  1. Hi Nicholas,

I’m a little concerned that your costume is brown and not olive as it should be, but I am hoping it is the lighting.  The best way to confirm this is compare against another olive costume. Is it possible that you know someone else with the same colour costume? If so, could I please have a comparison photo (e.g. both of you standing side by side, or both tunics laying together)?

Could the loose thread on your cap be removed?

Can I see a photograph of the curve of your belt buckle please?

    Many thanks

  2. Hi Robert,

I have now reviewed your submission for Imperator with your General Tagge.

Although you to have a quality costume, I do have a couple of things that I would like to see altered.  Apart from what I mention below, your costume is certainly of the required standard in all other areas.  So I do encourage you to make these modifications.

Jodhpurs. Your jodhpurs to my eye do not appear to have the correct shape. This point has caused me to do some quite extensive research, as the first question that you will ask is, "what is the correct shape". The answer to this question is gained from looking at numerous sources.  Finding reference is not an easy task, as most officer references are from the waist up.  Basically, I believe the correct shape to be:- an extension of the natural outward curve from the belt, to the tunic, to the flare of the jodhpur, the convex shape that naturally comes inwards towards the knee.

Here is an outline of the shape of your jodhpurs.

Hat. I don’t believe General Tagge was ever depicted with cap. However, it would make sense that all Imperial Officers wear the same style cap. It looks like the crown on your cap is too large.  This reduces the conical look that caps should have. You should also wear the cap lower on the back of your head, and the brim should be higher up your forehead.

    Here is a visual comparison.

I hope that all makes sense to you? Like I have said previously, the rest of the costume is certainly of the required level. I also especially like the Tagge style sideburns - very nice touch!

  3. Hi Weijuan,

I have reviewed your costume, and would like to make the following comments.

Boots - nice looking Knobelbecher style.

Flight-suit - nice fitting, good proportion, pockets in the right places, nice vinyl cogs.

Gloves, Compad, Code cylinders, Belt and buckle - all accurate.

Helmet - I'm not sure whether it is the photograph, but from the front, the flare does not seem to be wide enough.

From the photo's below, you can see that the flare is almost as wide as the troopers shoulders, and there is almost an horizontal oval shape to the top.

    star-wars4-movie-screencaps.com-7282.jpg

    star-wars4-movie-screencaps.com-7659.jpg

The side views look to have just the right amount of flare at the back, so I'm hoping it's the angle of the photograph.

Could you retake the photo from the front so I can double check the flare?

What reference did you use for the ear wells of this helmet? Could I please see a close-up photograph of the ears?

On the helmets plus side, I particularly like the screen accurate foam padding in the helmet. Is it possible to move it further into the helmet without altering the fit? If not, then this is fine, it's just a suggestion for improvement.

If you've got any questions, please let me know.

  4. When the Vader visits the Death Star rebuild and is greeted by Moff Jerjerrod, there are scanning crew in the receiption party. Grab a screenshot and you'll see the AT-AT Driver Glove Greeblie.
I would look and post a picture myself but WiFi here is flakey at best.

  5. Hi Joseph,

Thank you for providing those extra photos showing the detail I asked for.

There is one final detail that I need you to adjust before I certify you.

Your collar requires a modesty panel to be fitted. This prevents any skin being visible in the gap between the collar join.

This is a standard alteration for the Anovos costume.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

  6. Hi Joseph,

I have now reviewed your submission, and require a couple of adjustments.

    • Hat looks good
    • Rank bar and code cylinders appear to be correct
    • Your Tunic looks a good fit, and I can see most of the required seems apart from one.  I can’t see the 2 inch dart at the top of the yoke (just below the gap in the collar). Is it there or has the camera not captured it well?
    • Jodhpurs are a good fit and not too flared
    • Can you move your belt up to cover the middle seam of your tunic? Also could you please post a photo showing the horizontal curve of the buckle?
    • Boots are good.
    • Gloves are also good.

In general you have a smart, crisp, good looking costume and with just a couple of adjustments and photo retakes required.

  7. Firstly, can I say that I totally understand where you are coming from.

Jackboots in the larger sizes are very few and far between, and if you do find them are excessively expensive.

My concern with your boots is purely the v-shape, as buckles can easily be painted.

This v-shape does unfortunately come under the "embellishment" part of , "Free of laces, decorative stitching, buckles on the instep or any other embellishments" in the CRL, as it is for decoration and offers no functional purpose being that high up on the boot. If it is required for a functional purpose then it should be on the inside or made somehow invisible.

I hope that makes sense, but please feel free to challenge, or let me know if you wish me to retract your submission.

  8. Hi Kirk,

I have now reviewed your costume, and unfortunately I can't pass it just yet.
I do like your jumpsuit. It does have a nice fitted look to it, and the pockets appear to be in the correct proportion and position.
You Hat is also looks good with the necessary stitching.
The belt fits the bill and the buckle and snap looks good.
Your boots, unfortunately, have got a v-shaped cut on the outside at the top backed with elastic.
This v-shape shouldn't really be there.
Also the buckles shouldn't be shiny.
I know this must be a disappointment, and fixing this means a new pair of boots, but I would encourage you to replace your boots as the rest of your costume certainly seems to meet the required standard.
If you need any further clarification, please let me know.

  9. Hi Heidi,

Thank-you for your submission for Executor, which I have now reviewed.

There are a few things that I would like to see altered before I issue this Award, but all are totally achievable and will improve your "crewman" look.

    • The thigh pockets will need to be re-positioned to be below and in-line with the hip pockets with a small (no more than 1cm) gap between them.
See this diagram for pocket placement reference.flightsuit.png

    • The jumpsuit seems a little baggy at the top of the boots. You can tailor the legs and/or add stirrups to keep them firmly in the boots.

    • The snap on the belt appears to be more than 1" away from the buckle. It looks like there is extra leather on your belt, so you shouldn't have too much problem adjusting this without leaving a hole.

I think these points will certainly raise your costume standard to that extra level above clearance.

If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to help.

  10. Hi Heidi,

I am now reviewing your submission.

Please could you provide a few more photos of the following?

    • A close-up of the belt, showing the curve in the buckle
    • A close-up of the boots
    • A close-up of the compad
    • A close-up of the hat
    • A close-up of the gloves

They look okay to me, but I will need to make sure.

On your flight-suit, I can see that the four lower pockets on your hips/legs are currently not alined, and will need to be repositioned.  The hip pockets and the lower leg pockets will need to be moved to be in-line with each other, with a small gap between them.  Here is a diagram of the pocket placement for reference.
    flightsuit.png

Also, there does appear to be some bunching of the flight suit at the top of the boots.
This can be avoided if you add stirrups, and will improve the military look a great deal.

So, there are a couple of minor tweaks needed, but nothing too drastic.
    Good effort.

  11. Hi Rene,

I have reviewed your costume against Base and Level 2 criteria, and unfortunately I believe there are a few things that will require adjusting before I can issue an Award.

The main issue is the material of the costume, or at least the way the photograph makes it look.  The CRL states, "Fabric is a medium weight suiting material exactly matching the pants".  The photos above unfortunately show the material to be light-weight, hence the wrinkles in the material. A medium-weight fabric would not have these wrinkles.  If these wrinkles can be removed, and the material is a medium-weight fabric, then please take new photos and resubmit.

Hopefully you will be able to resolve this, and let me have some more photographs.

I suggest working with an IOC Advisor to get their assistance.

  12. Hi Rene,

I can see that you have some of the modifications that were recommended earlier, and your costume does look better for the changes.

I do feel that the jodhpurs still need a little more tailoring as there is a little too much bunching at the top of the boots.

Also, is there any way the creases can be taken out of the material, using something like starch, to give it that upper-class look?

  13. Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for submitting a request for Imperator Award.
I have reviewed your costume against the L3 requirement.
At this moment, there is one thing that I would like to see changed. Although you do have the buckle at the top of the boots, the triangular adjustment part towards the rear is not present.
This picture from the CRL shows the strap.
    http://databank.501st.com/mw501/images/c/c3/Imperial_Crew_Boots.jpg
    Everything else meets the standard.
Your cobbler did a good job on fixing your boots and I'm sure they can replicate the above image without too much trouble.
If you need any further information, please let me know.

    -Tristan
