We got our first real look at Admiral Versio from the new Battlefront 2 game today.  He'll be giving missions to Inferno squad around the time of Return of the Jedi.  His uniform is a fusion of the ANH and the Rogue One ISB tunics.  More photos to follow.

buckrogersbarker got a reaction from Paggeldiwwer in Uniforms, Rankbars, CRL Methodology Oh My!
If you are expanding this beyond rank bars and want to go into uniforms too, let's treat this like militaries have treated uniforms down through the ages, the same historical precedent that John Mollo, the original costume designer for ANH to Gly Dillion, the costume designer for Rogue One used to create these uniforms.  They are both alive and accessible.  You can talk to them at any time to get their ideas and what they were going for, what was made, how it was made and for why.

Ranks are variable, ALL of them.
Accouterments like code cylinders and belt boxes are variable.
Other accessories are variable depending on the weather and the job at hand like trench coats and ponchos.
This variability should be there for level 1 requirements.
We should not stifle the entry level requirements for new members.
We should not restrict the creativity that allows new talented members to make new uniforms from new source material.  Because those talents might be used to help everyone at some point down the road.

We must acknowledge also that the animation models are primarily for rendering of the graphics, not for the making of the costume in real life.  It should be permitted that a member be able to make the costume for the "real world" or the "animated world" as they choose.  For example, the Rebels series imperial officers have a single seam down the back of their jackets.  That is for ease of rendoring the character.    The creator should be able to make either a princess seam or a single seam.  It makes no sense that how they make the costume be dictated to them by people that don't sew, can't read or make patterns, don't watch the source material and have general contempt for the character and source material in the first place.  That has been a factor in the past.... and it has run people off.  There will be animated Star Wars series and video games every year for the rest of our lives and we must recognize this and be able to help new creators while maintaining our standards.   It will happen one way or another and there will be more demand for it.

I have no problem with trying to look like a specific character for level 2 or level 3, but it has no place in level 1.

I do not look like any face character, but I can make a pretty damn good imperial officer just being who I do look like.

how and why did it change to what it is this spring?  Who made those decisions?  Where was the discussion?

I literally have a chart with every single permutation of imperial officer rank and I have noted the ones that come from canon sources, movies, comics, games, books, figures, animation.  I can back up anything I wear with reference photos.

Why is this even an issue at level 1?
Why are some people allowed to wear ranks only seen in the comics and others are told they cannot wear ranks seen in the same comics?
I won't name people, but this is not equitable.

The original CRL prior to this spring brought more consistency than what is currently in place today.

if it is by that definition Carri, shouldn't only the Fahrenheit 451 uniforms have rank badges?  Those are the only black officer uniforms with ranks in ANH and the entire original trilogy for that matter.

unless.. you return this to what it was before for level 1... any and all ranks are permissible on all uniforms (provided that the correct guidance be provided: don't wear a hat as a moff, white uniforms should only be a grand admiral, none longer than 6 cubes, none taller than 2 cubes, etc).

If you want to do a specific character make it a level 2 or 3 requirement.... not level 1.

I have more when I get home, but there were a variety of black uniformed staff officers that wore double rank badges in Dark Horse comic's "Dark Times" which took place a year after the events of Revenge of the Sith.

The CURRENT trend of Lucasfilm in its new movies, comics, games, and animated series is to show double rank bars existing on ALL uniforms side by side with the single rank bars.

I'm relatively new to the discussion regarding rank bars but as someone who now spends a great deal of time producing them, there is no question this is a topic that needs my attention. I am definitely concerned by any sudden retcon, particularly in the seeming absence of discussion or input from the detachment at large.

As the former CRL manager for the BHG, I absolutely understand the challenge of developing, adjusting, and completing CRL's but they are there to serve as a guide to ensure our members are meeting minimum standards and if we need to make multiple versions to do so, it should be done.

I've always believed that any rank bar should be able to be used for any Officer style uniform at level 1.  It's folly to believe that only the ranks we saw in the movie exist on that uniform (an in fact requires willful ignorance of non-movie sources).

I'm fine with restricting the ranks for level 2 and 3 (I have a single stack rank bar for that reason as I'm slowly upgrading), but this change was baffling especially as I saw no good discussion on it, nor an announcement that such a big change was being made (it was only brought to my attention when scanning the CRL for my next possible L2/L3 upgrade).

It is confusing at best why not even ranks seen in other official sources are allowed at Level 1.  It's undeniable that double stacks have been seen on the staff officer.  Admittedly I haven't paid attention to Fleet Officer but IMO these accessories should have the same standards across the board for level 1.  There's no logical reason to not allow double stacks on this costume aside from "we just don't want to."

The issue is we can't restrict it to OT.  As Bob said, OT only had the 451 costume with rank bars - and we have never bothered to build that CRL, so the current Staff Officer isn't even ANH - it's either R1 or comics/games/EU.

For example, in BF2 coming out now:

Black(ish, but it's supposed to be black) with double stacked rank bars.

The change was made sometime this year - I know because one of my GMLs asked m as IOC Advisor why that was changed, and I didn't even know it was.  It ws after Celebration if memory serves me, but I can't say that the change wasn't earlier.

If we want to build a 451 CRL and restrict the badges to only those seen in ANH, cool.  But this?  This is more than a hodgepodge mishmash, and was changed without notice.  I would suggest until this is worked out the original text from last year be restored to it.

    Hello hello!

Something caught my eye in an ongoing staff officer build thread, and it was suggested that a CRL discussion thread be created to spin the conversation away from the poor OP's thread:

As a person extremely interested in building a staff officer in the future (I'm a sucker for black uniforms <3) and who'd wanted a captain or lieutenant plaque (purely because they're visually interesting to me) I'm... disappointed to find out that this wouldn't be possible? And I'm struggling to understand particularly why? It's a fairly dramatic change and one which I'm sure the general public won't particularly care about.

A call to action then! I'm fairly new to posting here regularly, so if there was previous discussion here, can those threads be linked so I can read the history behind this decision? I also appreciate that this appears to be a controversial and possibly overdone topic, and I do apologise if I'm dragging the old bones back up to pick over, but I'd honestly appreciate an explanation with refs and reasonings. I had my heart set on my two-line rank plaque!

    Thankyou in advance!

    Hello fellow officers.

more than two years ago, when I became a member here, I noticed (as many before and after me) that it is hard to find a pattern here for the tunic.

I have sewed a few of those tunics since then (as an amateur - it's just a hobby ) and I just made a small photo-documentation of my recent progress.

I photographed the single pieces from which the tunic will be constructed and drawed in the measurements of them. I hope this will help some of you to create an own pattern for your tunic. And even if you haven never seriously sewed before (like me more than two years ago) - just do it, give it a try. You'll like it - believe me It is such a great feeling seeing the progress of your own project. And you do not need to work it out by hook or by crook - take yourselves the time you need. This includes re-opening of some seams sometimes. But you'll to this for the better.

The pattern is designed for my father, so it is customized. That means the single parts are made to meet his measurement - not yours. You will need to alter them to make the tunic fit your own body.

My fathers measurements are: 176 cm tall, weight 76kg, chest is 108cm waist is 110cm, back from neck to hip: 42cm, arm length: 62 cm, neck-circumference: 42cm.

Please alway keep in mind, that we need about 10-15mm of seam-allowance at each and every edge of the fabric. Before you sew all of that together, it appears a lot larger of course

    How to start:

Here are some of the pattern (will try to add more soon) and picture of the build for Line/Staff/Krennic Poncho

    Take note that

    1) Krennic's Cape is much longer then the Line/Staff officer's cape

    2) Krennic front have a pocket. But the Line/Staff officer do not have.

The patterning is pretty easy it is just the sewing the detail of the line can be hard. So do change the needle on the sew machine if you are planing to do it yourself. Using the normal needle can sometime cost the sting to jump a few sticting. Do be careful when sewing waterproof fabric as once you poke a hole, the hole stays.

    Needle: Microtex

The cape is more of a rectangle shape. So cut two of this. And if you have a mannequin, it will be better. so you can pin the cape to the top part nicely.

It will be better to pin and see where you want the below part to be.

This is my test mock up on krennic's pocket. I think it is called a Welt Pocket.
Here are some of the links on how to do it

The Opening of the top cape
ok this is how I did it.

ok. You can see the different in the cape length of it.

If you really want to be more waterproof (not for heavy rain), you can try to spray waterproof spray onto the costume (or for your daily wear too!). But every how and then you have to spray it. Because the waterproof spray do not stay onto the outfit very long. It is really usefull for hats! I did use some of the waterproof spray when I go oversea on my hat or my jacket when there is light rain like England.....

    It looks something like this.

I spoke to my contact and they will provide technical sketches for review.  With their permission I will share them with people here.

I am curious if anyone can find a Belgian Army Motorcycle trench coat.  I would buy it if I could and send it to them to reverse engineer it.

Barring that, just to get to look at one, take photos and document it would be a valuable resource.  We are looking on our own, but if anyone can help with that, it would be greatly appreciated.

that is just about all of them.  The guy smiling in the second to last photo passed by two black uniformed (and trenchcoated) officers who are with a Twilek.  That is why he is smiling.

To my understanding this is a Belgian Army motorcycle trenchcoat.  I am trying to acquire one for reference.  In the meantime I am working with a costume replica company to help produce one.  They do not have the Star Wars license, but the only thing that makes this Star Wars is the belt and belt boxes.  Doing the trench coat as seen should be fair game and they are working on a prototype.  I would be glad to share the results with people here.

I have two other costume jackets that they have made.  Both were not just of impressive accuracy, but quality that would make it last for years.  They specialize in outer garment wear.  I could get one myself made, but I want to have a place that everyone can go and get one.

I am starting on the green one.  I gave them a swatch of the fabric used to make my uniform so they can color match.  I'll let you know what I find out.

I did try gray color on the early stage. It did not work out as what the design was when I was watching the movie again.
Just to show you how it looks like if it was gray color (The top). Base on the research that me and some of the people from IOC.
For the Top Mint color fabric:
    I got from this store
Spotlight - Premium Cotton Sateen Fern

you can kind of see the different with both of the color.

The question on how I wear the top part, I did a collar on kind so I can fit inside. In the early stage, I did try to sew all up in one go, but my head just can not fit inside the collar . so I did like this.

This is how it looks like over all. After I redo and show the right olive color.

Recently at the Edmonton Expo I had an opportunity to get 3D scanned, with the option, if I liked the scans, to get a 3D printed figurine of myself. I thought it was a pretty cool idea, so I got 2, one with Thrawn, the other with Tarkin. There are some weird edge effects on some parts of the scans, but overall I think they came out pretty good. I dont have the money right now to get my own figurine, but one day, I will. Check them out!!
