buckrogersbarker got a reaction from Alay in Grey Uniform..
There is no CRL for him.  There was an effort to have different different members of the armed services shown on the Death Star by the designs of John Mollo, who headed up the costume department.  The black would be something akin to the Nazi SS, the green would be the army, the cream colored uniforms for the ISB would be something of an Air Force.  Admiral Motti was supposed to wear one of these, but he couldn't fit into the uniform so they put the actor in a green one.  There were three grades of uniforms made.  The hero ones were wore by Motti, Tarkin, Tagge and any officer with a speaking role.  The ones in the background would not have pockets for code cylinders because were were never meant to see that kind of detail.  Then there was another step down that is almost single breasted in the jacket.  Including guys with slacks and cheasea boots instead of english riding boots.

I forgot to mention, this general in the center of the screen is in a grey uniform different from the one you see on Romodi and Motti here....and definitely different from Yularen's ISB unfiorm.

Hi my fellow officers.   As a young man growing up in a military family. I got to see my dad react to fireworks.  Not knowing then what I do now. I could see even after 30+ years of my dad in Viet nam, he would be bothered. He would never say it. But as his son, I knew something was off.  My dad served for over 22 years in the us military.  His plane was the most patched aircraft flying in Viet nam that it was called patches.  A C-123 with a rugged crew.

Then, my brother.  A former ranger who was involved in the black hawk down incident and the first gulf war.  At this point. Mom and dad were divorced. My brother was kicked out of the army early. So he moved in with me (high school age at this point.)  and dad. He would hide under his bed at night sometimes.  I remembered my dad and I had to drag him out for work the next day. He never did sleep well.

Then I decided to join up.  I enlisted in the us army.  I was an 11 bravo.  For non military types, that's infantry. Late ninetys at this point in time.  My first time out of the country was Egypt. A operation called bright star. (Traded for a British household cav shirt.) NATO excersie with several countries involved.   Then 2001 rolls around.  War it is.  War it was.  I knew what could happen.  My family has served this nation since before it was a nation.  The cost is high, but its ours to fight for.  For we know the one thing the next generation never inherits is freedom. It has to be earned.

I fought during the invasion and several tours that followed.  I grew up a lot. I was a young man once. The one thing noons tells you is innocence if the first thing you lose the day training starts. Then its down hill from there. You fight hard, not for people at home. But that guy sitting next to you eating the same dehydrated bag of food you are.  You make bonds. Strong ones at that.  To this day, I consider those b*****D's closer that my own family.

Then you fight.  The whizzing sound bullets make as they fly past is unsettling.  It sounds like a bee in a tin can.  But you know its someone who wants you dead on the other end.  The horrible part was Afghanistan reminded me of Colorado. Especially in the mountains.  Its a beautiful place to be. But we were not always welcome.

The first friend I lost was hard. We were all close. It leaves a void in a squad.  One the whole platoon feels.  But the firefights were rough. It was so hard to find the enemy sometimes.  So you did your best. Even calling in airstrikes and arty on tree lines.  I love a good A-10 strafing run though. Every time you would hear the ground erupt with shells landing. Then you heard the gun go off.  Nothing like super sonic bullets.

Then close combat.  You have enemies danger close all the time. They would get right up on us. I think they thought we would not call in close strikes like we did.  But it happened. You catch a round.  Burns then hurts.  I don't think I would have made it without some help from above. Namely A couple of air force f-16s with a usmc cobra gunship.

Then more battles, more pain. More friends not going home. It was the nervousness of it all. It was unending. Day zero to the moment you got on the plane to go home. To me when the fireworks start, I'm that young soldier right in the middle of it again.  Making an agreement with god. That if he saw me through this. I would find a quiet place and live my days out in peace. It might sound dumb to some people. But I honestly feel that same firefight effect. Jittery, with a side of "damn I got this!" With a little remorse. Not every combat vet will tell you this. But there are days when looking back I wish I could have done something different to have gotten men home alive.  As part of the triple duce. I lost a great friend. Sgt Mike Esposito. 2004 was a bad year.  The same year I left the army.

But as the fourth of July goes.  It brings up bad stuff for me.  Explosions from fireworks start a memory process for me.  Bad stuff all around.  I can't tell you I'm a good man. Just trying to make up for the crap I've done. Trying to earn still being here.  But for a whole week plus. I'm back to square one.  Reaching for a rifle that's not there. Smelling burnt flesh from nowhere. And being so edgy I can't sleep in bed with my wife. Good thing the couch is comfy.

So in conclusion, if you see a vet on the fourth of July or a week or so later. And they look like they are jumpy.  Think of this. And be there for them.  Its a long road to being OK.  Maybe one day I'll talk about swerving to miss anything in the road in front of me. Especially pot holes.  That's a whole nother  story. But this is more than enough for today.

God speed, and enjoy freedom.  Its worth the sacrifice.

One year ago, on July 7th 2016, I joined the IOC. Starting only with the imagination of being Grand Admiral Thrawn one day. Thanks to all the information and, most of all, the help of the people here at the forum I achieved this goal in November 2016. Many things changed sinced this time, I'm now a Staff Officer too and soon an ISB Officer and Director Krennic will be added to my list of uniforms.

This would not have been possible without you, all the fantastic members of the IOC around the globe, which were providing knowledge, help and high quality props. A big THANK YOU to all of you! And thanks to the IOC-Advisor program I am now even able to give a little bit of my knowledge back to new members of the IOC which is a great thing! But the greatest thing of all is still to bring a smile on the face of the people we meet at troops and conventions and doing good at the same time.

    Long live you all!

Even though it's on hold for now, since I have the rank bar and Rebels belt buckle I decided to wear them and 4 blue tipped code cylinders to a troop Saturday.
    Nobody really noticed.
But when another trooper was telling me that with my side burns and mustache I should do an Admiral Konstantine, I had to laugh.
Anyways, here is me trooping in a proto-Konstantine uniform.

I just wanted to share a great pic that was taken at a Troop last Saturday with the Ft. Wayne, IN Philharmonic's John Williams Concert.  I love doing this kind of troop to get more people to enjoy the Arts. We always get so much appreciation from the staff and Orchestra because of all the extra audience members that attend when we are there.

The first description of Thrawn was specific in "Heir to the Empire" saying it was the white uniform of a warlord.  Everyone jumped on the bandwagon and made the white uniforms one and the same.  Grand General Tagge didn't wear a white uniform.

Sloane has every right to wear both since she is the top person in charge of the empire at the end of Aftermath.

I would hope for a variant instead of the creation of a completely different CRL.  There are numerous differences between the ANH and ESB line officers.  This should be no different.

Maybe change the L1 line as well:
    From
There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration.
    To
There are no stretch panels, snap tabs or decorations, and no buckles, EXCEPT for the optional adjustment strap  matching screen used props

I've noted that several of the Officers in RO (notably Krennic) have true English riding boots (not Wehrmacht style as in the OT) that have adjustment straps on the top of the shafts. I would like to propose that that "no straps" stricture be deleted from the Officer CRLs. Alternatively, will there be a separate CRL for RO Officers (different ranks, belt boxes, boots, etc). Personally, I would suggest adding the variants into the regular CRL.

    Thanks;

So if I'm reading between the lines (and tell me if I'm out of bounds) - First Order Officers that we could only briefly see but have a good shot of (at least front) in the VD would be back in play?  (For that matter, some of the updates in RO that are in the VD?)

A good bit of what you are speaking to and/or asking is more the realm of the Lead LMO and the thoughts behind the path he has set out for the team this year.  And I honestly cannot speak to what any previous team has done.  I can say that this year's team is to build CRL's that are as good and as accurate as they can be with the information available at the time.  If/when better information comes, then that is when the update process comes into play.

Cari, I just wonder how this is going to work with all the new material that is coming out each year.  Things may be good for 40 years of material for the original trilogy (and almost 20 for the prequels), but with some exceptions we haven't been getting detailed photos showing every angle of some of the things people are interested in creating.

And people are going ahead with creating them.  They don't always come here and show their builds until after they are finished.  I know that other detachments are relying on "other" sources of information to create what they are making.  The shore troopers got the color right for their builds by asking the costume designer (and he gave it to them).

In other cases, other garrisons (notably Italy and Germany) had members create a first order general uniform.  The details of the build came from reference photos from Hux, their evidence for generic officers came from actors and other people in the production.  There are no photos to clearly show that other than the word of people involved in the production (though reference photos exist of how to make it correctly).

What I am asking is "is there any mindset to adjust things for the new potential costumes to build them with the best information that is available at the time?"

I ask that because if we are going to wait for very clear and undebatable screen shots, like in a costume compilation book, we may be waiting many years for it.  Other people are asking too.

I have been told on good authority that the imperial gunner for a helmet character has great visibility. As said before you can easily switch between a gunner and bridge crew when you feel comfortable if that's want you want to do.
