No green line officers wore green ponchos in Rogue One because they never made any.  Black security branch officers wore black ponchos.... and Krennic had his.

this may be different with the upcoming Solo movie, but we will have to see.  I want a green one anyway because I will wear it to cons, not official Troops.

It makes sense that they would be there, but to do so would open the door to a lot of things that “make sense” in some people’s minds but not to others.  So for now......

What Robert said. Although it "might make sense" that line officers would have an olive-green poncho, they only ever produced black ponchos for the movie... So... black is the only approved color.

I use the Ben Nye creams I've tried a couple of others as well. One water based and one alcohol based. The water based one I didn't care for because it felt super chalky on my skin. It was the easiest one the get out of the tunic though. The alcohol based paint was fantastic in that it didn't rub off at all, however it was SO hard to get off my skin. It took my wife about 5 hours to apply and then after the troop it took
me another 3 hours to get it all off. It also tinted my skins bit blue the next day. Being in the military that doesn't really work so I spent most of Sunday scrubbing that off. I won't be using that makeup again.

The best one in the middle of the water based and the alcohol based paints I think is the Ben Nye paint. It's not as easy to get off the tunic but if you wear a turtleneck under your tunic it really minimizes the amount that transfers. It can be taken off the tunic with a liberal soaking of oxy clean. I also use copious amounts of scotch guard on my tunic so that helps a lot when it comes to getting the blue out. I would recommend the Ben Nye above all others I have tried.

For the hands, the only thing I have a success with is blue liquid latex body paint. It's a bit tough to match the colors of the face paint but if you can, once it dries all you have to do is rub some baby powder on your painted hands and it won't transfer to your uniform. You have to be sure that it is fully dry before you touch your tunic because if it's not dry the liquid latex is impossible to get off of your tunic.

I would love love to see someone come up with a silicone glove that looks like a hand on the outside. That would solve a lot of problems. It would for sure be something I would buy. Unfortunately, my sculpting skills are non existent so I will not be taking this on.

I hope this helps let me know if you have any more questions!

kevinlorn got a reaction from Dimentex in Proposed Update CRL : Admiral Tarkin
    Hello guys.

I may be one of the few interested by this but yet. I think it worth to discuss a bit on it.
As I went on the main site to check the CRL I was please to discover that an Admiral Tarkin CRL was released.
Well I told myself, maybe I missed the CRL discussion, but the result is really nice and work really well done.

Yet as I looked through the CRL and checked with the one I have for over a year...it appears some details varies and I think that some points could be discussed.
My proposition concerns three points here, no big deal.

The first point is the pipping and wrist bands.
When I did mine I went for dark green version following the only references avaible at time :
    - The Rebel Legion Standards ( I know, I know they are not really known for being precise)
    - The color of the seams and wrist bands from the ROTS uniforms
I shared last year my sources here :
When I went to my professional costum maker we decided that we would go for a dark green color based on the really harsh color from the animated series but also with the obviously green color used in the movies.
My thoughs was that we could add the green color option for the S pipping and the wrists bands to the CRL.

The second point is the cut of the tunic.
As I agree with 95% of what is written my feel is that for level 2 or 3 we should add the presence of a split at the back of the jacket.
We can clearly see that they are present on the uniforms of the animated series.
One of the best exemple is the one that we see at the back of Yularen uniform :
    https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/4/47/Yularenblockade.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20091227043148
I believe that it is more than a detail and worth to be added to the CRL.

Last point is the rank bar.
Again the TV show is a simplifation of the real ones.
Yet I think that we should add the option to have it in real style.
Again the original rank plates used in ROTS are in the sources I shared previously.

We can argue for a realistic version and an animated version.
    What do you think ?

Hi all thank's for the update on this CRL.

So far I almost toally agree with what has been decided.
Again great job here Walker, thank you again for the time taken.
Yet for the boots I would keep it as it is currently, the animated is a simplification of the real stuff.
Fine, but PVC or rubber boots may look really cheap on the outfit.

For the fabric we may perhapse state that a if garbadine is not compulsory a similar heavy fabric is highly recommanded.
With light fabrics and heavy rank bars I fear that it would make many "creases" (sorry I can't find the right word if this one does not make any sens) in the front of the jacket. I have seen it with sooo many uniforms.

As for the shoulder pad, mine are old napoleonic ones.
They are made of thin gold twisted lines and have some velvet on the back.
It may prevent the metal soulder pad here from deterioring the jacket.
Maybe we could add an advise in the CRL concerning this point ?

About the waist seam, I would like to give my opinion, as a professionnal costume designer.
After doing 4 Admiral / Grand Moff ( and 1 Krennic ) costumes for clients (that were all validated in the French Garrison) and planning on two more this year (subjects for validation as well), I can assure you that the waist seam is really important in the construction of the jacket, when one desires to have it fit one's body really well.
If you remove the possibility of this line in the construction, then you expose yourself to receive many validations requests with jackets not fitting the candidates, and especially, with pleats around the waist, under the belt...
I do not say it impossible to make. But it requires a good knowledge about costumes construction, and I know not everyone want nor can afford to pay for a professionnal seamstress to make their costume upon order (and it's perfectly understandable   ), I know many of you order from cosplaysky, and have it modified afterwards.

Another point troubling me, is the gold shoulder pad, or epaulet.
For the moment, you say it has to be metal. But again, not everone has access to that material, nor someone being capable to make them upon order.
I would like to suggest the possibility of leather : I already used leather parts on some costumes : you can choose the thickness of it easily, 0.5mm, 1mm, 2mm... according to what you think is best for the character. You can paint it without any problem with simple acrylic painting. You can either glue it to the jacket (neoprene glue) or make it removable with "hook-and-loop" if you want to clean the jacket without the leather part. The leather, even 2mm thick, remains quite flexible, thus preventing the costumee to be hurt (as he could be with metal parts) and it won't break. And if you don't have easily access to leather around you, just ask your local shoemaker/cobbler if he has spare parts : the shoulder padds are not that big, he could provide you with two pieces like that, for a faire price

Hi guys, great work so far.

I read some of the stuff and I agree that the collar insignias should be either embroied or metal pins.
The book cover show it as metalic style.
However the insignias on the OD and Tan tunics does not seem to be metalic at all to me.

The standard we will set on this will certainly be valid for all the other uniforms that will follow.

Sorry for the double post here but something has caught my attention in your reply , where i'll have to strongly disagree .

First of all , as subtle as it was , i don't think that implying the usual " The UKG takes itself too seriously " i something that should be thrown here on the boards , nor anywhere else . I've read it enough already , and i've never seen someone write " some garrisons really want to push the accuracy bar " without having the UKG in mind . Because if we're going to play that game , there are things to be said about American Garrisons as well ...

I don't live in a huge country , we don't have that many troops are year unlike in the US , etc ... But i don't see why " trooping less " would mean " aiming for less " as well . I have no idea how many times i troop a year , probably less than a dozen times , yet i keep working on my costume to make it as accurate as i can ( L3 ) . For quite a few costumes the steps between L1 and L2 , L2 and L3 aren't huge , and it just takes little effort to achieve higher accuracy .

The " I don't troop a lot / It's a backup costume so i invest minimal efforts into it " is , in my opinion , exactly the kind of thought that leads members of the Legion to troop with costumes that could use some improvement EVEN for L1 , for instance : Officers with floppy breeches and baggy tunics . They don't look good , and there is no pretending otherwise . You don't have to be a " super trooper " to have a good costume . I often feel that people forget what the Legion stands for in matter of quality and accuracy .

    Hey man !

I finally got my things together and managed to make my tarkin costume.
it took some times but I am quite proud of it.
Yet being only 26 I am still working on ways to improve the make-up and will soon explore some options with the latex for the aging.

Here's some pictures of my first trooping as The Grand Moff.
I was in duet with my best friend who made a Daala.

It seems that you are indeed fairly advanced on your uniform.
And it looks really nice so far.

I have just two questions for you.
What did you use for the golden shoulders straps ?
Do you intend to implement the seams on the shoulders ?

And one last question for our detachment leader.
Am I correct if I assume that the back of the uniform has different seams line than the classic one ?
Based on the concept arts and pictures from the show I assumed it would be.

    Anyway, great work Jay !
