If a star destroyer could throw up shields to keep the atmosphere in when it’s hull is pierced (as it did in the first season), I am sure the bridge could too.

I have been thinking of doing a weekly post on the lore of different officers from the Star Wars saga.  Officers from the Republic, the Empire, the First Order and all the nooks and crannies of all the 40 years of material out there: the movies, but also the comic books, video games, novels, role playing games... you name it.  The history is rich and Lucasfilm does do a pretty good job of curating it all.  

I don't know if this is the best place to post it, but that is ok, it can be moved later.  So feel free to post what you want, add to these or comment on any of these kinds of posts.  You don't have to follow my format.  I plan on putting in the era, the service, rank and name of the characters in the title or a description of the lore if it is more general.  I have met so many people that have been fans of Star Wars for years who say "I had no idea that existed"  I can't begin to tell you the times I have shoved material into the hands of people saying "This is right up your alley".  I hope to give back here by doing this.

No green line officers wore green ponchos in Rogue One because they never made any.  Black security branch officers wore black ponchos.... and Krennic had his.
 
this may be different with the upcoming Solo movie, but we will have to see.  I want a green one anyway because I will wear it to cons, not official Troops.
 
It makes sense that they would be there, but to do so would open the door to a lot of things that “make sense” in some people’s minds but not to others.  So for now......

I never could figure out where the name came from, and agree that there needs to be a fresh discussion on what to call them. "Operations" or "Security" Officers makes a bit more sense.

The imperial Starfleet was founded on Empire Day, in the speech given by Emperor Palpatine in the Galactic Senate announcing the cessation of hostilities in the war and the betrayal of the Jedi.  The service had been the Grand Army of the Republic from the start of the war three years earlier.  Ships by Rendeli Stardrive and Kuat Drive Yards were provided for use by the Republic Clone Armies from Geonosis.  While these first ships were crewed by Clones of various ranks the need for human crews was seen.  A call went out immediately for volunteers to fill the gaps of the Clone’s experience and training.
 
The first volunteers came from the ranks of the Senate Judicial Forces, the investigative arm of the Republic Senate.  Admiral’s Wulff Yularen and Admiral Screed came from here.  Others came from system defense forces from other worlds or even trader captains that signed up for the duration of the emergency.  Their backgrounds, training, traditions and experience were varied, but invaluable.  Many of them served as Captains or Admirals in the fleet.  After the war, some of them were selected to be clone templates for the new legions of Stormtroopers replacing the Clone Troopers..
 
When the purge of the Jedi was executed, most ships and fleets had human officers shadowing the Jedi.  They were able to take full command quickly in what was a smooth transfer of authority.  The human officers were not conditioned to execute the jedi on command as the clones were and needed some explaining as to why it was necessary.  Many of them had served closely with their Jedi Generals for years.   Below is some of the first exchange these officers had with their new emperor.   Those not with the new program were adjusted.

I'm for it. Marvel-Disney has made very few missteps, even their 'bad' films are still enjoyable and rewatchable, and retain substance while reaching a broad audience. There's never really any significant "taking my toys and going home" responses to it. They need to take a long look at the MCU and apply what has worked so well to the Star Wars universe, and this could be a solid first step towards doing so.

Assuming he's born in 1 BBY - 0 ABY that only makes him 5 years older than Kylo. But even so, I'd hope he wasn't at the school, considering what happens lol. 
 
I think the possibility of him having grown up with Poe though is likely, Poe was born in 2 ABY and Shara Bey was also at the Battle of Endor, so she may have known Hera. 
 
I really hope we get some canon info about what happens with Ahsoka between "A World Between Worlds" and the epilogue. 

He would be about 35 at the time of The Force Awakens.  Maybe too old for Luke’s school, but his family does know Ashoka

I didn't even think of the possibility of him being one of Luke's students... or maybe even a Knight of Ren... (doubtful... I really don't want that to be a thing...)

I'm with Morti, I was left with mixed emotions after the credits. On the plus side: My favorite blue boy is still unbeaten (Deus Ex Machinas don't count), we saw Navy Troopers, the return of some other Thrawn related stuff life the Dreadnaughts and a special captain. I also really liked what they did with Rex and Pryce in particular. I also think like Robert wrote that my first guess got confirmed and the new series will play between ROTJ and TFA.
 
But before I build a final opinion on some other things I've to rewatch the finale.

Pryce was a stellar villain, I loved her throughout the series and through reading Thrawn. It's a shame she'd "served her purpose" I guess but she was a brilliant character. <3 She remains on the "to do" costume list.

Also worth remembering: Alliance is due to be set, I think, between series 3 and series 4. So we're not going to be given any information regards what happened after the jump.

Which ALSO means... the doors are wide open for MORE Thrawn content.  Aw yissss

I'm also throwing support behind the trenchcoat idea if that is something you'd be interested in.  Would like to see more of them out and about!

What Robert said. Although it "might make sense" that line officers would have an olive-green poncho, they only ever produced black ponchos for the movie... So... black is the only approved color. 

We now have the 29 years to fill after the Battle of Jakku and before the Battle of Starkiller Base.
 
i wonder if Jason is force sensitive?  I wonder if he was a student at Luke’s school?

I really, really want to see Sabine's adventures post-finale.

Spoiler-ish? maybe?

If we don't see their adventures on the hunt for Ezra in another animated series, Sabine or you-know-who would be a great second POV character for a Thrawn book, as Pryce was to the first one.

A lot of mixed feelings from me. I've been a big fan of the series, admittedly haven't followed it from the beginning. Came in a little late. XD But.. yeah it felt a little bit "...oh, okay" for me.
Excited to see what the future holds though, now that this is tied up reasonably neatly.
