The armor worn by First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny from the Resistance cartoon is worth comparing to Moff Gideon's chestplate, especially since he was Imperial Security Bureau.

As I have always had a love for the Army trooper, from west end games stuff etc, here is a bit of a take of a squad or 2, but I must stress this was for an airsoft game why lots of different guns, and we only got our armour 10 mins before it so needs work etc (hence why I am here but guess I need to find the ACD page again )

    Friendly neighborhood LMO here.

There has been a wealth of references submitted here.  The LMO Team has went through every piece of it, including the things uploaded just yesterday.  I will emphasize that from our perspective that when we decided if any specific reference was useable or not, we did not do so with the mindset of attempting to prove the existence of the character in the Star Wars Universe.  It definitely exists.  Nor were we concerned over the references being EU or Legends sourced.  After all, we do have a Detachment that specializes in such.

The mindset we had when reviewing the material was trying to establish a common, replicatable, and uniform costume.  With that in mind, a good 80% of the material cannot be used for our (Legion's) purposes.  However, of the remaining 20% of material (which is still a good bit, mind you), the references are clear, show uniformity, show full length back/side/front, show detail.

Yes, we will make a CRL of the character: Imperial Army Trooper.

However.  It will not be exactly what the first pass was in recreating it.  The LMO Team, thus far, has determined that a good baseline of what the character uses as a consistency base is the harness, suit, belt, helmet.  Other items may be added as optional accessories, but we will get to that when we get to it

We are placing this in No Detachment Affiliation for the time being, and the LMO Team will work with Tarrif (and others, if any are) directly on the production of the costume, first,  to match the acceptable references, and then secondly, create the CRL based on that.

I've been doing research on this topic for a while now, and will have a costume done for at least two different variants by the end of February. Here's the research I'm basing my costume builds on...

    - The base uniform is the very same grey Imperial flight suit that AT-ST drivers wear. According to the Imperial Sourcebook (pages 45 - 46) the AT-ST driver is referred to an "Army Assault Crewman" who drives many different types of surface attack vehicles including the AT-ST and AT-AT. It says in the ISBv2 they are regular Army Troopers with driver training (like an MOS). The Imperial Sourcebook has different stats for two variants of Imperial Army Trooper: Army Trooper & Army Assault Crew

    - According to WEG Star Wars Miniatures Battles (page 98) the Imperial Army Trooper can be found with no armor or any armor.

    - According to WEG Star Wars Miniatures Battles Companion (page 56), the Imperial Army Trooper uniform is described as "The basic uniform of the Imperial Army is a grey coverall reminiscent of a flight suit. The boots and belt are black, and black gauntlets are worn. Army troopers wear a grey helmet which provides protection to the head and neck by means of an extended brim along the back and sides. The helmet is also provided with protective and vision-enhancing goggles, which can be worn over the eyes or placed up on the brim when unrestricted view is desired."  It further states there are no individual unit marking on the uniform and elaborates, "Only one emblem is displayed on the uniform - the emblem of the Empire itself. This overarching symbol is ubiquitous in every branch of the service. In the army, the Imperial emblem is worn on both shoulders of the uniform."

    - According to WEG Star Wars Miniatures Battles Companion (page 56 - 57) there are some exceptions in regards to unit markings. For example, "On planets where it would be easier to subvert the armed forces than to conquer them, for instance, forces which are raised or appropriated there may sometimes be allowed to retain a unit identity and display specific ornamentation." The book goes on to explain, "Some special missions forces that are particularly successful are allowed to have their own emblems."

    - According to WEG Dark Force Rising Sourcebook (page 48) "Army troopers make up the vast majority of the Empire's ground soldiers, especially in light of the dwindling number of stormtroopers. Army troopers wear grey uniforms, protective helmets and partial body armor." The book describes Imperial Army Assault Troopers specifically, "In addition, the army deploys many specialized units and soldiers. Assault Troopers, for example, are trained to work in tandem with assault vehicles such as walkers and hover craft. Like the vehicles they fight with, they are heavily armed and armored, carrying maximum fire power into battle with them." Stats are provided for regular Imperial Army Troopers and Imperial Army Assault Troopers.

    - According to Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare (page 125) "Army troopers piloted most of the Empire's ground assault vehicles, and sometimes served aboard warships as marines. In battle they wore partial body armor and helmets over gray jumpsuits."

    - Based on the design of Imperial Army Troopers by Grenadier Models for the WEG Star Wars Miniatures Battles game...
The helmet worn by the Imperial Army Trooper is the same as the AT-AT commander style with the six screw caps around the lower edges of the helmet   Its hard to say if there is a range finder antenna, but there's definitely the range finder block greeblie on all helmets. No armor is worn by regular troopers, only the officers have body armor. The regular troopers appear to be wearing a flight suit, jack boots, gauntlets, and belt with Imperial style buckle. The officers appear to be wearing a tunic and jodhpurs pants. They have body armor similar to the AT-AT commander and Snow Trooper. Regular troopers have blaster rifles, blaster carbines, or blaster pistols. Only the units with blaster pistols have "Han Solo" style holsters. The others have no holsters at all. The Imperial Army Officers are only seen with E-11 carbines. They do not have grenades, holsters, or ammo pouches. The Imperial Army Trooper with the DLT-19 has two ammo pouches in front and two in the back on his belt. The Imperial Army Trooper with the E-11 long rifle variant (or possibly DLT-20a) has two ammo pouches in front and three in the back on his belt, and two grenades. The Imperial Army Trooper with the E-11 carbine has two ammo pouches in front and two in the back on his belt. The Imperial Army Trooper with the DH-17 pistol has two ammo pouches in front and two in the back on his belt, and one grenade. There are no Imperial Navy Trooper style drop boxes on any of their belts. There are other pouches, probably Vietnam era in style. There are no harnesses worn by any trooper variant - all have the standard Imperial style belt.
Hope some of this helps. I have a mountain of material available to me although I haven't gone through it all. I did an internship at West End Games while in college in the 1990's and have a copy of almost every book they published and hundreds of their miniatures. I also have access to tons of molds and pieces to put together most variants. I'll be at Industrial Light and Magic and LucasFilm in mid-March and see if I can get any info about these troopers in future productions, but they're pretty tight lipped about this stuff.

Agreed -- many of the Pantone definitions given by Dave Filoni don't match the characters to my eye.  Even the Hexachrome Black used by both the Inquisitor and Kallus look different.  Shading, luminosity, and color adjacency must play a big factor here.  Even with these definitions from the source, I still feel we're running into the old "real prop vs. as seen on screen" debate.

Here's some info on Hexachrome Black that I dug up:

So obviously we're taking the color matching conversion one step further and trying to match digital colors to pantone colors to fabric colors, which reflect light differently due to their various weaves and materials.

But in following the description of the hexachrome being "more chromatic," and the screenshots of Kallus' and the Inquisitor's uniforms, I'd interpret the hexachrome black as being a material with a bit of shine to it, compared to a more matte or flat black.

Hexachrome black is used in Kallus' chest panel and yoke, and used in the Inquisitor's armor.  These are both "highlight" areas intended to stand out, and interpreting their expression in fabric I'd say something with just a little bit of shimmer or gloss would do well, rather than looking for an actual lighter tone.
