My advice is to just save up and buy/make the specific costume that you want to the most. Take your time & don't rush. Costuming is generally expensive by anyone's standards, but you'll gain the most satisfaction from going slow, researching, and pinpointing the best costume components for your body and budget.

I have bought their TFA TK & got it & assembled in time for CVII.
I've also bought their standard Line Officer & ANH TK which should ship in a few months.
    Pre-orders were up front payment.

There are actually two sets. Usually, only the one set is visible, looking directly at the back, but the second set can be seen when you spread the tunic out.

Look for accurate boots first. Like Mike said, that will be a cost that's hard to get around.

Yes, they are actually PVC, despite their headlining description. They're fine for L1.

I've started to collect the new Star Wars and Vader comics, mostly to check for new characters etc, haven't started reading them yet, but my comic book dealer has been enthusiastic about the series

[MODERATOR NOTE: THIS RANK CHART THREAD IS NOW CONSIDERED OBSOLETE.  PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING THREAD FOR THE CURRENT RANK CHART USED BY THE IOC: ]

    [/END OF MODERATOR NOTE]

This the official guide to illustrate all canon officer ranks recognized by the IOC. It is compiled with reference from the original movies, and official EU sources. It is created from a costuming point of view, and not meant to explain every rank's importance or how they differ from movie to movie (that's what fan fiction is for). It is just a simple chart that shows what rank officially goes on what costume. Code cylinders are intentionally excluded, and can be referenced in the CRLs.

Note Rogue one/Solo ranks are only compatible with Rogue one uniform style

COMMAND STAFF EDIT: There is a more current/comprehensive rank bar guide in this location:
(We are keeping this post intact for the time being)

I like to keep my hair "high and tight" like I did when I was in the (US) Navy. As far as facial hair goes, I stay clean shaven but sideburns or a mustache work fine too. ( Look at Admiral Ozzel).

The pants that Cosplaysky offer are more of a base to have tailored. I told them to make mine three inches thinner than their normal pants & that seemed to actually work. lol.

If you dyed your uniform black, it would then be a staff officer.

This. This has been my sticking point. If you're a size 7-8 foot, you'll probably be okay. If you're north of a size 9, you're going on a quest worthy of two short guys with a ring walking to a volcano.....

I have a lot of different costumes, but I'll just share my IOC ones.
My second Legion-approved costume was the Navy Trooper. I always liked that they were the henchmen that are practically in every scene in the OT, yet most ordinary people can't seem to remember them. I also thought it would be fun to do the Star Wars version of what I felt was equivalent to my job (at the time) in the military.

    ESB version

Then I thought it'd be fun to do an officer

    A little non-canon fun

I receive many questions about sewing terms all the time. Honestly, I can't sew and don't recognize or understand many common sewing terms when they are tossed out there. However, I have found this online resource that might answer some questions folks may have about what is this and what is that. Enjoy!

bjsavage7 got a reaction from RhianDeGirondel in Rank Bars Holes in corners?
Yes. We know for certain that many of the ranks in ESB and ROTJ had small holes in the corners of the metal strips. While there's no evidence these holes have any practical purpose/meaning to the insignias or how they are attached, but are most likely details left over from the actual item used to make the props. I.e. Screw holes in project box cover strips.
