  1. My point was that Rebels doesn't have princess seams, so if someone is doing a Rebels character, they shouldn't have princess seams. But if they're not a Rebels character, they need them, unless there's a source showing otherwise.

Someone earlier posted that a seamstress had told them it was harder to do straight seams, and that perhaps, because of real world needs, we should allow people doing Rebels characters to use princess seam tunics. I'm saying that's not correct, it's totally possible to do straight seams, and rather easier if one is having it made custom (sourcing one made elsewhere is going to be harder though).

Just to clarify, do you mean it's harder to do rear princess seams? Or rear princess seams without a rear centre seam also? Just so I understand properly. :D

I think it's harder to do princess seams in general. The curve, and making them symmetrical, is much tougher than a single, straight back seam.

  3. On the straight seam and how difficult it was to sew, I'm going to challenge that rather specifically.

I'm an historical reenactor, and I have sewn a ton of my own stuff. My primary impression is the American War for Independence, and my coats all have center back seams. All of them. Even a lot of my WW2 kit, which admittedly I didn't sew myself but is probably closer to the Star Wars stuff, has center back seams. I'd argue, as a tailor, it'd be way harder to do princess seams.

Basically all of that is to say that, as far as I can tell, there should be no "real world" exception for folks who want to do a Rebels character.

*Boston greater metro would probably be fine. I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do, but it always helps to have an experienced set of eyes!

    Nevermind, I'm good.

  5. Was very hopeful these would be as out-of-the-box as possible, but it sounds like it'll take more than simple tailoring. Still probably better than Cosplay Sky, since the pants there looks absolutely terrible.

Ugh, what I wouldn't give for a pre-printed pattern and a verified souce of color-correct fabric.

  6. I reenact WWII, one of my impressions is a Soviet officer. In looking at some of the pics and conundrums about pants and boots, I looked over my kit and had some thoughts.

First, these are obviously the wrong color, but as I already own a pair, I could make a pattern from them if they'd be close: http://www.hikishop.com/ww2-soviet-union-russia-infantry-officer-blue-gabardine-breeches-p-1010.html

I can alter whatever needs to be altered (pray I don't alter it any further?), too, but I know, at least, the flares are in the right spot.

Second, I also have their boots: http://www.hikishop.com/wwii-soviet-red-army-leather-soldier-boots-reproduction-p-10.html

I can't tell if they'd work or not, boots are obviously a difficult subject (guessing based on the posts), but since I also already own these, if I don't -have- to buy another pair of boots, I'm pretty sure my wife would be happy.

They do sell German boots too, if that's a good resource: http://www.hikishop.com/wwii-german-officer-leather-boots-p-888.html
