Guys, I think from reading this I can help clarify. In the military we have an MOS. Or military occupational specialty. Which could be anything from fueler, water purification, infantry, driver, pilot, tank Gunner ect. each designated by different pins we wear. but we all have the same rank system in a branch of service regardless of job. Private, corporal, sgt, captain, general etc. Which for the U.S. Army is a separate insignia.
So a science officer is a job title. designated via the color combo on a rank bar. ( like our job pins) And a rank of colonel designated by order and number of tiles.(like our rank insignia)
so it it could be said that the rank bars we use show our job and rank.
Does this make sense? If not I can try to explain it differently.
Hope this clarifies the situation here guys.

The one shown is considered a commanders rank bar. And this might help you find a good rank for you. I based mind off my age compared to what an active officer would be career wise.

Very true. They were what appears to be off duty on jeda. That's showing us they have a human side to them.
