With the release of TROS the First Order high council were shown in the movie and other media to not wear hats, I propose that the hat be made optional on the CRL. 

I was gonna reply tonight, but I'm happy let another advisor take the lead. Thanks Rebecca! I am located in NYC (Empire City Garrison) which would be  his home base, but I don't think where we are matters much in this instance. I'm happy to be available as well if desired. Best of Luck!

That would probably be the easiest solution.

The guy Mac and I are talking about is just an officer that wears a helmet. He would not fit into the other thread because the R1 IN in dress uniform has a completely different tunic and boots. They look more like the ones in ANH.

And for some levity;  If the word has two syllables you add "gate".  If it has one, you add "ghazi".  Poncho-gate.  Boot-ghazi

I saw that some time ago.  It's a GREAT impersonation, but for the movie, I don't think that's what is needed.
For the movie, we need someone that can channel some of Han's mannerisms, and bears a passing resemblance.
If it was an impersonator, I think it would veer into campy cheesy territory.

My personal Line officer (and AT-AT commander) uniform is from Magnoli and I think it's of outstanding quality. That said, I've heard nothing but great things about Clothears as well.

This is a first draft for the so called "Hall Walkers" which are walking around the corridors of the Death Star in ANH.
 
Since this is just another grey sunday in january and I have a few minutes time I wrote a draft for a CRL to start a discussion. Let's see how it goes  
 
Required Costume Components 
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. 

 
Imperial Hat, fieldgrey
For 501st approval:
•    Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable. 
o    Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
•    Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4" (101.6 mm) tall.
•    Front and rear "flaps" overlap on the sides and are about 4" (101.6 mm) high.
•    Front bill extends 3" down, decorated with 5, 6 or 7 concentric stitches.
•    Imperial Code Disk is positioned in the center of the front vertical flap. 
  
 For level two certification (if applicable):
•    Code Disk has a notch detail on the outermost disk.
  
 For level three certification (if applicable):
•    Code disk exactly matches screen-used prop.

 
Tunic, fieldgrey, 
For 501st approval:
•    Fabric should be a medium weight, fieldgrey colored suiting material. Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
•    Tunic has a right over left closure covering the closure itself.
•    The standing collar has square corners and is about 1.25" (31.8 mm) tall and remains open in the middle with a width of about 1/2".
•    The collar is made from brown fabric, matching the weave of the tunic.
•    Sleeves are long with brown cuffs which are about 3 - 4" / 75 - 100 mm wide.
•    Sleeves containing 2 seams, one along the bottom and one along the back.
•    This uniform shall not have code cylinder pockets.
  
 For level two certification (if applicable):
•    The back of the tunic has princess seams that run vertically and turn outward to intersect the arm-hole seam at the vertical center.
  
 For level three certification (if applicable):
•    There is topstitching visible 1/2" / 12mm from the edge of the breast closure and it must have a lining sewn in. 
 
 
Belt
For 501st approval:
•    The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material.
•    Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width, up to 3" (76.2 mm) is acceptable.
•    There are no loops on the belt.
•    A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle. 
o    The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the wearer.
•    The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material.
•    The buckle size is approximately 2 5/8" (66.7 mm) high and 4 1/8" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
•    Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center.
•    
o    Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.
    
For level two certification (if applicable):
•    Belt is made of leather.
•    Snap is worn to the left of the wearer.
•    Buckle is flat.
•    The belt has undyed edges
    
 
Trousers, fieldgrey
For 501st approval:
•    Fabric is a medium weight suiting material exactly matching the tunic and hat. 
o    Gabardine style weave is most accurate. 
•    Pockets are acceptable, although not visible with the tunic on.
•    Pants are neatly pressed or ironed.
•    Pants smartly rest on the top of the shoes without bunching or giving any sloppy appearance. 
•    there is a brown tuxedo piping on the outer seam on the sides running from top to bottom. The piping is approx. 1/4" / 6 mm wide.
    
 
Officer Shoes
For 501st approval:
•    Black, non-textured, leather or leather-like material.
•    Boots are free from any visible adornment, straps, buckles (etc).
•    Officer shoes are only worn in conjunction with straight legged trousers. 
o    Not with jodhpur style pants.
o    Optional: These officers may wear black Chelsea/ Jodhpur boots, similar to that of Stormtrooper boots.
    
For level two certification (if applicable):
•    Shoes are shined as would military dress shoes.
 

Well, this thread is indeed interesting. I love seeing this kind of constructive passion about characters and uniforms we all hold dear to our hearts.

As Jeff said, dosimeter style with blue top and brass clips are what most typically wear. However, all officers in Rogue One had dosimeter style code cylinders with blue tops and silver clips. But, as I said, most people have brass clips.

Slow, too much trying to turn it into a comedy and things that did not make sense ruined it for me

It is created from a costuming point of view, and not meant to explain every rank's importance or how they differ from movie to movie (that's what fan fiction is for). It is just a simple chart that shows what rank officially goes on what costume. Code cylinders are intentionally excluded, and can be referenced in the CRLs.
 
Note Rogue one/Solo ranks are only compatible with Rogue one uniform style
