss is a good thing for you and not unwanted. What specific information are you looking to get? Not that I could necessarily help, but someone may be able to help with more specific questions possibly?

I would love to see feedback from someone that actually has an approved officer's jacket - I'm curious about a few seaming details. (The pockets in particular, as that's the biggest alteration from the existing pattern.)

That being said, to my eye the seams all look like they're in the right places, as the original pattern has the princess seams on the back. The ease in the shoulders drawn into the original pattern concerns me, but I'll take a look at the finished coat we managed from it and see if it has that puckering. If not, the sleeve and/or shoulder can be reshaped a little to eliminate it.

I'm going to make a muslin mock of this either this weekend or next, depending on when my hard copy of the pattern gets here.

Did you ever make the muslin mock up? I have the McCall's pattern and have been concerned about the sleeves as well.

  4. I look forward to following this thread in hopes that it will give me some incite to my future attempt. The hard part however may be figuring out exactly what dimensions and how those dimensions are altered to tailor it to ones own body. Your fathers height and weight are quite similar to mine, however his chest and waist are a few sizes larger.

It may also be helpful to indicate fabric grain (I suppose if you look closely at the images you might be able to see that).

    thanks much for posting this!
