  1. I was walking in downtown San Diego for the 2009 Holiday Bowl Parade (on the way to the event) and caught the worst stair from a black gentleman on the sidewalk. He was dressed nicely and mumbled under his breath as I walked by. I'm quite sure he thought I was a nazi.

  2. I bought a hard 2.5 point baseball card protector. The kind you slide the card in to protect it. I placed velcro on one side and stuck the other into the inside of my officer hat. Stuck it directly in the center of the crown of the head. I place my DL, Credit Card and $20 in it and it fits well.

Has always woked for me

  3. I still stand by my rant  . I would love to get a game going here in San Diego, but it seems everyone wants to play the "latest and greatest" edition. I have no interest in 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 thousand etc!!!!

I like 2nd edition/AD&D hybrid games. If anyobe lives near San Diego and your willing to give it a test run, let me know! I don't mind being the DM.......

Since when is Star Wars for boys?

When we think of bullying, we often think of older kids – middle and high schoolers. But as writer Carrie Goldman learned, bullying knows no age limit and even the youngest kids can be cruel.

Goldman’s daughter Katie, an adorable first-grader with cute glasses and a sweet smile, was recently on the receiving end of some harsh treatment by some of her classmates. And as is so often the case, Katie became a target merely for being different.

No, she’s not gay or a minority. Katie is a female Star Wars fan.

Katie’s troubles started when she chose a Star Wars backpack and water bottle when buying school supplies earlier this year. For months, she happily filled that Star Wars bottle with water each morning and proudly drank from it each afternoon at school.

But recently, Katie ditched her Star Wars bottle for a plain pink one. She gave her mom a vague excuse about needing a larger bottle but Goldman suspected something else was up. After being pressed, Katie confessed that the boys at school were making fun of her for drinking out of a Star Wars bottle. Insisting that such things were for boys only, they harassed her to the point where she gave up her beloved Star Wars bottle just to make it stop.

    Her mom was devastated.

I hugged her hard and felt my heart sink. Such a tender young age, and already she is embarrassed about the water bottle that brought her so much excitement and joy a few months ago.

Is this how it starts? Do kids find someone who does something differently and start to beat it out of her, first with words and sneers? Must my daughter conform to be accepted?

I know exactly how she feels. And sadly, she’s absolutely right. That is how it starts. Kids naturally want to fit in with their peers and it doesn’t take much pressure to make a child feel uneasy about themselves and what they love.

The question is what makes kids feel the need to pressure each other into conforming? I don’t the answer but I do know that Katie is a lucky girl to have a mom like Goldman. She not only tuned in enough to see that Katie was dealing with something at school, but encouraged her daughter to be herself and bring that bottle anyway.

Katie is packing the Star Wars bottle again but her mom believes a little extra support couldn’t hurt. She’s asked other female Star Wars fans to comment and let Katie know that she’s not the only girl who thinks Star Wars rocks. Comments on the original article reached over 1,200 before being turned off. But over at EPBOT, a site dedicated to “geekery, girliness and goofing off,†you can still send Katie a message of support.

May the force be with you.

I spoke with Carrie Goldman again today. She advises to send any correspondence to:

    Katie Goldman

    P.O. Box 574

    Evanston, IL 60204-0574

She did mention that it was her hopes that we refrain from sending toys (per se), but all else are welcome. If someone did want to send toys, she requests that a donation be made on Katie's behalf to a local children's charity.

I think we should post this up and let the membership sink there teeth into it

  5. Greets IOC,

Please take a listen on the link below. It's a proto-type for the possible launch of a Legion Radio Station in 2011. This may or may not happen depending on the feedback from the membership and who gets elected. None the less, I have set one up on my personal web page and would appreciate any feedback you wish to give.

What you like about it and what you don't. This is still in the early stages, so please keep that in-mind. I have set it up to auto strean over your speakers when you are on the page. It streams using JAVA that most computers have installed. It is FREE to download if you don't have it already. Thanks for the input!

  6. Hello Troopers,

Over the past year I have observed all kinds of Star Wars Swag. Starting in GA, I noticed that several troops designed Custom Black Swat BDU tops in a myriad of different ways. Some wore them with there KTB Garb and others wore them working the 501st Fan table or maybe simply while they were roaming the convention floor (off-duty).

I am speaking of Imperial Shoulder Boards. I first saw them worn by Kris Kuipers (GA CO) at Dragon*Con 2009. He had made a few sets for the GA Garrison. Kris doesn't have the time to fabricate mass orders or open that service up legion wide. With all that said, they are such a neat and good looking item, I decided to find a vendor that could handle mass orders and had a good turn-around time.

I found a gentleman named Carl that primarily does Pilot Uniforms and custom Pilot Shoulder Boards. I worked with him to design a custom made Imperial Shoulder Board. If you care to order a set, here is the link:

I have attached an image of the mock-up he made for me during the "ironing out process." Note that the colors etc are custom to your liking.
