  1. Did anyone notice Harrison Ford wearing running shoes with his Han Solo costume during some of his takes on the Starkiller Base set in The Force Awakens?:) You can see the shots on the bonus features disc in the documentary "Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey." I was reminded of the story of Peter Cushing wearing slippers during some of his takes when the camera does not have his boots in the shot.

  2. Right. She would have worn the staff officer uniform and the line officer uniform since she rose through the ranks to finally be in command of a Star Destroyer. Her uniform would be impeccable at any given time no matter which part of Ciena Ree's career one would portray since that would be in keeping with her character. "Lost Stars" author Claudia Gray has another Star Wars novel coming out in May called "Bloodline: New Republic" set six years before The Force Awakens.

I really would like to strongly recommend this book once again. "Lost Stars" by Claudia Gray is a fantastic novel and my favorite thus far since the Lucasfilm Story Group was formed. I can't recommend it enough and I would even recommend it to casual Star Wars fans. It's just a great page-turner. The narrative chronicles the lives of Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell, two nearly lifelong friends and eventual lovers from the Outer Rim world of Jelucan who love flying and join the imperial officer academy on Coruscant. Their relationship is strained when Thane does the unthinkable, from Ciena's point of view, and defects from the Imperial Navy after the destruction of Alderaan and joins the Rebel Alliance. The story unfolds during the Galactic Civil War time period of the original trilogy. Author Claudia Gray deftly charts their experiences through many key events we know so well such as the battle of Yavin, Hoth, Endor, and culminating with the post-ROTJ battle of Jakku. So many characters we love like Vader, Tarkin, Piett, Ackbar, and many others are, of course, all here as well. Do you want to know how that Star Destroyer crashed on Jakku as seen in Episode 7 The Force Awakens? It's in this book.

  4. Bobby,

she does wear a standard uniform but from what ive looked up about her after reading the book most of the images show her in a juno eclipse style outfit. now im pretty sure that its just someones face photoshopped on it but aleast its somthing.

Whatever you saw most certainly is photoshopped. Ciena Ree has only appeared in the novel Lost Stars which does not have illustrations so how she looks is entirely in our personal imaginations at this time. We know she has dark skin and brown hair. She ascends the ranks of the imperial navy throughout the course of her career which spans from before the battle of Yavin up to the battle of Jakku in this book. She would have worn several officer uniforms. She is Captain of the Star Destroyer "Inflictor" by the end of the book which crashes on Jakku and is the one we see half-buried in The Force Awakens. What we know about her character is that she is very by the book and very loyal. She definitely embodies our slogan "Duty Honor Empire."

  5. Hello fellow officers! Ben Salisbury and myself marched in the Bakersfield Christmas Parade on Thursday Dec. 3. My squad, The San Joaquin Squad of the Southern California Garrison, were joined by members of the L.A. Squad and the South Valley Squad of the Central California Garrison. Members of the Rebel Legion and R2 Builders also joined us. Here is a short 1 min. 30 sec. YouTube clip from the live television broadcast of the troop.

  6. I can confirm that Tiggie makes the best rank bars and belts, I got my code cylinders from ID6187, belt boxes from Imperialist, and my hat from Sewing Jenny (bear in mind if you go with Sewing Jenny, she has a pretty big back order and that will take time).

I've yet to get a tunic and Jodhpurs, still looking into that.

I agree with Dark Savage. You can get an awesome rank bar from Tigg-Wolf and belt (if you decide you can go with a leather belt). They might even be able to make one with imitation leather for you. It wouldn't hurt to ask. I have a Sewing Jenny hat and I hired her to make my tunic and jodhpurs as well. I highly recommend her if you are willing to go with black (staff officer) instead. I noticed that the code disk is upside down on the photo of the Anovos line officer hat. Did anyone else notice that? Hopefully they will fix that. Their hats look good though.

  7. Hey guys thank you for posting all of your feedback about IB. I bought Hessen Antiques riding boots. I was hopeful they would stretch a bit more but I don't think they will. They are too narrow and I get a blister if I troop in them for a couple of hours. I need a wider boot. I think I will try these!

  8. "The Imperial Handbook: A Commander's Guide" by Daniel Wallace is getting a non-deluxe release on August 11. I'm looking forward to reading this. Even though it's part of Legends, hopefully most of it is consistent with canon. It sounds like it is from what I see you guys posting here and worth getting, especially if it's only $14 on Amazon.

  9. I am poking around here to see what it takes to be a line officer. I have been eyeballing the Magnoli suit and I am looking to see what else I will need to complete the ensemble. This wont happen until my other costumes are completed but I am trying to have a plan for down the road.

I have some of Todds boots for Han Solo. Are they compatible with the officer uniform?

    Cheers!

If you decide to get a line officer uniform, ask for extra material and send the material to Sewing Jenny and have her make you the cap. That's just my recommendation from personal experience. She makes awesome hats. I have a staff officer tunic, jodhpurs, and hat from her and I couldn't be happier with them.

  10. My belt boxes stay on the belt which slides down inside one of my boots... I have a hat box, for cap, gloves, rank and code cylinders...

That's a good idea too! Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm also going to check the local equestrian shop where I bought my boot cleaner and polish to see if they sell bags that I can put my boots in and then put them in my suitcase so I don't have to carry them separately when going to troops.

  11. I use old socks to protect my accessories.  I put an old sock over my belt buckle and the belt boxes and wrap my dosimeters and rank badge in an old wash cloth.

That's a great idea! Yeah I wrapped my rank bar and dosimeters separately in bubble wrap too on the next troop. My belt from Tigg Wolf came with a nice cloth cover that fits perfectly over the buckle so that's protected nicely.

  12. How do you guys pack your belt boxes and dosimeters when going to a troop? I made the mistake of just tossing them in a suitcase for my first troop last month and the belt boxes banged against each other and scratched each other a bit. It's not noticeable unless one looks closely so I don't need to replace them. After that I wrapped them separately in bubble package protector wrapping and that works but it's ugly and has to be replaced after a few times.

  13. So I have a couple questions on the two Han Solo Rubies I picked up.

One of them will be used as is, as a DL-44 for my wife's Juno Eclipse costume. So does that just need to be painted up to be approved for her costume? No modification?

The other one I want to convert into a Merr-sonn power 5 for my staff officer costume. I know it will need some heavy modifcation, but does anyone know where I can find a good walkthrough or something on how to mod it? I know I have seen them on the forums here before but for some reason I am unable to find them again.

Last is paint for them. Will regular model paint hold up ok? Or is better to use like automotive paint or something?

Yes, "gucabe" (Gustavo Canales SL-7784) builds these blasters. He will sell you the greeblies, or answer any questions you have, or may even build one for you. I think he is taking commissions right now too. I got mine from him.

  14. Finally got around to purchasing a copy of Tarkin, the second novel to come out under canon. I haven't finished it, yet, but I am quite enjoying the read, so far. Especially due to the inclusion of costuming/uniform details within the narration.

Anyone else pleased with their copy?

Yes! My favorite part is the creation of the line officer uniform. That part should warm the hearts of everyone in the IOC. :)
