  1. Hey all,

Curious if anyone has heard about Star Wars weekends for this year or not. I know by this time last year we had gotten the "official" nod from Disney, but I haven't seen a thread out in the Legion forums to join in this year yet. Did the nod not come yet? Or is everything being handled on the FL Garrison level this year? Inquiring minds would like to know. :) Going to be down at Disney for the first SWW this year and figured I'd give marching another go as well since it was such a blast last year.

  2. Thanks for the response BJ. :) This is what I figured on all counts actually, including the LFL wanting the Empire to look clean and tidy and professional. :)

I have seen a couple folks in the IOC with beards while wearing their costumes, so figured it wasn't going to be an issue, but was curious if there was more of an unofficial official policy or something...

  3. Curious about this one as we have a cadet who is talking the route of pulling his own armor to make his first build to join and we were discussing the possibiliy of him going crewman in the interim.

Is there an official or an unofficial policy about facial hair for helmetless characters (aside from those that are unique face characters that *need* to be beared or clean shaven that is!)? This cadet has a full beard and long hair. Hair goes up under the cap, but what about the beard? Is that OK? I know mustaches work and are allowed, and I have one myself, also those cool late 70s side burns are encouraged, but what about beards? Yeah military men usually don't have obvious beards and you see zero bearded officers in the films, but is there an official restriction against them?

    Thanks in advance all!

  4. Ok.I am thinking my local hobby store for hat pins and the like for my rank badges since I can't use magnets due to my pacemaker. Anybody have any other sugestions for makeing the rank bar stay in place? ...asides from ducktape...

Near each end of my rank bar I have tie tack pins glued to the back. Holds it solidly in place without magnets or velcro peeking out and keeps it from spinning as well from only having a single pin.

  5. Not doubting your skills, bro. Just thinking that scope looks like its molded to the main body of the blaster. Lots of bondo needed & just easier to use a regular Hasbro one. Also more accurate to use a Mauser replica. Not sayin' you couldn't do it well though. ;)

The scopes on these are tighter to the bodies of the blaster than the hasbro ANH DL-44s, but it wouldn't be too hard to remove it and replace it. I definitely enjoy blaster modeling as another facet of this hobby. :)

Currently have resin parts and bits for: Leia's Endor blaster, a TB blaster, a jango blaster and Lando's general blaster at home waiting for some attention. Also broke down and bought someone else's SE-14R blaster pistol for eventual use with my TIE Pilot, since I've not found parts that I found appropriate enough to serve as a base for custom building one...have more than enough blasters to cover way too many costumes. Cranky because I've come to the realization that I am never going to see my Cushman's long gun based on the MG-38 and since they won't respond to communication now have to go and cancel the payment through my credit card if I can. Sigh...Had just ordered one to display at home, but am sad that it won't be coming now. :(

  6. At this point in the ACD, only the Veers AT-AT Commander costume build is an approvable costume in the legion as far as I am aware. I have seen the armored officer from the Battlefront games brought up, but it only appears in that one place in that shown form. The Veers build has Helmet, chest, back and belt front armor pieces, but no knee or shoulder bells of any kind.

There has also been talk about an AT-AT commander in a one piece jumpsuit like the AT-AT drivers, but wearing the Veers armor because the drawing of Veers in the New Essential Guide to Characters book is drawn that way. It is also not really an allowed build because that pic in that book is the only reference so far found to shoe Veers or any AT-AT commander for that matter, wearing a jumpsuit with the armor.

On my personal opinion I would love to do an AT-AT commander without having to drop another $400+ on a second officer uniform in olive and using a jumpsuit instead. Also would be really cool to see a staff officer version of the Armored commander with white chest and back armor leading a stormy unit as well, or if they wanted to stay closer to the original with TX black armor pieces. I think that would be pretty sweet.

That said, pretty much every AT-AT/Armored Commander officially approvable these days is based on Veers as he appeared in ESB and Veers alone.

  7. My jodphurs have zero pockets, so I cart a small suitcase with all my gear in it. Case is also big enough to hold my IN helmet if I am doing IN for the event. Less wearing outside of events means less likely to get it filthy dirty, spill food or beverages on it or get it covered with cat hair from my home. I have had 3-4 cats living in the house since long before joining and somehow I have not gotten a *single* piece of cat hair on my staff officer blacks ever. Still amazed that such has been possible. :D My straight leg IN pants, which I excitedly scored at a thrift store for $4 (!!!!!) do have pockets in them, but since they were going to be tucked into boots I didn't worry too much that they were about 2" too short for my leg length. They look kind of dorky with real shoes. Hahahahaha!

I also like to be able to take my boots off after tropping in them for however long the event is. Gives the feet a break as well. As Julie said a lot of troops only have a single dressing area so I have seen most of the women either show up with their underarmor on under their clothes, or partially uniformed up when they get there too. Most, though, just go to the ladies to get the underarmor on. Of course you can't always avoid some awkwardness in such situations like when we had a female captain rex join us for a troop and as an officer I didn't need to get dressed right away so was helping her suit up. Was near impossible to not have my hands in some intimate places during the process, but somethings can't be helped. I've been around the block more than my fair share of times in life, but you would have thought I had never seen a woman before in my life the way I was blushing a couple times while attaching some of her armor straps. :)

  8. Ok. Here are pics of my power 5 and model 44. I really like carrying the model 44, because without the flash suppressor it just looks different and I like that. Take lots of ribbing because it is so "small" though. ;)

Chuckling that the "Made in China" on the side of the model 44 is so obvious in the attached pic. :)

  9. Guess I need to get pics up of my mersonn power 5 now so I can join the clique. :) I made mine out of a resin ESB DL-44. I didn't drill holes in the suppressor because in the pics on parts of star wars the holes looked like they were filled in instead of drilled through to me. Found some piston parts for an RC biplane at my local hobby shop to cut down to the side rib pieces. The scope was a PS/2 mouse plug connected to the stiff cable of an old gameboy advance external screen light. I didn't quite cut my barrel down as short on my power 5, so it is the longer barreled more accurate version. ;)

Before I did the power 5, I did a mersonn model 44 for my officer which used a plastic air soft mause and pretty much most of the same pieces I ended up using on the power 5, except I didn't have to track most of them down the first time. :)

I'll get some pics taken and post up to the thread soon.

  10. I have been playing TOR off and on and was in the beta. I enjoy the game, but my schedule has kept me from playing much the last couple months and I just disabled my accounts.

I have also played Lord of the Rings Online, City of Heroes/Villains and Star Trek Online. I also played Star Wars Galaxies for ages before they revamped the character system and took out the best part of the game (the ability to switch career and skill paths at your choice, which was just awesome). I've never gotten into the more generic fantasy settings like WoW or Everquest. Most of the MMORPGs pulled me in because they were based on a setting I know or loved (Star Wars, Star Trek and LOTRO) or was an idea I really like (City of Heroes/Villains). I do have tons of other games for my various electronic devices, though. :) Just don't have to time to devote solidly to an MMORPG. TOR was great because I could focus on my class quests and play it more like a standard single player game with the wider scope of an MMORPG.

  11. For me the first thing I noticed is how many people have no idea who you are. On my first troop I walked at Vader's side the whole time and most of the people would come up "Oooo Vader we love you!" and then look at me and say "Who are you supposed to be?" ;)

We actually have a listing of things for officers to remember posted in our garrison academy to help people get better into the role. Some examples:

    1) Never salute. Not a single officer is seen saluting in the films. Nods are acceptable.

    2) Only walk *next* to Vader or the Emperor if you are speaking with them or they are speaking to you. Otherwise stay about a step behind.

    3) While standing still the officers in the films seemed to prefer to have their hands clasped behind their backs and not in the front.

    4) Stick by the "boss" whether it be Vader or the Emperor. You will be their eyes and ears for the event. Help them avoid hazards, without looking like you are helping and inform them if a fan is coming up from behind and trying to get their attention.

    5) In general keep your eyes open as you will usually be the one person able to see the best. Especially important when you mix in denizens as most people in tusken masks can't see much of anything.

    6) Expect to talk to people. Often people will talk to you a lot because they can see your face and aren't staring at blank lenses while trying to communicate.

    7) Posture! Posture! Posture!

    8) Always make sure your uniform is clean, neat and unwrinkled. You are in charge, aside from the boss. Look it!

    9) Have fun! Be imperious and stern, but make sure you and those you interact with have fun!

I know some officers don't like to carry pistols. I prefer to carry a mersonn model-44. Everyone loves blasters and loves to see them and the model 44 makes it clear that while I am armed I am most definitely not doing all the heavy lifting in the shooting department. :) Of course I just have fun customizing blasters too. So my first two were a mersonn model 44 and mersonn power-5 instead of the standard dl-44, dh-17 or e-11.

  12. Lately on several boards I've seen a lot of IDs that are very wrinkled. I try to iron my uniform before every troop - does anyone else? I'm just wondering how it is in your garrisons: do you guys & gals dress sharp or let it loose?

Mine doesn't wrinkle at all so I haven't ironed it, but I think baggy and wrinkled uniforms look terrible and need to be addressed. Officers are supposed to look sharp, and in charge, not lazy and slothful...:)

  13. Just got some pictures this weekend of me as an IN checking out books to a customer in the children's section of a local library with Vader looking over my shoulder. :) Happy to report that the kids checking out books had about 6 books and fully half of them were Star Wars related. :)
