It is hard to see in a screencap but you will see it in the moviescene: there are princess-seams indeed:

The elevator-guy's tunic also Shows the seam continues down from the belt-line.

Please check this in the movie itself. I did so using the BlueRay and trying to take a picture in the best possible moment.

Hi Adam. Tarkins tunic is always greengrey/fieldgrey/feldgrau like the ones of all the line-offciers.

Since you asked about a rebels Tarkin in another topic, I guess you want to know the color from rebels. As you can see in this image, Tarkin has the more greenish greengrey/fieldgrey colored uniform while Pryce uniform-color is grey.

Paggeldiwwer got a reaction from Deuce017 in General Pattern for an officers' tunic
    Hello fellow officers.

more than two years ago, when I became a member here, I noticed (as many before and after me) that it is hard to find a pattern here for the tunic.

I have sewed a few of those tunics since then (as an amateur - it's just a hobby ) and I just made a small photo-documentation of my recent progress.

I photographed the single pieces from which the tunic will be constructed and drawed in the measurements of them. I hope this will help some of you to create an own pattern for your tunic. And even if you haven never seriously sewed before (like me more than two years ago) - just do it, give it a try. You'll like it - believe me It is such a great feeling seeing the progress of your own project. And you do not need to work it out by hook or by crook - take yourselves the time you need. This includes re-opening of some seams sometimes. But you'll to this for the better.

The pattern is designed for my father, so it is customized. That means the single parts are made to meet his measurement - not yours. You will need to alter them to make the tunic fit your own body.

My fathers measurements are: 176 cm tall, weight 76kg, chest is 108cm waist is 110cm, back from neck to hip: 42cm, arm length: 62 cm, neck-circumference: 42cm.

Please alway keep in mind, that we need about 10-15mm of seam-allowance at each and every edge of the fabric. Before you sew all of that together, it appears a lot larger of course

    The collar:

    The chest-pieces:

    Right Side:

    Left Side:

    Double-breast:

    The arm-pieces:

    The back-pieces:

Construction (where do these parts all have to be placed?):

    Right front:

    Left front and double-breast:

    Back:

(please mind that the center-seam is just here for the Admiral Versio-Uniform. For a regular officer there is no center-seam at all!!!)

    Arms:

    How to start:

Draw on the pattern-parts and cut them out of the fabric:

Draw them on the facing again an cut those parts too:

Iron the facing onto the inner side of the fabric:

Paggeldiwwer reacted to buckrogersbarker in A Deep Aversion to Standing Armies
A Deep aversion to standing armies or why are rank bars different from before Empire Strikes Back and after.

Before the Clone Wars, the Old Republic enjoyed almost 1000 years of relative peace.  The Republic while vast and expansive, was NOT ubiquitous and even well-traveled parts of the galaxy did not accept its currency.  It was only after the Clone Wars that the republic increased more than 25% of its size and territory by acquiring the Outer Rim Territories, Hutt space and what would become the Corporate Sector.  All of these were spoils of war controlled by the Trade Federation, the Techno Union, the Banking Clan and the other conglomerates that made up the Confederacy.

Before the Clone Wars, most military and police protection was performed by local system militias.  The ground and space force of Naboo is an excellent example of this with forces to defend their cities from pirates, but not enough to take on a well-organized military.  The Droid armies of the Trade Federation could be quickly built and this imbalance did much to push the military creation act that kicked of the Clone Wars.

Before the military creation act, the closest thing that the Republic had to a military was the Judicials.  These soldiers represented the Republic senate wherever they went.  Clad in the same blue uniforms that would later be adopted by the Imperial officer corp, much of their roots and traditions can be found in this elite force.  Tarkin, Yularen, and Screed were all Judicials.  Orsen Krennic used Judicial Rangers when he rescued Galen Erso.

The end of the Clone Wars brought the nascent officer corp into its own replacing the Jedi as leaders of the Clone forces.  The Star Destroyers commanded by these officers were of the same shape as the Jedi fighters of the time, drawing comparisons that the new officer corp was the inheritor of the Jedi legacy.  Still, the same trepidation that had made the Military Creation Act difficult to pass at the start of the war prevented the unification of the entire military under direct Coruscant control.

Nominally, the emperor controlled the Galactic forces left over from the Clone Wars directly from Coruscant.  You can recognize these members as wearing double rank bars and often times being referred to as “fleet officers”.  The officers that wore single rank bars reported to the local sector moff and were under the oversight of the sector’s senator.  With 75% of the empire’s sectors being monitored by imperial senators, it is no wonder why Tarkin and Darth Vader were so concerned about word of the Death Star getting out.

The officers that oversaw the construction of the Death Star were sector controlled, not controlled by Coruscant directly.  But as the sector moffs (and Grand Moff) of the out Rim Territories worked directly for the Emperor and none reported to a local senator since most of these territories were occupied worlds, they were able to operate with impunity and secrecy.  Direct connections to Coruscant control happened only through top admiralty: for example Krennic who was a fleet admiral.  The rest worked in silos, many of which never knew for what the final product was to be.  This was the time that the bulk of the Imperial Military was far from the core worlds and hidden in the shadows of the outer rim.

New moffs and admirals were being minted in this time.  Admiral Versio of the ISB is hailed not just for his activities as an intelligence leader, but as the person who brought his home world into the empire.  He was rewarded with a place not in sector politics, but a position in the expanding galactic fleet.  And his world had its military standardized to the Imperial model.

The difference between sector fleets and the galactic fleet has a real world comparison to the armies of the United States.  The National guards are commanded by the governors of their respective states, but do have a place in the hierarchy of the US Army in times of emergency.  They are trained by many of the same schools that their regular army colleagues are trained.  They wear the same uniforms for the most part with minor differences to distinguish them.  Most officer uniforms had specific sector insignia for the collars and hats they wore.

The elimination of the Imperial Senate removed the senators that provided oversight for the sector militaries.  The regional governors took direct control of their territories and their militaries reporting directly to the Emperor much like the regional governors of Rome took to reporting to their emperors.  The illusion of separation was over and the single bar rank system disappeared as did sector insignia.  Everyone wore double rank bars from then on out until the end of the empire five years later.  The Emperor had direct control of his empire then.

    Evening everyone!

As the build thread for this particular costume here on the IOC is wrapping up, I think it's time we resurrect the CRL discussion. I've been Kris' armourer over on his UKG WIP thread and have done a ridiculous level of research into the costume to make sure I could give informed and adequate advice and assistance. That in  mind, I'd like to make the following proposal on the CRL's text.

This text takes into account several things:
    - Kris' original CRL text proposed in the beginning of this thread.
    - A large amount of research undertaken by myself, of which I am happy to provide details and references of should any part of the text need proving, elaborating upon, or rewording. I've made several suggestions towards reasonable (imo) Level 2/3 standards but accept that things are moved around by LMO's as part of their formatting and overseeing of the CRL process.
    - The fact that I strongly and firmly believe that the Battlefront 2 First Order uniform should be a sole, singular CRL.

This would make the costume available to those who wish to make a generic, to those who wish to portray male or female BF2 FO officers, and to those specifically wanting to portray Hask. It is additionally worth noting that Battlefront 2 (the game) could at any point start to offer players the ability to customise their multiplayer "generic" FO officer further. A "generic" male body type may be made available. It's possible that they fully remodel another male body however my money is on them using Hask's, as it already exists. This would mean that both "male" and "female" versions of the uniform would exist. Yes the female model used as the generic multiplayer at present has differences to Hask, however there are two differences, and they are extremely minor. One of them is a fitting issue, regarding the location of the princess seams on the front of the tunic (you see the same differences between male and female First Order officers in TLJ). It's already come up in this thread previously, that Hask himself could easily be an appearance configuration for this CRL, which would then immediately open the costume up to all men, women, -and- those who particularly want to portray Hask.

Being as this has been handed over several times in this thread as "an LMO decision" I'd like to invite our LMO Liason to weigh in! @Hux

Without further ado, the text (I'm sorry it's mostly lumped to the left, I can't figure out how to copy it in and remove that without losing all my formatting!):

I’ve been playing Battlefront 2 every day since it came out.  This past month they are rolling out updates and new skins for even the regular troopers. Size aside for gender, I can see the first order officer being a generic character for men and women with face characters being level 3 just like line and staff officers for the empire.

That would be in line with what we already do

I'm pretty sure @Paggeldiwwer summed it up pretty well on an earlier post in the thread. If we do a CRL for every named character in a uniform, it starts getting out of control. I think unless we get some extreme circumstances it'll be how all iterations of a new uniform should probably go. Uniforms are called "Uniform" for a reason.

Paggeldiwwer got a reaction from Kqueen in Why an IOC costume?
When i joined the Legion in january 2015 I did so with my Stormtrooper, just a common ANH Stunt. At my very first troop a fellow asked me why I was doing a Stromtrooper. My answer was, that I like the armor and the style and feel good while wearing this. He smiled at me and said: "That was not what I meant! I see you and I think you should do Grand Moff Tarkin!" My first thought was, this was a silly idea. The more I pondered about that, the more interesed I became in the character. I ordered a simple CosplaySky-Uniform, found some nice leather-riding-boots, ordered the dosimeters and the disc for the belt-buckle, build my belt myself, tested the makeup and the haircolor, did some pictures and got Tarkin approved to be my second costume in the Legion.

But I did not like the CosplaySky-Uniform very much. So I started to sew a new uniform by myself. It took me four weeks and I was in constand contact with @bjsavage7 in those days. And after all the sewing there it was: my first selfmade uniform. Even though I used this uniform for more than a year then, I got in contact with @furiosa in early 2016 and we started the research for the real cavlary twill in the accurate color. The rest is history: Antje made my new uniform out of the wonderful fabric and that improved my Tarkin the most.

Besides Grand Moff Tarkin I have a regular Line Officer, an Admiral Tarkin TCW and a Scanningcrew.

Our dear Elevator-friend does not seem to be an Admiral because of the missing red line in the rank-insignia. Those insignia do Point him to be a General. But his uniform does not match. His uniform Looks pretty much the same as the Admiral from TFA. And now we have some pants-reference at least for TLJ:

His double breast still has this crappy-looking, ill-fitting, not-matching line there on the right ...

Somehow I come to the conclusion, they just re-used some of the background-uniforms from TFA for some officers running around the Supremacy to look busy. What do you think?

Paggeldiwwer reacted to buckrogersbarker in The History of Moffs
Moff is military and political title for a sector leader. It originates from the days of the Old Republic.  As the Republic would expand outward and incorporate new systems they woulc occasionally encounter warlords or kings that would control entire sectors.  These leaders were given the title of Moff to help them integrate into the Republic.  Eventually as time passed the leaders would die and the sectors would elect representatives to the galactic senate.  As the Old Republic settled into its established borders, the title fell out of use.

Flash forward to the last year of the Clone War with the conflict appearing to have no end in sight.  Chancelor Palpatine started to appoint Moffs to work in parallel with their respective sector senators.  The Moff''s would oversee resources such as planets for the war effort, not just direct fleets and armies.  In areas where territory was conquered a moff was used rather than the previous senator that had proven traitorous to the Republic.  This was captured in the online Starwars.com Holonet news which gave a week by week account of the Clone Wars leading up to the release of Revenge of the Sith.

The first time the rank for a Moff is seen is in Revenge of the Sith on Governor Tarkin.  In the Tarkin novel, there are 20 moffs established at the dawn of the Empire.  Tarkin convinces the Emperor to create a special oversector leader for a combination of other sectors.  This was done making him Grand Moff Tarkin.

Grand Moff Tarkin is the leader of the Outer Rim Territories made up mostly of conquered territory from the Clone Wars and Hutt territory acquired during the war.  Here far from prying eyes of the Core Worlds, work is undertaken on the imperial war machine including the Death Star.

The rank of moff becomes the defacto sector leader after Palpatine abolishes the senate.  And the number of moffs by then equal or exceed the number of senators previously in the legislative body.

Replacing the bureaucracy are other ranks in the imperial structure.  The rank depends on the importance of the world.   In many cases, a world has a simple governor.  Sometimes the moff picks a favorite world to rule from and adopts the title of "governor" to go with Moff.   Other times military officers are used to govern worlds.

Captain Sturn is the governor of the occupied world of Kashyyyk.  Styling himself as a big game hunter, Sturn wore a sash made of wookiee fur.

Baron Tarko had the rank of Moff, but also the title of nobility where he governed on the world of Cato Nemodia, homeworld of the former Trade Federation.  He adopted the local fashion aesthetic into his uniform dress.

Governor Pryce had no record of military service before becoming appointed the leader of the world Lothal.  Her uniform was strictly that of imperial officer.

Captain Supervisor Grammel was the officer in charge of an imperial mining operation of Circarpous V.  Portly and more of a sadist in charge of the miners.

    His rule was not long.

Lon Isoto of Brental IV, who had the decency to at least wear his rank...

    and not much else.

Even Queen Amidala's Captain Panaka became the moff for the Naboo sector serving his old friend the former Senator Palpatine.

I think first port of call is seeing if we get any clarity on the rank? If they're both Admiral then yeah we can just allow both? No need for any separate configurations, since we don't see anything different in TFA (since we barely see any of them at all).

    Suggestion:

Move forward with a black wrap-over uniform with the pointed pants. First Order Admiral. Allow both of the rank bars. If we find out later that the TLJ version with no red on his rank bars is a different rank, we just amend the rank bar information and title of the CRL (if possible?) so that it's like the Lieutenant/Captain and Colonel/Major where the only difference is a rank bar.

Only issue there is we already have a generic FO General CRL.
If the generic General isn't Hux's uniform, then the entire generic FO General as we know it, needs completely reworking?

Unsure how making it as clear as possible, ensuring you're capturing the layman term and the technical, is not making it accessible for as many people as possible? Simple isn't always the best way forward.
BUT! I'm not an LMO and was merely voicing my thoughts.

I don't want to get off topic, but as a GML I'll always vote for a detailed description as I'm the one who has to proof the finished costume and I'm the one who has to argue on a factual basis whether or not the discussed pocket is approvable or not. If I only have a vague description that's unnecessay difficult. Also a lot of applicants read through CRL to check if their costumes fit the requirements. I know that the applicants shouldn't do that and come here for advise, but according to my experience in three years being an GML that happens in less then 5% of all applications and we have hundreds a year. So not only the GMLs, but also all applicants benefit from detailed descriptions.

I absolutly agree with @xAlpha that adding good pictures of details to the CRL will be a real help on that front, but as long as this feature is in the development process I'd like to add the details in the text. I'm neither a native speaker nor a tailor, but with a little help from google I was able to solve all obscurities within two minutes until now.

Taking up the original thread again: I'd like to see @GDMorti proposed wording included in the CRL draft.

"code cylinder pocket has a faintly visible seam just below the opening (cylinder pockets are one-sided piped pockets)"

In my opinion, as someone who doesn't understand the technical terms, I would rather learn them so I could forward them to a professional who will be making the costume. Tailor or Seamstress or not, if you're gonna make the costume yourself or have a professional do it you gotta know the correct terms. Adding pictures to the details on the CRLs would help alot with understanding the technical terms.

A sort of "details" gallery or links to specific areas of the costumes that have a very specific required look would be amazing, and super helpful!

And returning to the terminology etc for CRL's @Exaldear you say that the inclusion of techniques would cause you to switch off, however my proposal is that the laymans term is -always- included first as a visual descriptor of what you need to be aiming to replicate. Then, if a technical term exists, it would be included in brackets as an expansion on that information. It wouldn't be more than a couple of extra words. A layman or someone who has no interest in searching the term or learning what the technical term means doesn't have to do any extra work, yet the information is there for those who want that little bit more?

The correct name of the pocket is not "recessed side-pocket" but "one-sided piped pocket". I will edit this
when I get back to a Computer.

    Same feeling here ^^
Things sometimes turn out to be bigger when you dig into them.

Let's hope there are no more details   except until SOLO comes out of course

Wow thats' a lot of work for something I thought is only a small adjustement to an existing CRL. Sometimes I thinkl the costume department just want to see the world burn. I'm frightened to look an any referernce picture to see an other detail that we missed until now. ^^
