  1. It depends if you are going movie accurate or 'casual'. For movie accurate it depends on the film, and colour of uniform. For ease I'd say pick an officer and colour of uniform you like and emulate that.

Personally I love the Staff Officers from ANH and the Line Officers from ESB.

  2. Personally I would use the levels to increase the accuracy requirements. But as Kris says face requirements exist on other costumes. We are not discriminating, if a costumer can achieve a realistic representation of a face character they will clear. Hair colour is easy enough to achieve with wigs / hair dye. We have some excellent female General Hux costumers, the level of detail they have gone to is amazing. Where it's possible to compromise we do. If people can't meet the requirements of a face character, try for a similar generic character, in this case an ISB officer. You could possibly where a cape at non canon events, in the U.K. we only do canon troops, so forgive me if I'm not clear on the exact allowances with non canon, though I have seen a high degree of freedom and interpretation.

You can look through the Executor and Imperator promotion forums as Kalani mentioned, there are some excellent submissions there for you to look through. You could also use the search function to find some build threads, there are many detailed ones on the various sub forums here.

Best of luck on your costume build Moro!

Yes! I'm trying to get people to show their costumes in the best possible way, for Executor and Imperator submissions. These are meant to be inspirational photographs to show other members what can be achieved.

  4. There are now more accurate fan made caps out there, with a better shape, but this isn't bad. A couple of years ago is was regarded as one of the best, but standards are constantly rising. I think these work nicely for crewman, but you could do better for a staff officer. Give a shout for recommendations.

I haven't bought one recently, but have bought a few, six over the years and found they run a size large. So if you think you need a large I'd recommend a medium.

Like you say with the display version of the uniform, promotion versions of the uniform are equally different. This is the 'fun' part of trying to do the costume with limited, and in the case contradictory information.

  6. I march / walk like Lieutenant Sheckil (Jeremy Bulloch) - hands clasped behind my back, chin slightly up. I mentioned this to Mr Bulloch and he said he studied the military and copied it, I believe from the Polish.

When standing my feet about a foot apart, hands behind my back, a look of superiority (e.g. Veers, Piett).

It's very easy to 'over the egg' the look and poses and look more like a pantomime (or cartoon) villain, or have your legs too and look like you're trying to do the box splits.

For me I think of an Officer as quiet contempt - a Roman General, stiff upper lip English Officer - Michael Caine in Zulu / The eagle has landed. Some shout, which is good and the public react well to it, but it doesn't suit me as a person.

Take what you see in the film and put your spin on it.

  7. My interpretation of the CRL would say if you replace the clip, yes, they should pass base clearance.

Basic Style: silver "chalk holder" tube with short clip and blue colored top.

For accuracy I'd say it's worth while investing in replica code cylinders (check out the vendors on this forum), if you can afford to, as they really help sell the look of the costume.

  8. That's okay now, if you can keep these in place, we see the improvements.

Thanks for removing the holster to match the requirements of the current CRL. The blousing on the trousers seems to be acceptable, however there seems to be an excessive amount of bunching around the waist of the jacket, this could be down to the fact the jacket isn't as tailored as it might be (2 of my 3 uniforms required adjustments to the jacket), or if you are lucky you could get away with pulling it straight below the belt - if you can get someone else to assist you after you have attached the belt, pulling the jacket down firmly - that would greatly enhance the look of the uniform.

Another point you may need to address, is the popper on your right shoulder as the jacket closure doesn't seem to sit correctly on the shoulder - strangely enough I have had to move the popper on each of my jackets; however this might be remedied by starching and ironing the jacket.

I sincerely apologise for sounding excessively picky but these are the qualities and details we are looking for at this level, we like the pictures to be as good as possible, because we believe this encourages to 'up your game' at troops and show your uniform in the best light.

Daine Jir has Tie Fighter Pilot Gauntlet style gloves, the sideshow figure of Praji has the same gloves. If you want a more definitive answer, I'd dig around, try and find behind the scenes / continuity photos / continuity notes. As they say, the truth (information) is out there - it's just a matter of finding it, and if you do - please share it.

  10. Radavik,

Am I right in saying you're asking for an accurate guide on rank bars from ANH? In my opinion all of these charts and guides were based after the fact, and fan interpretation, whilst there probably was a plan, most of it was probably done on aesthetics. For example we know Yularean as an ISB officer, that was a description derived much later, his uniform was designed to look like Gorring from the Luftwaffe.

I'm, still, in the process of consolidating a list of the main officers you see in the original trilogy. Whilst you can dig and find canon material, a lot of it was created almost 20 years later by roleplaying companies like West End Games and Decipher.

For me I'd say it's easier to copy the configuration of a uniform seen in the film.

  11. Ross,

On the whole the uniform looks to be a high standard, nice choice of suppliers.

As you pretty guessed there are a couple of dressing and clarification pictures I like to see before I grant you Executor clearance, most of this is a formality, as I have studied this at a Garrison level:

    • Can you please provide a close up of your cap, showing the notch in the code disk.
    • Can you show a picture of your jacket without the belt, to show the central seam.
    • Provide a close picture of the rank clearly illustrating the fact it is two separate bars.
    • Can you provide some pictures of the code cylinder to show the blue tip and accurate clip.
    • A photo of the gloves to show they match the style of those seen in the film.
    • And a face on picture with the full uniform, ideally with a neatly trimmed beard or clean shaven, if possible.

    Thanks

    Phil
