  1. Adding to the Cosplaysky questions: I’m about to pull the trigger on the deluxe black officer uniform to use for the Social Officer. When ordering the 501st customization, do I choose female, or does that change the cut so that it is not approveable? How likely are they to mess up and not give me straight pants if I request them in the notes section?

EDIT: One more question: Are you supposed to order the off the rack size that most closely fits your measurements? It requires you to select a size.

  2. I am in agreement with Katie and Vanya. "Approximate" is to take into account that there are people of varying sizes, and that they may need a larger or smaller item for it to have the correct look on them. For example, if the patch is even on all sides, it's even on all sides whether the patch is 3" or 12". The ratio between the height and width looks squished as the CRL is written currently. This does not give the look of the movie costumes.

You also need to take into account that there are GMLs that will take the measurements listed word-for-word, and will not approve a costume otherwise. I think changing the wording to a ratio, if possible, would be better in this instance.

  3. It's expensive partially because of the fabric they used for the hat/uniform. It is a super expensive and hard to find wool. They are supposed to be coming out with a less accurate version of the uniform later on that will be using a less expensive fabric.

  4. The seller in your first link is a 501st member, I believe. I bought one and just received it today, actually. Nice work. It was made via the method of attaching a piece of brushed metal that has been cut the shape and size of a buckle to a belt buckle.

  5. I know the scanning crewman has quite a few options to work with. I know generally you can mix and match, but if you are using the olive green hat with this costume, do you automatically have to have all the ESB options? Or can I still mix and match, like wearing gauntlet gloves for example.

  6. I'm looking at getting a pair of these boots for my staff officer until I can obtain leather boots:

I have heard some people in the IOC have been approved with these boots. Does anyone have the foot and calf measurements for them or know where to find them? I've been searching with google, but haven't come across anything. Any websites that I find that sell them do not have measurements listed. I usually wear a size 11.5-12 in men's and a 12 in women's shoes, but I have larger calves and want to make sure I'm not buying something that won't fit.

  7. Money is not plentiful right now, so I would need to do whatever is cheapest. Looks like cosplaysky might be my option right now, as I probably would have to experiment to get it right. I could always make a second uniform later down the road if I'm not completely happy with cosplaysky. I would like to hit level 3 accuracy. Is that even possible with cosplaysky?

  8. I am wanting to make a black officer costume, but am wondering if I can do it myself. I have very little sewing experience other than when I made my Tusken, but that was pretty easy and forgiving on mistakes. I also have a deadline of March, as I plan to wear this for a specific program.

So, based on everyone's experience, is this a costume I can make myself, or will I need to go other routes?
