I get what you're saying.  Part of the reason we've never developed a CRL for Republic Officers even though we see them a ton in the Clone Wars cartoon (and why we've been very slow with Rebels variants) is due to the difficulty in making an animated character look correct in real life.  Clone Trooper Detachment has a TON of costumes whose main source is the Clone Wars cartoon, but for them it is a little easier to match the look....for fabric based costumes it does seem to be quite a bit more difficult (at least to me).  Most of the Empire's officer corps began as Republic officers who remained loyal so they're fair game as far as the "bad guy" check goes.  Rebel Legion has only Admiral Yularan (although he would be eligible for us as well I believe).

Yes, our rank badge section that is linked from most of the CRLs is woefully underdeveloped.  There are a ton of rank charts out there (I have three different versions stored on my phone for reference).  The rank bar reference material here (thread started by BJ) is good but we should have some of that information added in connection to the CRL so people can see it as something they should think about instead of just the mechanics of how big the tiles/spacing is.

If we take the new canon seriously - and why shouldn´t we do this cause thats´s the reason they created the Lucasfilm Story Group - there´s a high chance that there are more ISB-Admirals than Garrick.
Thats´s my conclusion after i finished the new Leia novel where a greater number of Grand Admirals and Directors (Krennic) were mentioned.

A possible approach could be to 'generic' CRL for a ISB Admiral with a Lvl 2/3 auxiliary for Garrick Versio in person.

In this case I recommend the CosplaySky Star Wars Uniform Deluxe, a lot of our members have this one:

It is currentyl on sale, and I highly recommend to order a custom made uniform, it's worth the money.

code cyllinders have nothing to do with rank.  We used to think they had something to do with it, but Rogue One has changed that.  Think of them as keys or USB thumb drives.  When Jyn, K2SO and Cassian enter the Scariff facility, they pass by two officers just standing in the hallway.  The junior ranking officer has more code cyllinders than the higher ranking officer.  The higher ranking officer has belt boxes.  These have always been accessories and variable based on the need and preference of the officer.

Now this hasn't been confirmed, but I believe that the double stacked ranks are a combined service that answers directly to the emperor.  Imagine you will the regular army.  The single stacked ranks are at best a national guard that answers the local moff, like Tarkin, but Tarkin answers to the Emperor.  That was the most controversial thing about the military creation act of the clone wars.  No one trusted the republic to have a military of its own.  It mostly used local militaries for operations.  The Death Star was created in the Outer Rim and even the Emperor and Vader were worried about the Senate getting wiff of it, right up until the battle of Scariff.  After the battle of Yavin, the galaxy wide military control was enacted and the single rank bars went away as everything was under the control of the Emperor.

But this explains why you see the double rank badges mixed with single rank badges in Star Wars Rebels and Rogue One.  A fleet admiral is a rank, but it isn't a billet.  Ozzel, Piett, Krennic, Versio and Constantine all have the rank of Fleet Admiral, but only Piett, Ozzel, Versio and Constantine had fleets.  That is because they were assigned a billet with a fleet.  Krennic's billet was assigned to the head of advanced weapons research under the ISB/Imperial Intelligence.  This has a real world analogy with the guy who created the US Navy's nuclear program, Hyman Rickover.  He became a 4 star admiral, but he never had command of a vessel or fleet while a flag officer.  his billet was specific to the navy nuclear program.  I think we will get more of these real world analogies as we get more movies, games, cartoons and other media.

I believe that there are only 6 strata of ranks for both the double ranks and the single ranks, an O-1 through O-6.  Ranks higher than that are political in nature.

For navy: ensign, Lieutenant (jg), Lieutenant, Commander, Captain, Admiral
For army: 2nd lieutenant, 1st lieutenant, captain, major, colonel, general
The color mix of the tiles determine what you do.  blue being navy, red army, amber research.  With a mix of the colors because it is all a combined service.  The green uniforms are the imperial starfleet, white with black hats and trousers, the ISB, Imperial intelligence and compnor and the black being something akin to the SS taking over the entire service.

So we have solid evidence to proceed with a CRL or a modification. Honestly, I would list the combination of small belt boxes, code cylinders with silver clips, rank bar, and Helmet as an optional Rogue One configuration on the existing staff officer CRL. This should not require a new CRL as it is a R1 Officer variant, in my opinion.

True, but it seems strange to me to put a Navy Trooper helmet into "optional accessories" on the Officer CRL. Not out of the realm of possibility.

Definitely agree, though I would imagine the distinction of a specific belt box size would most likely fall under a Level 2 or 3 detail.

The picture was included to get a better picture of the kind of gauntlets used for Rogue One (no 3 stitch lines). The blaster would be, as always, optional, though, the SE-14 was a popular blaster on Scarif as we see Jyn (and later K2) with them on-screen.

That's why I suggested something like "IN - Imperial Navy Trooper: Security Officer" - no need to get bogged down with a rank bar discrepancy (which we all know there are plenty of).

    5)  They are now all glued and in order, ready to be affixed with velcro.

** after they dry I'll edit in the rest.  I will have to create labels for the rank listing on the black backdrop, and also add the thick poster board backing to make it more secure.

For the prize badges, I have a ton of random backings and squares.  I was thinking of making a few custom "NER Cadet" rank badges, they won't be a regular style we can make one up.  I was thinking a red, blue and yellow three button one like this:

    6)  Completed game board.  For not I used velcro simply because I want to do it for ECCC and didn't get the magnets yet.  I'll work something out for that down the road

    7)  Ready to play

    First test subject hahahaha

     Implementing the game.

    * First we have the board set up at the table, along with several signs I've made up.

    * We encourage donations for the 501st MAW Endowment fund.  I also printed out mail in forms with the information on it, but we'll have the normal collection can (and charity tracking forms) on hand.

    9)  Next you let the participant look at the IOC Rank Bar guide for one minute.  Again, this is all for fun so we tailor it accordingly.  If we have adults that are taking it seriously, we time them with a stop watch.  Kids, you can give them more or less time and also let them glance at it again if you want as the game progresses.  Basically it will all depend on how many give-a-way rank badges we have at the time.  If traffic is light and we have a ton of badges let the kids win.  If not, hold them to the rules and if they lose give them a pack of cards and activity book (which will be other consolation prizes).

    10)  After the minute, turn the guide over.  It will now show a menacing Darth Vader ordering the participant not to fail him lol.  Again, if it's adults and they are playing, time them.  Give them two minutes.  Give them a one minute warning.  If a Vader costumer is present taunt them with funny comments about failing him, or "that is incorrect, you call yourself an officer?".  Ideas are limitless, have fun and come up with silly lines and / or encouragement.  If officer costumers are there again, have fun with them.  Other troopers can blatantly look at their rank badge and stress their rank - "excuse me ADMIRAL.... do you know where the trash compactor is?".  Or multiple officers could address each other by rank "Hey there CAPTAIN... I loved you in A New Hope".  You get the idea.  Have fun helping or teasing the participants.

    11)  After the designated time is up, check the board against the guide.  For kids tell them how great they did, even if they missed a few.  For adults, let them know that the Emperor will be sorely disappointed in their effort, and offer them some rubber shoes for when he hits them with lightening.

If anyone actually wins, let them choose a freebee rank badge.  If traffic is light and we have lots of extras, make sure to just give children participants one of the "NER Cadet" badges regardless.

I plan to list named officers with the appropriate rank on the final version, as well as replace the description of the rank with an actual graphic.  Just thought it might help to have an easy to update breakdown.  Let me know if you'd like me to carry on with this project.

    [/END OF MODERATOR NOTE]

This the official guide to illustrate all canon officer ranks recognized by the IOC. It is compiled with reference from the original movies, and official EU sources. It is created from a costuming point of view, and not meant to explain every rank's importance or how they differ from movie to movie (that's what fan fiction is for). It is just a simple chart that shows what rank officially goes on what costume. Code cylinders are intentionally excluded, and can be referenced in the CRLs.

Note Rogue one/Solo ranks are only compatible with Rogue one uniform style

The game itself looks like it'll be a lot of fun. It said on the IGN article I read that it'll be like a Bioware game when outside a dungeon and like a Diablo game when inside the dungeon. That sounds like a blast, but we'll see how they manage to make it not... lacking when it's facing the restrictions of being  a mobile game.

As far as the plot goes... I don't like it. I hate stories like these. We're playing as a conglomoration of assassins, smugglers, and crime cartels who had to band together because the law started cracking down harder than it had in the past and they're profit margins got messed with. Whether or not the governance is wrong we're still playing as the Star Wars equivalent of the Columbian Drug Cartels. I for one don't like the idea that, somehow, a bunch of murderers, drug dealers, and other scum are now "heroes" because they oppose the Empire. That's NOT how it works -____-
