From the troops I've been to (as a wrangler, I do not have a completed costume). It's always been gear-up at the event. Regardless of uniform. Just easier that way I think, you are able to help others get dressed, have a quick meeting/photo shoot before appearing at the event where some people may not know of your arrival (general public) where as if people arrived in drips and drabs already dressed. Would seem less professionsal.
In my opinion anyhow.

I personally wish they went with some of the EU (as do most of us), but hey, reinventing it for a new new generation. Which seems to be the go with a lot of reboots for running series/movies/etc right now.
I'm hoping to see Star Wars on a big movie screen, I've only ever seen Episode 3 in Cinemas before. We should get Eps 4, 5 and 6 played before the release though.
Give me some Star Destroyers.

I'm working on a Motti varient to my Line Officer and aquired a pair of MuR belt boxes.
These come as vertical hanging and so needed to be altered to get them horizontally placed.
Removing the metal loop I drilled four holes to place cable ties to hang the box on the belt with....


I'm happy with the result, which can also will allow me to have them vertically too should I want...
