I don't think so, as far as I know there aren't any Rogue One type IOC type costumes that have an approved CRL.

No there are not yet - I believe Krennic is the closest to being done - don't think anyone's even built the armor for the Tech yet.

As far as the OP, I believe that was an older name that hasn't been refreshed into what they actually are called now.  One of the older guys will have to comment though.

Considering the leadership posts in the thread I linked above, that seems unlikely. ;)

There are plenty of on-screen examples that can used to make a case.  Nearly every one, in fact.

I can't honestly say I've heard of a GML who required a rule to the cap to meet the measurements in the CRL - if it looks right on your head I think for most that's all they care about.

Probably need to clean it up, may have to paint the top part - hard to tell with that picture.

Good news though, the clip is right :P

Boots are a touchy subject.  There is a reason why they don't do ID boots anymore - can't recall the reason off the top of my head but I too wish they would do them again.

Understood - I meant specifically Krennic's boots, as they're those oddball ones we've only found one maker for 450 and we're not sure if he's valid.

But if not then not - maybe I can find a custom maker around Texas.

This is actually good to know, and maybe can help clarify the CRL down the line - these boots are actually really good quality and are incredibly useful for those of us with larger calfs (calves?).

I'm stuck with the boots no matter what - RidersMall said that there was nothing they could do. So, I think my plan is to modify them by having a cobbler cut them down to flat top/English style and use the now separate Spanish flare to patch the hole where the stretch panel will be removed by said cobbler. I would much rather play by the letter of the (current) law, and not become "that guy" who bugs the GML; plus, if I go back now with what BJ said, it'll look like I tattled. And I REALLY don't want that. :)

That being said - thanks for all the advice and discussion. It really helped immensely.

Not Tattling.  If there's a disagreement on the CRL, the GML's actually supposed to go to the DL for clarification.  You did what you had to, nothing more.

IPB would be perfect to make good ones.  They did the same with TFA TK gloves and pretty quickly the original ones sent out with ANOVOS were replaced.  For sure if they are more than just Krennic they will produce them.  Good point!  I'll ping IPB today..

While you're chatting with them can you chat about his boots?  they kinda gave me the cold shoulder because they're "tall boots" and stuff - but I'd really rather keep my money with people we can trust rather than "random guy on the interwebs"

  7. Those are quite fine gloves !

They're not entirely accurate but close enough .
I really do have the feeling that those gloves are going to be suckers to find .
Like some stated before , they were most likely made for the movie , so there's little chance we find identical gloves in stores or online , the position of the snap on the glove is unusually high .

Maybe , just maybe Imperial Boots might release a new pair of gloves ... If the movie proves that all Officers wear the same gloves as Krennic , then they may consider making them if enough people show interest .

Maybe even if only Krennic has them- they made Kylo gloves

but agree with you on the L2/3 point

I've been looking at police gloves as have seen some close ish matches

Yeah - I ended up with these, because of my giant paws - they're not perfect, but the look good as long as I don't lift my hand above my head.

so moving onto the next problem.....

the gloves, this is from my WIP

"I went and saw my costume maker today and showed her the new image of Krennic with the new gloves and to find out if she could modify the ones that I have. She said it would be possible, however with the image is to dark at the bottom of the glove to get all the detailing right as she thinks there is another fixing, maybe velcro, at the bottom as well as the main snap, she will need some better images to make a match.

She did say that the gloves he is wearing are to small for his hands and that is why they look so tight and might be why the hole is so high up the hand, however yes she agreed that the snap is not at the bottom of the glove."

Has anyone got any better images of the underside of the gloves? I can't seem to find any. Or has anyone actually found a pair that match?

Not yet.  We thought they were just standard black leather gloves like...  ANH I believe - forgetting which one had unmarked backs, ANH or ROTJ - but then the Japanese poster came out (few pages back if you want to look) and we saw the snap.  I don't believe we will see them close enough until at least the VD, and maybe not until the Blu Ray comes out.  Someone up earlier thought they could identify them as a german officer glove (which would fit, half of his costume is german officer parts), but then the issue is finding them in proper condition - and that may be where we work with Imperial Boots or Wampa Wear (or both, whatever) to make them.  I'd say screen accurate gloves probably would be L2/L3, at least for a while until we can get makers making correct gloves.

A case in point is code cylinders/dosimeters.  There is a staff discussion to no longer allow chalk holders for them. At the time the CRLs were last written getting accurate code cylinders was hard or expensive or both.  Allowing modified chalk holders was a good solution until better items became more widely available.  Now is the time to make that move, but we need to ensure we are able to communicate this out effectively.  One needs a plan such as:

Philo is about to get BUSY :P

In all seriousness, I'm behind both of these ideas, but as you said, as long as there's easy-access vendors (and I appreciate whoever linked that one up there, but not all of us speak/read German, so, yeah. :P).

You essentially hit on my feelings - all I ask for is consistency.  Don't apply a double standard to the new hotness without requiring it for all.

Does anyone know if the Director Krennic costume is being approved yet?

Folks went nuts over Kylo, but I'm getting the feeling the guys in white aren't getting any love for Rogue One.

BJ may be reviewing it, but no, it's not approved yet.

Trust me, I'm as anxious (if not more so) than anyone to see it approved. :P

The only thing keeping me from buying them at this point is the sizing. I have no idea what size my hands are and don't even begin to know how to measure that.

    Here ya go:

    http://www.toughgloves.com/fit.html

So I bought 3 different pairs for Krennic (don't ask, I returned 2), and what I found was while I measured at a 9-10, the 10 fit in the Patrol gloves, but anything with a wrist required an 11 (and the Marksman actually needed a 12 for me).

My best suggestion is follow that guide, then size up if you're at or near the top number - and order from somewhere like Amazon first.  Try them on, if they fit, awesome, if not, follow the return policy, and order a size or two higher depending on how they fit.  Just don't try to force your hand if it doesn't want to go - they are leather, but you still can rip leather.

  15. Ok.

I have no idea about the politics part, I try to stay as far away from that as possible, so I'm going to sidestep that and address 2 things.  One, yes, I probably will contact that person, but I'm not talking about a CRL for just me - this isn't Black Krrsantan that I'm working on in my spare time planning how to do it, that no one in their right damn minds willingly wants to jump into an 8'6" black furred wookiee in the middle of the Texas summer - this is for a brand new, obviously highly desired IOC face character for many people.  "Go hunt down so and so and ask him where he got his bars" works for me - I doubt the poor man wants his inbox blown up on a regular basis.  I have no issues with revamping all the rank bar requirements, but before we do that we need someone publically making them for people who can't - and it isn't about the cost to me on this (or I wouldn't have dropped $400 just on a cloak) - but it will be to some people.  It's the reason why we require "knee high leather-like boots" at L1 for all officer costumes, and not leather boots, or more.

The other thing is we're sitting ere arguing over how accurate the rank bars should be for L1.  Which is fine - but what happens when the next guy jump in and says "you know, you shouldn't allow a plain black belt, it should be accurate - it's not much more money."  Or when the next guy jumps in and says "it doesn't take THAT much time to make sure this is accurate," etc.  We're not saying the CPS Krennic unifor is passable - far from it.  We are, however, trying to be as accurate as possible while trying to be somewhat reasonable.  It's a fine line to walk, and given that I was crazy enough to jump in and start this, instead of let someone else get around to it, I'm ok with taking the heat if people think I'm wrong - but I've been trying to strike a balance between reasonable and 100% accurate over the last 6 months.  Remember, my first draft had 100% accurate stitching as part of L1.  I was walked down off that cliff then, and I've come to realize it was the correct decision.

Its unique enough for me but ive said my opinion i shall leave it at that

Here's the thing - I actually agree with your opinion.  It raises my hackles that my rank bars aren't perfect, nor my boots, or that my cloak material is apparently a tiny bit lighter weight than the movie cloak, or that my gloves aren't 100% right.  These are all things I want to fix, not for L2/L3 acceptance, but because I am THAT invested in this character.

That being said, as I said somewhere else, demanding my perfectionists view for everyone isn't what the Legion is about.  At least not anymore.  I have no issues with L2 requiring Push buttons, and L3 requiring exact spacing (I know someone seems to have figured it out, but I'm sure when the VD comes out we'll have it exactly).  But I go back to the boots - it'd be like requiring ONLY English Riding Boots for Tarkin.

I do appreciate your opinion though - my heart tells me you're correct, but my head says no.

  17. 5 hours ago, Daetrin said:

Guys - just remember that L1 is basic acceptance and isn't meant to be perfect screen accuracy or prop replication.  Also, when BJ & I did the IOC CRLs, we were very careful to do a lot of standardization on common parts like rank bars, boots, etc. for numerous reasons.  So, let's focus on the main parts for now.   L1 should not be perfection - it should be a pretty good representation of the character at a reasonable cost/level of effort that is consistent with other L1 costumes in IOC.

    Essentially what I said above.

Whilst studying the uniforms I looked into this. From my research, specifically officers, I found ANH officers had belts with scuffed / undyed edges to their belts, no grooves. ESB officers had plain belts with black edges. It was only RotJ officers which had belts with grooves.

Well, and now Rogue One has grooved belts - so apparently they all went to wardrobe after the plans were transmitted to Tantive IV ;)

PS : There are actually makers of push-button rank bar in both Europe and the US , so the " nobody makes push button rank bars " excuse is invalid . Mine comes from a UK-based maker .

You misunderstand me.  There is no one on IOC or Legion boards that makes a completed rank bar with push buttons - at least not that I have seen.  And having priced them out, even if say I or you or Kris were to start making them, they wouldn't compare in price to the plexiglass.

For comparison - are we going to require screen accurate boots for level 1, given there is exactly ONE maker found ad they're $450 a pop?  That would immediately exclude probably 90% of the people working on this costume from submitting for quite some time.

I don't see it as a margin of inaccuracy - I see it as looking like the character to the average joe's eyes, and L2/L3 is looking like you walked off the screen to OUR eyes.  We already have fairly detailed requirements anyway - demanding absolute screen accuracy for even admission on this character, simply because...  what?  We want the elitist label back?

I respect your opinions, and trust me, I'm working to get accurate rank bars - but I currently have neither the tools nor the talent to make them.  I'm a computer tech, not a costume designer.  And I don't feel that Tigg's bars are that far off - not one single person looked at my costume this weekend and said "those rank bars are wrong."

Do I know they can be improved?  Hell yes.  Same with the boots.  But again, if you're going to demand 100% screen accuracy on this ONE part, why not on all parts?  Why even have levels?  You have to have 100% accurate stitching, you have to have the belt with the notches and the right code disk, you have to have the gun and holster (sorry to anyone who lives in a country that doesn't allow it), you have to have the right boots, and so on.

I feel like we're being a little ridiculous here.

For all levels on those we know that wore push buttons to be honest in my personal opinion push buttons are easy to obtain now so no real excuse but as i said its my own opinion

I'm going to have to argue against this sir - unless we have someone making the push button rank bars, not everyone has the tools to cut and grind the aluminum strips, and make the push button bars.  I understand where you're coming from, but requiring push buttons on this costume and not on others when we can clearly see push buttons on almost every other costume is suggesting that THIS one is too important to allow the same tolerances we allow on others.
