Without access to the original prop (and the one sold recently by the actor wasn’t the actual prop) I believe you’ll get many varying answers to this question!

The auction description says: "Private Collection of Julian Glover - an incredible opportunity to own a piece of cinema history - General Veers' (Julian Glover) original screen used prop Rank Badge from his uniform, as seen in Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (1981). The prop badge being a simple piece of aluminium with affixed red and blue perspex panels to the front. A piece of velco is fitted to the reverse. Julian Glover has written a message to the reverse which reads 'The original badge of rank of General Maximilian Veers in The Empire Strikes Back, played by Julian Glover '. Supplied with an autographed photograph of Glover as Veers wearing a similar badge. A rare and important piece of cinema history. Measures approx; 5x8.5cm.
Provenance; supplied for this auction by Julian Glover himself - this badge was one of several made for his character and when filming completed he was given this badge by the costume department as a souvenir."

When I look on the auction website I can clearly see the differences between the shown item and the one worn by Glover on the character picture. But how can we say its not original? Its not the one on the photo, but maybe it was still used during filming. Who knows.

  2. Do you think that if someone wanted to make such a uniform, but as a random officer (not Head of Intelligence, so with no makeup, or different rank-bar), he or she could get it approved?

Technically if there are no sources showing random Imperial Intelligence Officers in their uniforms, then there would be a problem with the 501st costume regulations to get it approved. On the other side, I'd say it's logical that every officer in the same branch of service would wear the same type of uniform (just as Navy Lieutenants wear the same type of uniform like Navy Commanders, or Admirals for example).

That´s what I wrote in my essays many years ago. It definitely make sense that all officers of the same branch wear the same type of uniforms. So for me it´s not a problem to see regular (lower ranking) officers of the Imperial Intelligence in red uniforms. The same applies for ISB-officers.

  3. As a stormtrooper officer I was reffered as "Police Officer" from a japanese tourist, who asked the way.

Once we were hired in a shopping mall, we entered the mall to the backdoors because it should be a surprise for the customers. Very conspirative action! After we leaved the changing room in costumes, one of the employees behind the scene, who also was not informed about our mission, looked surprised and ask me (whispering) if we are special agents from the german customs and looking for illegal workers. For kicks I said "Yes, of course, we are VERY special agents, but it´s top secret!" I asked her in which shop she´s working. She answered "housewares". I said "Oh good, first we start our investigation in the toy store, but later we also come to your shop too." She nodded her head, said "thank you" and disappeared. The whole day I never saw her again!

And a 501st-comrade of mine, also in black uniform, was called "russian submarine crew member" from an older woman. Further she told him her sympathy because of the Kursk-Disaster, because he lost so many comrades. Very weird situation.

  4. "I remember that John Mollo told me that his intent with the "Black Officers" was to make them Vader's personal troops…they were Vader's very own "SS". I was surprised at that, as I always assumed they were simply a standard Imperial rank."

That´s what I say for years now! That´s the reason I give the stormtrooper officers (black) such ranks like "Stormlieutenant" and other ones. ;)

  5. I was wondering about possible differences between the ones in the hat (obviously had the notch) and the ones on the belt (very hard to see). Apparently the belt found in the archives that MuR copied their belt from had the notch on the buckle's greeblie, but the Magic of Myth display looks like it does not have a notch. Of course I haven't been there myself, and I've only seen pictures that visitors have taken which aren't the best. Does anyone have a clear pic of a buckle greeblie without a notch?

Here are two pics of a screen used belt I took a few years ago:

That´s the reason I offer two different disks for the costumes I´m selling. The ones with the notch for the hats, the ones without the notch for the belts.

  6. Michell engineering "hydralic reference" turntable if I'm not mistaken. Lots of Fett parts come from the same turntable.

Yes, thats also my knowledge. But for years now I try to discover why some of the original props (especially belts) DONT have this special disks with the notch? The known turntable only have the greeblies WITH notch. What were that other disks (without notch and crease) made of?

  7. Thank you very much good sir.

    You´re welcome. :)

Hey you wouldn't happen to have a copy of that paper you wrote on your research on rank would you?

What do you mean? You can download my essays on my website. Still only available in german language but I hope this year to get help to translate them to english.

  8. As I said in the GML forum, I will need to see this because officers tunics need to be tailored to fit... Not a size chart. A size chart is to general as people are not built to size charts.

I have seen this problem locally and SOMETIMES the right combination is hit upon.

I have seen 3 CB tunics that were made using size charts, two looked way off and one was close. But none were perfect and what they should be.

It is a fitted jacket, fitted to the wearer that is why they look so sharp.

    YESSSS!!!
