  1. Maybe I've just missed it, but the color of the tunic and cape appears ivory, not the stark white of the ISB. Maybe that's just being picky, but it's definitely not plain white.

We discussed that early on. It'll say white, because while the tunic and cape appear different hues, nailing the exact color is difficult when every picture is under different lighting.

For those that are interested, there's a member on the RPF forums who is currently doing a build on Krennic's blaster, using an MP40 for a base. You can see his thread here:

    Krennic blaster build

One of the comments said the display blaster looked to be 3D printed - made me look at the closeups, and I agree - it was either CNC'ed or 3D printed - if you look closely, the trigger isn't a working trigger, and there's a pattern in the inlays on the handle that wouldn't be possible if it was made by normal means.

Not strictly CRL related but I've been in touch with Clothears Costumes who also make excellent line and staff officer uniforms, and they're close to taking orders once they've sourced the rest of the materials.

Got a link?  I contacted Saints Customs and they never got back to me, and another one I was recommended said they weren't taking on "new" stuff yet.

I'd go back to CPS, but Cassandra said their white is slightly transparent, and that's not a great thing, especially if it's lined too.

My opinion for what it's worth, those boots may look good while you're riding a horse, but they probably aren't good for Trooping for long periods. Plus, all the ones I've seen look just like what they are: Rubber Boots. If you're going to portray an Officer of the Empire, you need to look your best, and only good, shiny leather boots will do. Are leather riding boots expensive? They can be, but there are good deals out there.

Yeah, but good deals to some of us are still bloody expensive to others.  I know we say this isn't a cheap hobby, but there's a reason we have levels of standards - this shouldn't be a hobby that only well off people can participate in, unless we want that elitist tag back.

Hrrrngh!  The suit I have now is their 2XL.  The suit I actually can fit into now (I lost some weight) would be a Medium.  I keep intending on getting the one I have altered, but at that price, am wondering if I should just buy the medium and be done ...

DUDE!  You went from a 2XL to a medium and you lost "some" weight?  That's bloody amazing!

I would say you should just buy a new one - you alter that 2xl enough to fit you and it probably wouldn't pass CRL anymore.

    Being pedantic again here.

I don't think the overstitching is 1/8th inch apart. I think its 1/4 of an inch apart. Its pretty much exactly the width of most sewing machine feet which is generally 1/4". This is a size I know well from all the million 1/4" seams I've done while quilting. I think if you do 1/8" it will be way too small and close together and won't look right.

I think this is the same stitch length on the collar (which has 7 parallel lines) as it is on the triple stitch detailing. This would make a lot of sense especially since 5/32nds of an inch is not a measurements sewing people deal in. Plus, if you go 1/4" x 7 plus the 1/4" to the edge that makes a 2 inch collar, which is a pretty standard size for collars. My guess is that this is the case.

Appreciate the input.  I was going by what appeared to be sizing based on "known sizes" - like the collar being about 1.5 inches tall (which, somehow, I never actually measured mine to see before I wrote :P)  I will update that section

The triple seam is NOT on the hem. See bottom of hem here where you can see the triple seam on the front of the shoulder line go all the way down and ends at the bottom of the cloak.  https://www.flickr.com/photos/withoutastitchon/27782078744/in/album-72157671245564035/

The hems are different on the front and back portion with the back being a traditional hem and the front looking like a blind hem. Or, more likely, the front portion is turned back to make a full clean edge and the bottom is just sewn back to make the clean edge instead of a blind hem. That would be my guess as it gives the cleaner edge on both front and bottom there.

Also, compare the triple stitch there with the hem on the back and I think my argument for 1/4" stitching is stronger. My guess is that hem is 1".

I put except the bottom hem and front seam.  I know there's not a triple on the bottom.

Last line: Its not a reach-through, they're called "arm slits". People will have much easier time finding info on how to do them if you call them that.

Also, there are, by my count, 5 cloak panels per side plus the yoke (the part that goes over the shoulders). The main back, the side, the triangle at the bottom of the back, and the front piece has 2 sections.

Thanks, literally had no idea what to call it.

I am thankful for all the input, as with most things, I can see it in my head but making it a reality takes someone with more talent than me.

  7. Think Geek is where we all got our Vader umbrellas.  Unfortunately, they've been sold out for quite sometime.  Try ebay.  Being from Denver, half our troops are in "inclement weather".  We're used to it.  Sometimes we'll put snow cleats on our boots.  Unless I-25 or I-70 is shut down where we can't get to a troop, we troop!  LOL  And yeah, sometimes our garrison CS will make the decision to cancel a troop if the weather is super bad (usually when we see every school being closed scrolling at the bottom of our TVs).  Our garrison policy is to troop if you can, and if you don't feel comfortable then let us know your backing out.  It's a hobby after all, you choose the troops you want to do (unless they've been cancelled), whatever the weather.

I love this attitude! We have a similar thing here - only thing we get a little harder on is if you're the only one who signed up to troop an event (and as an officer, I try not to be, because you get a lot of "Who are you?" :P - though I have a feeling when I finish Krennic that'll end real quick), but even then, if you can't, we just need to know far enough ahead to either find someone who can replace, or call and let the client know we can't do it.

  8. They look to me like the same gloves seen in this shot, no lines.

Yeah, that was the shot I originally saw.  Finding them may be a pain - I'm searching but all the short leather gloves I find have the damn lines.

  9. Nice catch!  travel cape?  Another character?  Insane...HURRY LFL AND GIVE US A REAL TRAILER ALREADY.

Yeah, that cape is different too.  I can see the hat being optional (much like the discussion in the Hux CRL), not sure it should be required though.  As for that cape, yeah, doubt we nail that one until at least the movie's out, maybe not until blu ray.

  10. Thanks for starting a write-up on this!  Looking forward to participating as I work on the costume.

Let's put away any notion of mid-thigh boots, please.

It's hard to see where the knee is supposed to be, and even harder to see when he's wearing the boots in the panel.  Are you saying they were knee high?  I think we nailed down what kind of boots they are, but as with all it's hard to tell just HOW tall a boot is when you just see the boot and no reference.

  11. Also, the display one definitely had a slit in the back. You had to go hunting for it, but this is 4 pictures that I put together of the same place on the cape from different angles where you can clearly see the opening of the slit.

    BackOpeningKrennic.jpg

Looking at the fourth panel, that's detail I hadn't caught before.  So the slit goes up to about crotch level, but there's a joint in it what looks like about 3-4 inches lower - most likely to keep it from ripping the seam open by flapping.

    Thank you :)

  12. Hi there,

Not to throw too much of a spanner into the works, BUT...

I don't think its white. At least not pure white. Having seen it in the flesh, I felt it was actually a really really light grey. I know a lot of designers shy away from full on white because it can cause whiteouts on camera, and that combined with what I saw makes me think its not pure white.

I wouldn't say off white/cream as I feel it doesn't have the yellowy/gold undertones that you see in off white. It has very definitely blue undertones to it. I don't think this was just the effect of the lighting, as the same lighting was on his costume as the main characters, which were very definitely in the brown/cream spectrum.

Edited to add: I'm glad you like my photos!

True.  Trying to match the color, unless we get someone at LFL who's willing to give us the dye code, is going to be...  fun, to say the least.  I didn't want to put light gray because it looks more white than gray, and when we put Olive on Line officers we get about 30 different shades.  Grayish-White, maybe?

  13. EDIT: What the. I can't seem to post more images, as I keep getting this: You can upload up to 5.92KB of files (Max. single file size: 5.92KB).

I suggest using Imgur or Flicker, our boards have a limit on how much you can upload.

And thank you for the pics. :)

  14. No way we give Legend Thrawn to the Flagship Eclipse , he stays ours

You might be right though James , it's probably a better thing to write a whole new CRL . We can partly base it on the current Kallus CRL except ask for a white tunic instead obviously . The rest will probably remain fairly similar to the regular Thrawn .

Oops, for some reason I though FE already had Thrawn.  Bad memory apparently.
