  1. I decided I was proud enough of this foolishness/accomplishment to post this here.

Inspired by biscuits 5 troops in 5 days, and fueled by the question 'can I survive this?'. I undertook to troop 3 troops in the space of 30 short hours.

Now normally this wouldn't really be a noteworthy/difficult task - but the middle troop was full participation in a 'Relay For Life' event (I was there for 16 of the 21 hours it ran)

    Organisations supported:

    1. The Starlight Foundation,

    2. Cancer Council,

    3. Bardon Community Kindergarten.

The line "that was fun, let's never do that again!" Never fit so well.

    (I'd probably do it again :D )

Full(ish) report on my Hall of commemoration thread, my humble bragging only goes so far - I wont post a link, I have to draw the line somewhere :P

  2. It's so close I can almost taste it.

Vlatislav is a very prompt responder, he got back to me within 24hrs, he can make the boots...

    HE CAN MAKE THE BOOTS!!!

We're talking just like the CRL Jack boot. top strap, orthotic insole room, wood pegged, heel & toe iron having Knobelbechers - big clompy romper stompers!!!

Now, they're a little pricier than his standard m39's but theyre about the same as decent riding boots, so I can live with that price for boots I'll wear forever!

While I'm excited, I'm not going to get overexcited - I've learned from my experience with turdbert, err I mean trabert.

I know this post is only really for me. But if any other Imperial squatches want accurate boots - they may exist (provided dropping 600 USD appeals to you).

I'll keep you posted for no reason other than it will stop me telling random people in the street!

  3. Okay, so this will be a series of very specific questions, I'll try to stay on topic.

In making the decision to start searching for 100% custom-made Knobelbechers, I have realised that there are choices that must be made regarding what the boots will look like.

The CRL's show two different pairs of boots as examples of Jack boots.

    These are most prominent:

    Imperial_Crew_Boots_zpskyvrdh6p.jpg

They have a rounded toe with a thick welted sole, and a mid-shin shaft height.

    These are also shown:

    Generic-black-boots_zpsomyh0jkv.jpeg

They also have a round toe with a welted sole, and better show that the vamp is sewn inside the shaft. But the shaft height is taller with a curved profile, leading me to believe these are closer to a 'marschstiefel' than a Knobelbecher - but clearly not tall enough for officers boots.

Now I have found a maker of reproduction military boots in the Czech republic (I have not made contact yet), however his jackboots and marschstiefel jackboots not only lack a top strap, but the toes have a rough out appearance.

Here come the questions (keeping L3 as the standard).

    1. Is a smooth out texture the more accurate?

    2. Some boots are made with a 'sharknose' toe, is the round shape more accurate for our purposes?

    3. Should heel irons (toe irons and hobnails as well) be present for accuracy?

    4. Would a matte or gloss leather finish be preferred?

    5. Is it known if the film boots were of a particular pattern (for example M39)

I realise that the rough-out pointed toe boots without a top strap would still be approvable (possibly to L2), but with the boots being a ground up custom commission, I have the opportunity to have them made to 100% screen accuracy.

And if I haven't thought of something that would affect my goals here, please chime in.

With how much blood, sweat and tears I have in getting to this point, I want to get these perfect!

  4. Agreed. I've spent about that on each of my costumes from CS to fine tune the fit and finish.

An absolutely perfect, spot-on to measurements CS tunic will still need to have the collar's hooks moved and/or velcroed) and the zipper completely replaced at some point (they eventually misalign and pop open in the middle).

It's just the nature of the beast.

  5. Custom-made is pretty much our only option (15/16 myself).

Officer boots are pure custom that big.

At least that's my experience so far, if you find something less than 550us (polocrosse boots) please let me know because that's the lowest I've found (in Australia). Truly accurate (equestrian)is looking like 850us (USA, or Australia), Sigh...

IB used to list 15, but that's disappeared from their site.

Being in the USA, you've got better access to the custom bootmaking heritage either side of your southern border with Mexico. Could be worth a Google.

Hope that helps, feel free to pm me if you want the full rambling infodump I edited down for here, or if you find something I haven't - I've been at this since may last year!

  6. Pffft, guess what, we're back to no!

Everything seemed good, they had said they make them and they take 6 weeks to make. Then I pressed for a statement that we were both talking about black size 50 Knobelbechers and asked what the shaft height on the 50's was specifically. Their next message ended the conversation with (paraphrase) "we don't have size 50, black in stock right now, here's the name of another shoemaker, they're good too, best regards"

Were they going to take 6 weeks to mail stock boots? Have they run out of black leather? Did I offend them by saying their boots were 99.5% of what I've been looking for? (The .5% being white stitching on the lug sole).

I feel rejected, was I too much work for €350? I almost want to email them again about dyeing the marone ones black just to annoy them. I don't know, I suppose German can seem abrupt in translation, I'm disappointed, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I guess I'll email reck und sohn schuhe (their website is so under construction its just an address)

Thanks for letting me vent, sigh...

  7. It'd be interesting, but I seriously doubt it would be based on the book.

From what I remember, imperial commando was based around characters reactions to order 66 and their personal identity (imperial/mando'ade/Jedi). Not to mention darmans emotional damage from watching his wife die/not knowing he has a son.

Not sure you could fit a 1st person shooter in there?

Plus there's the fact that Karen traviss walked away from the series/star wars in general to work with halo (because of the hatchet job the clone wars did to her work on EU mando culture). And is now well and truly sick and tired of being asked about the skirata clan's well-being!!!

  8. When I'm in my reserve TIE wrangling for full TIE pilots, I tell people I file the requisition forms in triplicate for fuel and blaster gas at our office on the death star. Hey someone's got to do the paperwork, it doesn't file itself! ;)

  9. For my hat I improvised, I filled a plastic shopping bag with many more and shaped it to support the brim, and put it into another bag.

It gets transported in a small hardcase with a combination lock (my dl-44 also goes in it in a zippered laptop sleeve that came with the bag)

My soft uniforms travel in a 4 suit suitbag that has various pockets for boxes, belt, compad, gloves, holster etc.

Carrying my boots loose is a pain, but I just got a new sports gear bag through a garisson bulk order, as soon as I put a PVC frame in it, it'll be easier to put everything into it.
