5 OF 5- MAY 2 STEP UP! YOUTH CHALLENGE RED CARPET AWARDS SHOW- 2 OF 5

This is a cause I am most fervent about as an educator, to motivate youth leaders into becoming more. This is the same group of kids that were at the opening Step Up! troop in February, receiving their awards for their projects this year, doing stage acts, and having a party!

5 OF 5- APRIL 30, "MAY THE FOREST BE WITH YOU" SAC ZOO- 1 OF 5

This was an awesome kick off and where I got the idea. My commemoration tour started in the northernmost troop I could get to, Sacramento Zoo, for their Star Wars Day. "There are 43 troopers, mando, and rebels going! We must represent South Valley Squad!" so Izzy, Alptraum, and myself loaded up at 4:30 AM Saturday Morning, arriving at nine for the news crew and kids!

Thank you Sacramento Zoo, the Central California Garrison, Endor Base, and Terran Clan! We got this party started!

    FIVE TROOPS IN FIVE DAYS

Hello Officers, Crew, and Troopers! My name is Biscuit, ID-39999, of the Central California Garrison and the IOC Morale Officer. I want to share a journey with you, to raise my spirits and hopefully show the power of what we do. Two weeks after retiring, my Mom, Dawn Salisbury, was informed that she had irreversible colon cancer. After a year of suffering, she died on May 1st, 2011, five years ago. We also recently lost a comrade, John Salles, a police officer, Iraq war veteran, and sci-fi fanatic. I decided that I would try to honor them both with 5 troops in 5 straight days, centered around the 5th anniversary of my Mom's passing and John's funeral. I am about to attend troop 4 this morning, so I will update this afternoon. As a thank you to you all, every single troop i'm in an Officer uniform of some type. Please save comment after i have posted troop 5 OF 5. Thank you for joining me, my sci-fi fantasy family!

I did a semi-thorough examination of the officer uniform in the Orlando Launch Bay when I was down there last month.  They have a "standard line" uniform where you can touch it, and a "premier line" uniform in a glass case.  (I got pretty up close and personal with the one you could touch, hehe.) Both uniforms on display were men's line officers, but I am assuming they use the same pattern for the staff officer uniforms.

The cap's greeblie is still glued on upside down, with the notch pointing down.  I don't know if they have fixed that in their production versions. The cap's bill has the required minimum number of stitched lines on it.

The belt buckle is nice, and the belt itself is not bad.  I'd hoped to buy just a belt buckle for my collection so I have a spare, but they no longer had any in stock.  The belt is undyed on the edges and back, which is screen accurate.  The belt comes with several notches already punched in it for the buckle, more than I think are screen accurate, which is why I'd intended to buy just the buckle.

The jacket collar needs a modesty panel to even qualify for Level 1 approval.

The uniform will never be approvable for Level 2 or 3 as the jacket's waist seam does not go all the way around the jacket.  The center front panel of the jacket is cut in one piece and does not have a waist seam.  Otherwise, the seaming and construction looks good.  The princess seams are correct, the jacket is fully lined, the code cylinder pockets are deep, the jacket closes with snaps, and there is no visible topstitching on the jacket.  It's just the center front panel that's the show stopper.

The jodhpurs have adjustment lacing just below the knees.  This is to be expected with this style of pant, but you need to be aware of where it falls on your leg so it's covered by your riding boots.  Tall people may find that the lacing is too high on their leg and visible above the top of the boot.

I flipped through the catalog (OK, the three ring binder) they had at the Launch Bay just to see the pricing.  The people there told me that if I ordered something, it would be delivered within 8 weeks.  This is almost certainly a delivery guarantee only if you order in the Launch Bay.

Overall, the uniform does look nice, and the fabric does have a good weight to it.  Because of the price, and the fact that you wouldn't be able to get it approved past Level 1, and the fact that you will almost certainly still need to get it tailored, I would have to recommend saving a couple hundred bucks by going with CosplaySky if you don't have a seamstress that can custom make you a uniform.

The originals (or at least this particular jacket) didn't have a princess seam under the front flap.  It has a center front seam, horizontal seam just above the chest line (where the code cylinder pocket is), and a waist seam:

This would make it easier for the costume shop to stitch up a bunch of jackets for extras and move the snap closures to wherever they needed to be, without worrying about exposing a fitting seam.  Case in point: the unfortunate extra at left who's ended up in a jacket that's a little small for his belly:

However, adding that princess seam under the front flap makes it a lot easier to fit to the body, instead of trying to manipulate the pattern so all the chest fitting happens in the horizontal seam (where the code cylinder pocket is).  It's almost a requirement for the female officers in order to accommodate the bust, unless of course you're pretty flat-chested like me.

I get the feeling this collar will not be easy to replicate

Getting it to wrap around the neck and lay flat across the chest at the same time seems tricky.

Everybody's going nuts over making a Hux costume so I think I may start with Datoo first. Just need to go back and watch the movie again (for a fourth time!) and see if I can catch any more details, particularly on the back of the jacket.

The picture you've posted is from the Visual Dictionary.  That book has a full-length shot, and you can see he's wearing the standard jodhpurs from the classic officer costumes, although the shape coms to more of a point instead of being a rounded shape.  He's wearing the same knee-high zip up boots that Hux, Mitaka, and all the warrant officers wear.

My guess is the hat and coat will end up being optional items for the CRL for him, since he's seen without one or both of those plenty of times.  The lower-ranking officers will likely end up with hats as a requirement.  So far I've done rough sketches of Hux's costume, although I still can't clearly see how the back of the overcoat lays so I'll probably just have to take a best guess there.  Planning to go back and watch the movie again in a week or so, in order to confirm uniform details and take more notes before I start drafting a pattern and doing a mockup.

I'm particularly interested in the one officer with what looks like a wraparound collar on his jacket, although I don't know if I'll be able to accurately record any details on that one until the Blu-ray comes out.

Hello fellow officers! Ben Salisbury and myself marched in the Bakersfield Christmas Parade on Thursday Dec. 3. My squad, The San Joaquin Squad of the Southern California Garrison, were joined by members of the L.A. Squad and the South Valley Squad of the Central California Garrison. Members of the Rebel Legion and R2 Builders also joined us. Here is a short 1 min. 30 sec. YouTube clip from the live television broadcast of the troop.

As promised - here is the link to my FB album. There was no flash photography allowed by I cranked up the ISO to 6400 on my Canon 7d (hence the noise), but I got some pretty decent shots. I was surprised about how many details they got wrong like descriptions of blasters, the wrong gloves on the Senate Guards, the holster on the line officer, and don't get me started on Vader The color in there really wreaked havoc with my white balance, but you can correct that on your own - I'm too tired lol. Enjoy

I decided to throw on the IC & go out to greet the trick-or-treaters. Due to the October chill, I decided to add my IG leather jacket to it to keep warm. Those who know me will attest that I am normally very much against non-canon costume embellishments. I kind of liked this look, though! A few people thought I was a cop out there patrolling the neighborhood! haha

They can still pick and choose parts of the EU that they want to use, but I think the clone Emperor is a little far-fetched. I wouldn't rule out seeing Vader as a flashback or hallucination though
